this is amazing ... such a full mouthful. acid, fruit and something more. probably one of the most interesting non-chard white wines that i have tasted in many moons. drink w/ food. it's acid is pretty high so food is necessary. truly amazing - approach w/ an open mind and you will not be disappointed.
Wow!! This was exceptional tonight with rich, penetrating flavors of tropical and stone fruit, some melon, some anise, some subtle petrol notes, firm minerality, abit of lemon curd and perhaps some honey undertones befor the long finish. Quite nice.
This was stunning tonight. Rich, unctous, stone and tropical fruits with some melon lurking in the backround. There's firm minerality, some nutmeg and a brisk, acidic core. For me this was in a really good place tonight and was drinking really well with an hour or so of air.
Delicious! A great nose of honeyed pear, peach, marzipan, fresh cut hay, lily. The palate is unctuous and rich with stone fruit, honey, ginger, and floral hints. The finish is rich and almost coats your tongue with flavors of stone fruit and and marzipan. Quite tasty. Definitely a rich and unctuous wine, but fresh enough to be quite delicious.
PHMG WAG: Tour de France 2014 (Chateau Lyon): Light gold color, this wine has a nice viscous mouthfeel compared to some of the previous wines in this tasting. Stone fruit, tropicals, floral, almond, and minerals persist nicely. Would love to try this again in 2-3 yrs.
Subtle and different flavors and textures of vanilla, baking spice, and peach are enveloped by Bartlett pear's sweet mellow flavor; by the sweetness of Golden Delicious apple and by the richness and complexity of Cox apple- finish is complex with rounded and smooth mouth feel. The 2010 is the best vintage of Vieux Télégraphe blanc and for all white Rhone. Paired with many courses at 1826 Restaurant in South Beach, along with 2007 Opus.
Color: light golden yellow Smell: tropical fruits, white pepper, pear, with an underpinning of mineral & floral notes Taste: pear, pineapple, kiwi, quince, and other exotic fruits Overall: This is a wine of brilliance, power, and enormous potential framed by grace and restraint. Medium body, high acidity, medium+ fruit, with impeccable balance & structure. Outstanding!!!!
popped and poured. needed 10 minutes to start to open and became more expressive every minute it warmed up. this is delicious and complex. made the mistake of pouring this after a huge Dumol chard. as it opened it gained more floral notes, great balance of acidity, minerality. has nice long finish and good weight in the mouth. this is a great bottle of wine - just need to start on this and move to a CA chard so its sets the palate accordingly.
Golden yellow with medium density; white flower, slight honey, spice, apple, pear, Motts apple sauce; high toned, good acid, fuller bodied, fresh, spice on the finish, very good, so drinkable; need to get more of this.
In Vino Veritas Session 1 (MIT): Perhaps a little oxidized - not its best showing I feel. However, pretty excellent all the same - warm, earth, a touch smoky, a lovely acid backbone. Quite beautiful, if very different from the Marsanne-dominated Northern Rhones I love so much. My understanding is that this blend is predominantly Clairette and Grenache Blanc with some Bourboulenc and Roussanne. 13.5%, $75.
Southern Rhone Whites; 1/11/2013-1/12/2013: Opened but not decanted for about 1 1/2 hours. Very pretty nose of stone fruit, pineapple, perhaps some damp nori and an underlying hint of hazelnut. On the palate this is bursting with deep, rich flavors of stone and tropical fruits. Subtle hazelnut notes make an appearance along with some salinity, firm minerality and nice acidity that leads into a long, satisfying finish. Today this wine is rich and unctuous, but there's enough acidity to keep it from tasting flabby. All-in-all, quite outstanding and drinking wonderfully today.
