Dark gold, rich, complex, umami-laden, excellent. It's amazing how a good muscadet can transform from a relatively boring quaffer into something as complex as this. All you need is 20 years of patience...

Deep brilliant gold color Medium aromas of green apple with extreme minerality and salinity - also creaminess on the nose presumably from extended lees contact - minimal if any oxidation and remains quite fresh Medium palate - creamy lees - all rocks/saline with really no fruit evident on the palate Medium plus acidity with bitterness on the back palate and medium length Beautiful aged Muscadet and really holding up well

From the get-go it’s pretty clear this is in a good place. Beautiful color, nose is full of crushed stone and minerality. Reminds me of a great village level white burg.
Nice weight and acidity on the palate. There’s no fruit here, just tons of minerality on a lightweight frame.

Color was still a light yellow. This is my only bottle of this vintage, so I can't comment on whether it's changed color, but it appeared strikingly youthful; the cork was also in ridiculously good shape with hardly any seepage.
The nose is still fresh, I usually get some nice green apple on the nose in my muscadet, this smelled a little more like baked apple, although it was very subtle. Nice minerality and long finish, but not super complex. It was weighty, almost oily in texture for a muscadet. Very enjoyable.

Geek night with Alex and Tim et al. (The Presidio, SF): (blind - Tim’s 1st wine) A touch of color indicating varietal, botrytis, or aging. Neutral nose with some development. Dry on the palate, with slight bitterness, elevated acid (slightly malic), and a douch of lees. It has a hint of salinity - like Dutch salted liquorice. And it’s quite developed on the palate.
Despite the acid not being so aggressive, this is so light and neutral… maybe Muscadet?

Post-Christmas Get Together (Mostly Loire Whites and Southern Rhone Reds) (San Francisco): Tasted blind after 2006 Briords, and the best I could do was say Grand Cru white Burgundy or Loire Chenin Blanc-that's how rich and textured this was. Amazing volume and complexity for Muscadet with excellent acidity retained. A wine that makes you sit up and take notice.

The best bottle so far of this...medium gold in color, just starting to show oxidation, creamy body, good line of acidity knitting everything together, plays well with seafood...this is why you buy and age muscadet!

Medium-light gold in color, not giving much on the nose, decent acidity on the front and back end which drops out in between and creates a somewhat soft middle. Very subtle lemon and cream flavors and a little bruised apple oxidation on the long and beautiful finish. Not spectacular but excellent for the price and very enjoyable with seafood.

Nose was a little reserved although had some hints of lemon and salty minerality; This fleshes out some on the mid-palate and developers a slightly creamier texture, but still with lots of saline flavors underneath it all; Still tasted very young for a 15+ year old Muscadet

Geeky Syrah Night at Browntrout (Chicago, IL): There was a slight bit of banana on the nose at first. I found that a bit offputting. But that aired out and we were all good. The palate on this bottle was very light from the acidity and mineral qualities, but the rich texture gives this a lot of weight at the same time. Slightly oily texture and a bit sweet, this had a good balance of everything.

Still incredibly fresh and far less advanced than a bottle of the 2000 Louvetrie Le Fief du Breil that I drunk in February. Pineapple-y in taste and smell, with a tremendous quinine finish, the wine's minerality hovering in the background rather than jumping out at you. A nice roundness to the texture.

Dark yellow, a bit of candy on the nose with white peaches and a hint of tropical fruits. Rich in palate with a good dose of acidity, but not overly acidic. No oxidation. Very youthful still after 15 years…. extremely well balanced. A big surprise for many who had never had a Muscadet with this much age…..some confused it for a Marsanne (blind-tasting).

Feels quite youthful for its age - crisp, correct. Not a lot of minerality showing, nor does it have some of the almost riesling-like funky qualities on the nose that I have gotten from some 20+ year old muscadets. Ready to drink but I may hold my remaining bottles to see what they show in the long term.

At Pearl & Ash, NYC. Sharp and full aromatics of crushed rock, lemon-lime and stone fruit. Palate is crisp with loads of energy, tension and verve. There is no signs of oxidation or slowing down. Flavors echo the nose. Long, mineral-filled finish. Terrific pairing with sashimi styled hamachi and scallops. My first Muscadet with this kind of age. I will start laying these down without hesitation.

Light delicate nose, smells like the beach with a little backdrop of lemon. Really rounded with a lovely balance of pithy citrus fruit and a lingering saline character. I don't typically score wines, but I would note that the scores for this seem low for the relative quality of what is in the bottle. This is a wine of depth and harmony. It is a silky wine with a rounded minerality that is a perfect complement to simple shellfish. It would be a grave mistake to serve it too cold.

A night of Loire wines (Browntrout, Chicago IL): Nose: This was wound a bit tight at first, but then opened up into fragrant tones of crushed rocks, white fruits, along with notes of wax and smoke.
Taste: Medium/light bodied with crisp medium+ acidity. The acidity is still quite noticeable with well balanced tones of crushed rocks, white fruits, wax, and some honeydew.
Overall: This was very interesting. Before this I never had a muscadet with age on it. This held up very well and was very enjoyable.

Yellow plum to peach to green currant nose with a touch of florality, wool, flint, creamy vanilla and dairy touch. Dry and fascinatingly neutral and aromatic at the same time. Pretty crisp and leesy with some woolly and almondy roundness as well as salt liquorice -like breadth. Linear and complex. Long aftertaste. Muscadet can age and this obviously had plenty of years left. Very good! Lovely style.

Delicious with a seafood stew. Pale yellow color, evolved nose for muscadet, medium acidity, nice mix of fruit and saline flavors. Not the brightest or most nervy muscadet, but in a very good spot to drink with the right foods.

I'm a novice with aged Muscadet (but not aged whites generally) and this was extremely fresh and lively. Nice aromatics, very elegant and crisp. Amazing value even though I paid 2012 prices. Definitely convinces me that cellaring some is worthwhile even if this is not necessarily profound, at least at this stage.

Pretty much the same showing as my previous tasting note from 2 years ago: fragrant nose, nice minerality and acidity on the palate but everything is a bit more rounded out compared to a young muscadet. A nice wine, but nothing profound, at least at this stage in its life. Paired quite well with a goat cheese and mixed nuts.

Virginia's Finest...? (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): At this point in the tasting, I really need a palate cleanser, and nothing cleanses the palate like a muscadet from Luneau-Papin. Aromas of lemon zest, peanut brittle, hints of sherry. The palate is plump with apricot and lemon fruit, but the minerals and acid are still there for balance. Sweet apricot and butter linger on the finish.

Grand Sichuan jeeb with Oswaldo (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): Pleasant though not compelling; fresh citrus and pear fruit over a saline mineral base with barely any signs of development. No rush here (and there's a surprising amount of sulfur that lingered in the aromatics for a while).

This was quite lovely. Straw color not suggesting an aged wine. Nose of saline, lemon wax, cream cheese, touch of dried flowers. Rather weightier on the palate than expected. Deep lemony both chalky and creamy, with rounded off acidity. A bit of minerality though more of a sea washed rock. A tinge of nuttiness developing. I had with boiled shrimp first night, and second with crabcakes and tomato caprese salad which really paired well. Would also be nice with mussels more so than oysters.

Leo's Blind Tasting Group - Jan '12 edition (Montclair, NJ): Stunned to see the vintage, as this tasted like something bottled just recently with incredibly fresh, vibrant citrus fruits, a vivid stoniness and an overlay of sulfury funk. Very nice now, though not showing the same depth or finesse as the older Muscadets in the flight.

Another excellent example of Parker’s limitations. Muscadet “should be consumed in the first 1 to three years from vintage.” This is all about stoney, limestone minerality with limon, apricot and other white fruits. It still cuts a clean line with its acidity. Neither tired nor tiresome. Take that, ARPY! 12% alc. With shrimp and grits. Recommended.

Rich golden straw, and almost slightly grassy colour. Chilled overnight, the nose and palate were quite austere with a chalky texture similar to an aged Chablis. After about after an hour and being slightly warmer, a nose of curried spice, creamy but also steely. The palate does seem to lack the wave of acidity that is so prevalent in younger Muscadets, but in its stead, there is a complex stony, fatty, creamy richness as well as a vibracity that makes me think it will age for many years to come. ****

Fairly muted nose at first, opened up to a nice lemon / slate experience, almost like an older dry riesling.
Still very alive and fresh with nice acidity, although it does not have the zip of a younger vintage - and I liked this a lot. Decent weight and a wonderful mouth-coating finish.
Holding up wonderfully at 11 years of age - I'm very glad I have three more bottles.

I was a little underwhelmed by this. Age has softened the acid a bit I think, but this has reduced the vibrancy/energy of the wine on the palate as well. Typical lemony citrus fruits, with some peachy notes, and a little nuttiness developing from the age. Unusually rich for muscadet, and less mineral/rocky than others I've had. Surprisingly not great with oysters, but was really nice with some pan-fried cod, which gave the wine more zing. I will try out some more aged examples, but so far I prefer the younger versions of muscadet.

This is nice. Medium straw gold in color, beautiful and fragrant nose. Still retains that core of piercing acidity that screams muscadet but the bottle age seems to have rounded out all of the edges and added some viscosity... it adds a nice smooth note to the wine that perhaps makes this a little more flexible with food than a younger muscadet. Really long finish that lingers in the mouth. Paired it with green tomatillo tialpia.. went together quite nicely. A good wine that makes a case for cellaring a few bottles of the upper end muscadets every year.

Fabulous bottle, in a great place right now. Still quite young nose of salinity, tonic, nori, and citrus, with a certain ripe honeyed note in the mouth. Its fresh but with some mature flavors also. The nose is very precise, but things round and drift a bit in the mouth. Probably room for further development, but not sure it could get much better than tonight.

Golden yellow color, seemingly with a drop of orange/brown. Early nose is sweet and rubbery, showing notes of Golden Delicious apple, lemon-lime zest, and wildflowers. Late nose is bright and volatile with a wet slate component. Palate has good viscosity, almost oily in mouthfeel, which yields a sort of lemon oil quality, followed by a refreshing blast of acidity.

A bit upgraded from 97 I felt. Missed some depth to be excellent, but very good Muscadet nonetheless.

Straw yellow with light amber reflections. Medium intensity nose with notes of mushrooms and peaches. Soft attack, medium acidity, medium-low duration and intensity aftertaste.

A very lithe wine with an airy feel to it. The nose and palate had some interesting grassy tones, and light florals. Some thought this was a bit tired, but I enjoyed it's airy character...and, as always, would love to have this with shellfish.

I will try out some more aged examples, but so far I prefer the younger versions of muscadet.

citrus and stones on the nose with a crisp palate of stony minerality and sea salt. I am starting to get what they mean by toastiness... Its a certain richness on the finish that is present in this wine. Good wine.

pale yellow. saline, lime, cool cucumber, and a bit of wax on the nose. big time wax on the palate, with really nice mineral notes and good acidity. nice weight. wish there was a bit more citrus on the palate, but that is the only complaint. it's not over the hill. really impressed by the depth and longevity of this wine. mid-long finish. the best $25 i've spent on a wine in some time.

This bottle did not show as well as one a few months ago, perhaps less mature, with less of a hint of richness or oily texture. Still drinks reasonably well.

"The Good Stuff" 2011 -- A double blind tasting (La Fonda del Sol, NYC): Mineral, acid but somewhat round. Long finish with yeast and some oil. Very bright, nicely complex. Really nice, soft for a Muscadet. Drinking very well with no signs of overaging. This wine is a steal.

Drinking very well. Perhaps a bit more full-bodied and chablis-like than a bottle of the 95 drunk last year. It still showed ample acidity. Minerals and flowers on the nose. mediumish finish.

Good combination of freshness with developing minerality that made it a good aperitif and accompaniment to the cheese and spanish meats. Crisp, some rounding in the middle with a reasonably long finish. Consistent over two bottles. Top ***
