No signs of premox. Nice colour. I was expecting a lot but overall I was very disappointed. Oak and gunflint dominate. Little fruit left. Powerful acidity but no elegance or softness to the mouthfeel. Not my style of Puligny at all. I like his Volnays a lot more.

Good, but I honestly expected more from this esteemed bottling. This came off a little sedate and muted, and lacking the concentration and excitement that I have come to expect. It's mildly waxy, with decent richness and acidity, but in general lacks a more expressive flavour profile. This was better the second day, but not by that much.

Corn/wheat flour tones to the bouquet. A richer, fuller and more classic Mouchère palate with a very faint botrytis influence. A Puligny Grand Cru equivalent on this showing. A great wine 19.5
Tasted blind: Looks like I had this six years ago and wasn’t crazy about the style then (I’m no fan of this producer’s oak, acid, strict and austere type WB). Much like Bonneau du Martray, they’re very slow to evolve, integrate the ample oak (which literally gags me when it hasn’t yet done so) and gain complexity. I score it fairly at 93 for what it is; would I buy it? No thanks.

Grand Cru authority and concentration with very evident oak signature still. Plenty of flinty/smoked minerals, strong "pain grille" scents with mostly lemon custard-type fruits. There is plenty of Puligny minerality coming through, past the oak on the nose, alone. Long, ripe, but with good energy and freshness through the finish. Cetainly nothing shy about this but this should hold and may even blossom into more, if the oak harmonizes! Loved it.

Light-medium yellow in color. Initially shy on the nose which over time reveals underripe yellow pit fruits, yellow citrus, lifted herbs, wet stones and nuts. A very linear and focused palate reveals a beam of earthy, savory orchard pit fruits, citrus oils, good acidity and a long stone/mineral laced finish.

Consistent with prior notes. Flinty mineral character dominates, with citrus notes. Linear in character, almost (but not quite) chiseled, versus much rounder, full bodied versions of Mouchere I’ve experienced in older vintages. The citrus and flint made this a surprisingly good pairing with oysters tonight, in addition to vichyssoise soup, garlic clams and seafood gnocchi.

Opens soft, as Clos de la Mouchere often does, almonds, white fruits on the nose. Then it gathers itself and really powers on. Very firm, plenty of acid, almost gets there on balance, but is just a touch out of kilter, with a hard (and I would almost say green) streak running through it. I am a big Boillot fan, and this probably just needs more time. If it comes together it will be amazing, 97-98 points here. I am not sure whether its the oak treatment or picked just a touch too early (which can often happen in warmer years), but the hard streak is a question mark. I’d take the gamble though.

Popped and tested for pre-mox and let the wine breath for several hours before enjoying a glass. One taster notes residual oak which is the only nit on this fine. Fabulous length and density with notes of citrus fruit and mineral. I feel lucky to get through 3 bottles of this wine without pre-mox but wish I was comfortable letting it age another 10 years.

Golden hues on a light color, clear. Very intense, enticing nose with an almost piercing aromatic of candied cider, pear, butter, with balsamic and floral notes. Powerful but balanced and nicely poised, with mineral notes mixed with citrus. Very lively on the finish, first dominated by citrus fruit and later more on white, elegant fruit.

Palest straw. Fresh and elegant nose with a touch of oatmeal and a very white floral and crystalline mineral nose. Similar on the attack — just a hint of richness starting to show at the edges, but really this is all about energy and precision with a very taut and sharp line from attack to long finish. Very grippy and finely mineral texture. A squeeze of lime on the finish. First bottle of three, and if representative it’s one to revisit every three to five years. This holds very well overnight and if anything is actually better on the second day. This oozes effortless class. ****1/2

Whoa, this bottle was singing tonight. Beautiful nose. At first a bit wound up with mouth watering, almost searing acidity followed by that subtle hint of plump, round fruit that white burgundy does so well. After an hour or so the acidity came into balance and the package was sublime with a looong finish. The dinner party was grabbing for the second half of the bottle. Excellent.

This is a wine of potential but will it achieve it ? This bottle had a very pale green gold colour and a classic nose of white pear, white nectarine, apple and lemons with touches of honey and white flowers. The palate was classic with lovely line and minerality and a great finish. My quibble is whether its loveable or whether that will come later after what now seems a spiky adolescence. Ticks the boxes without evoking that extra sense of something wonderful !

Dinner with Henri Boillot (Chicago, IL): I liked the 2009 Mouchere a little more than this one, which I found to be a tinnier, higher-toned, and slightly screechier version of the 2009. I think that without that amount of opulent fruit on the palate, the acidity and minerality seem to stand out more. I also felt that this wine seemed to be a little shut down, which might be responsible for the lack of fruit that I found here. On the other hand, I wouldn't be racing to trade in my 2010s for 2009s; this is still an outstanding wine, and very much true to what Puligny is.
very very nice, with classic PM / WB acidity, citrus and body... nice balance of acid / fruit -- even a touch of richness to round it out... well done for sure... the 2014 was much more acidic (maybe too early for that bottling) and therefore not as popular among the drinkers

This was the first bottle of these that I truly liked. On first opening it seemed to be spectacular, approaching the Grand Cru status that some of the critics claim this vineyard can display. Even though the bottle was way too cold it was vibrant and classic with white flowers and hazlenut overtones. But after being opened and breathing it seemed to lose some of its bouquet. Finally after about 3 1/2 hours, now at room temperature, it became more perfumed and nuanced. Conclusion: not a great wine-yet. Will it get there someday? It's still showing some SO2 and wood so I'm going to wait another 2-3 yrs with my last bottles. 92 on spec. I am becoming more and more concerned about WBs and more than dubious about the "experts" opinions.
10/2 11:55 EDT I'll amend that to this extent: I just drank a final half-glass right now. Finally, I get a sense of a mature WB with sweet honeyed fruit. So maybe we are drinking these all too soon. But that still leaves the issue of PreMox if these very concentrated and extracted wines need way more time than they used to. We'll see.
Charred oak, matchstick, lemon-lime, floral, stoney. Vibrant palate, pure white fruit with great length. Really showed its long term potential after an hour in the glass. Excellent bottle.

Still plenty of sulphur on the nose but the wine was a bit all arms and legs. There were some nutty, almond butter notes along with ripe orchard fruits and some dried apricots. It was a little more advanced than I'd like and there's plenty of dry extract to the finish.

From a .375. Unless there is significant bottle variation this goes down as a mild disappointment. This is my fourth try and frankly I haven't had a really good bottle of this yet. The 2009 and especially the 2011 are far superior at least right now. This has too much sulphur, too much acidity, and too much tropical fruit flavors. But it's not a bad bottle of wine-just NOWHERE close to the scores it received from the critics, or it's price point. So while I'm giving it an 89 it really gets an 86 on a QPR basis. I'm also getting a little nervous about 2010 WBs-but maybe they're just too young. Anyway the 2010 Chassagne 1ers have been superior IMHO to the Puligny 1ers which shouldn't be the case normally.

Ripe and powerful, the nose is moderately dominated by oak. The palate is intense and lightly mineral, but overall it is rather solid and lacks finesse, and over two nights it did not evolve. Leave it a few years, but I am not confident of complex development.

Pale green gold. Beautiful nose of white pear, white peach and apple. Touches of lemon and honey. Intense palate with Grand Cru drive and cut. An intense limestone grip on the finish completes a classic Puligny profile albeit very young and primary. Plenty of miles to go - even more if under Stelvin !

From a half bottle, why not. Opens with a fair dose of sulfur on the nose, cleans up with air but does need some time. Mike Grammer Comes to Town - KS version (Ripple Restaurant in DC): This is not unlike drinking the 08 Dauvissat Clos. I can imagine this would have showed a lot better if decanted for a couple of hours over a leisurely dinner. A tight nose revealing only a hint of fruit, lemon curd, pear, smoke, sesame/toast, white flowers, saline and mineral. Tightly coiled, bright acidity, mineral and a bit too tense finish. It opened up a bit with air, displaying a bit more generous fruits. I need to open one at home and drink over two nights. You must decant!

Opens up with lots of reduction and matchstick. A good shake and a decant helps a bit and the reduction recedes somewhat. What's left? Spicy oak! Not terribly exciting right now. It seems very disjointed and out of balance. Don't know how this will turn out right now. Hopeful a long nap can help. But I'm afraid the sulphur is too much. Time will tell.

Opens up with a lot of reduction. I tried with a good shake and after 15 minutes the matchstick reduction recedes slowly and white flowers and pears starts to come forward. It seems very subdued at this point compared to a bottle 6 months ago. It slowly gets better during the evening. And it turns out the best glasses are the day after. So for now it seems closed up and should probably be lefter for 1-2 years. Very promising and very good though.

90 (+?) pts

Simply outstanding 1er Cru wine. It has a faint whiff of struck match to the aroma. The fruit profile is the most wonderfully crisp, pure white peach and there's almost an audible crunch as you bite into the wine (there's not really, I'm just tossing on with some flowery prose). Speaking of flowers they are here as well with the scent of spring blossom. It is direct, dense and rich in the mouth but by no means heavy. It finishes with great authority and cut and possesses fabulous length of mineral infused flavour.

Fabulous length and density with notes of citrus fruit and mineral. I feel lucky to get through 3 bottles of this wine without pre-mox but wish I was comfortable letting it age another 10 years.

Voll im Trinkfenster. Frisch. 93-94P

Excellent.

Nice and typical Puligny nose of lime and smoke - still quite primary. Absolutely no sign of preoxidation
Mineral with good acidity and length , but a bit one-dimensional now as the wine still is somewhat young and primary
Pleasant now, will be better in a couple of years

I'll amend that to this extent: I just drank a final half-glass right now. Finally, I get a sense of a mature WB with sweet honeyed fruit. So maybe we are drinking these all too soon. But that still leaves the issue of PreMox if these very concentrated and extracted wines need way more time than they used to. We'll see.
