At or just past peak but still delicious !! I agree with my tasting note of 10 months ago !! Perfect cork after over a decade in the bottle, easily removed. Dark ruby colored with little to no oxidation and medium clarity. Consumed over two days. Pommard (non-heat treated); Pommard 5 (heat treated) Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777 Field selection, and Joseph Swan Vineyard clone Pinot Noir from Klopp Ranch along the eastern edge of Laguna Ridge in the Russian River Valley AVA. This was the last bottle of the vintage in my cellar. Just starting to wane, just barely past peak.

In a great spot, this wine is tasting extremely good right now !! The cork was nearly perfect after a decade in the bottle. This is a balanced Pinot Noir that I consumed over two days. Deep ruby color with no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of pomegranate and carmel, flavors of sweet cranberry, cherry, rhubarb, and forest floor with a pleasant medium to long finish. Popped and poured, this wine really benefited from gentle oxygen since it was much more soft & integrated on day two. Great fruit with firm acidity made into a very balanced Pinot Noir from the Klopp Ranch in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County. This Pinot Noir is an age worthy wine and has many more years of life left. I still have one more bottle of this vintage remaining; I may open it in the next few months or so to verify my rating.

Medium-full body. Still bursting with black cherry. Hint of mushroom on the nose but the fruit dominates the palate. Medium tannins. Bricking a little on the edges but this can go longer. Drink now-2025.

Personally purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this wine was contributed to a single-blind tasting. The tasting coordinator brown-bagged the bottle and included it in a Pinot Noir lineup that included no geographic restrictions. My taste was accordingly blinded. Still a youthful deep ruby in color, it retains an intoxicating aromatic profile of black raspberries, dried cranberries, coriander, sandalwood, smoke and lavender. For a Pinot, this is full-bodied and retains beautiful freshness. The tannins are silky-textured and the alcohol is nicely integrated (despite being listed as 14.4%). With flavors mirroring the nose, excellent mid-palate density and a lengthy finish, this continues to show beautifully and was the unanimous favorite of the flight. Those holding well-cellared bottles can enjoy this now or any time over the next 5-6 years. Drink now-2025.
My last bottle. It was tart on first opening but quickly smoothed out. Flavors were predominantly cola and cherry & were muted, not nearly as pleasant as last year.

Decanted just over an hour. Very complex and delicious with balanced acidity and smooth mouthfeel. Some cola, dark berry and just a bit of mineral (no smoke). At the end of the evening (~4 hrs after opening) the wine had become heavy and had lost most of its flavor. Peak flavor was between 1/2 to 2 1/2 hrs. Wine held up very well to lemon. Served w a herb topped salmon (lemon balm/sage/chive and lemon)

Foresty spices, redcurrant, and strawberry jam aromas, which all show up as the flavors in the mouth. The finish is very heady, baking spices and dried herbs with persistent black fruit notes. Really really good.

Popped and poured. Dark red; black fruits on the nose; a touch of spice/stemminess; a bit shy on the nose. Thick and rich on the palate; quite intense with fruit good balance, just this side of sweet; long finish. Classic RRV velvety palate feel. This has none of the rough qualities I have previously seen in ME's Pinots; very nice wine which is drinking well but can go another 5 years.

Wish I had saved this one, but it fantastic now and only getting better. Cherry, currents, really great wine. My wife and I went to a Merry edwards wine dinner in 2011 in Palm Desert, Merry was there and I loved the wines. Bought this shortly after and have been holding it. Bought some 2010 and 2011 that I will definately let sit in the cellar, if I can forget they are there.

PnP'd at a restaurant. As others have noted, big for a pinot - black cherry, dark fruits, some floral notes on the nose; sour cherry, blue/black fruit, dusty spice on the palate. Long, round finish. Favorite of the evening at our table.

In 2001, I spent a morning in the Meredith Vineyard with Ken Coopersmith, Merry's husband. Merry showed up later, carting buckets of grapes for sampling from various parts of the vineyard. At that point in time, Ken opened a '99 Klopp and it was spectacular. Both Ken and Merry stressed the importance of aging these Klopp bottlings. I recently opened my last bottle of '99, which was nothing short of ethereal. Now fast-forward the vintage by ten years. It is like looking at my son...youthful, but with the same genetics. The wine is deep ruby and has a beautiful nose of black raspberries, dried cranberries, coriander, smoke and lavender. This is a full-bodied and fresh Pinot, with medium fine-grained tannins and well-integrated alcohol (despite being listed as 14.4%). The flavors mirror the nose and the finish seems to last forever. Speaking from experience, this wine will never be anything short of excellent, but if it is well-cellared over the next decade, look for something "ethereal." Merry's wines (especially the Klopp bottlings) are so under-appreciated in their youth. Unfortunately, few tasters have the patience or the cellar to appreciate them at their apex. Drink now-2023.

First had this wine at the vineyard in Sonoma Co, first bottle from the batch I purchased at the vineyard.
Medium color. Nose has floral notes, black cherry. Palate has dark fruits, rhubarb, floral notes, lavender on the back palate. May put on some weight with age. Good wine, not as complex as the Meredith.
Would benefit from a decant, definitely improved over about 30 minutes

Decent but not amazing for the price tag. Good structure in the front and a over powering black pepper finish. Decanted and over 2 hours never really opened.
Disappointing for the price. Needed over an hour (but that's after removing from a 55 degree cellar) to open up. Good with roast salmon and hit a full, round, balanced flavor profile two hours into glass. Then around end of evening it seemed a little bitter or acidic. Overall good, but for this price I expect a lot more. I'll give my second bottle at least another two years.

Honeymoon Wine Tasting; 6/25/2012-7/3/2012 (California - Napa & Sonoma Counties): Tasted at Winery. Ruby red in color with strong aromas of dark, dried fruits, oak, and floral notes. The smooth flavors also include bright fruit and berry flavors with mild tannins. The finish is very smooth and long -- sticks to the tongue. Good now, and should improve in 1-2 yrs.

Sonoma Wine Tasting & San Francisco - March 2012; 3/22/2012-3/27/2012: Another great big pinot from Merry Edwards. The nose on this shows that classic Russian River black cherry, but also a unique mix of cranberry and rhubarb. The palate is both silky and dense at the same time. Pure, lush currant and black cherry fruit flavors, along with peanut shell and cocoa powder. The finish is soft, showing baking spice and brambles. This was a big hit with the tasting group at the winery.

A bit lighter color then the Meredith. Nose showed a myriad of complexities of spicebox, floral notes, and medium toned forward fruit. Palate was concordant with dark fruited- fruit forward flavors. The weight stayed consistent through the finish. Resembles a cooler weather effort. Nice wine.
