Long neglected in my cellar, this inexpensive cabernet was surprisingly good. Soft and round with a bit of off-note in the bouquet but very solid vinous flavour and good body.

This should have been consumed years ago, but oh well, interesting experiment. Smells like fig cookies and coffee. Soft tannins, some mild volatile acidity, but not too bad. Plum cake and black cherry jam with coffee. Tired a muted a bit, but not terrible.

At this stage of its decline (this is a bottom-end '09, after all), it can't decide if it's Cherry Coke or pipe tobacco. Extremely disjointed, with very little to offer anymore. For L this was just short of a sink pour; for me it was a novelty given the memories we made with early vintages from this winery during our newspaper days.

I had tried this wine 18 months ago and liked it a lot more at that time. The nose is fine, but I found the latest bottle too syrupy, almost like cough medicine. It may be that the bottle is in decline. Still enjoyable with Italian seafood on Xmas Eve, just not as good as last time.

Pleasant wine, but its lower rating comes from having a nice buildup in nose and initial taste, but it is bland in the middle and end. I think it is at its peak or on its way down for aging; so drink up.

Definitely losing steam, and time to drink up. But still provides nice memories of L's and my poor-as-churchmice days as reporters when this wine was our splurge as a second or third label for Caymus. Orange red color with still-nice legs in the glass. Port-like in bouquet and palate with little fruit left. Heat in the finish, even when served from the cellar, where it has been stored since release.

This Cab Sauv is a very good value purchase. It still has a bit of fruit and the tannin has softened. Deep purple color. The 2009 vintage probably needs to be consumed in 2014, although I will keep one a few more years to see if it still improves.

Losing some steam as it sits in the cellar, so probably best to start drinking up. Still has good color and legs and a certain creaminess in the mouth. Floral and cedar notes on the palate. Finishes abruptly, likely due to its age. This wasn't built for the long haul. But still a tasty Cab that provided pleasure along the way.

Still a bit young and good for 4-5. Big nose of Blackfruit that is also evident on the pallet. Interesting, not overly complex, but big and smooth. Tannins started to soften after an hour. Decanting would have helped, but mine was already holding a 91 Beringer that was taking its time. This Cab is hard to beat for the money. If you can find more, buy them.

I give this bottle 92 because of value to taste. It's probably one of the best $9 bottles I've had. Great balanced wine. Wonderful mellow acidity and it doesn't dry out your mouth. Medium to light body. Finish is not too short, but no long either. Definitely not a complex wine. This is your perfect everyday wine.

- Brick color with medium forming legs and aromas of blackberry, raspberry and cherry. It's balanced and has flavours of cherry, raisin, prune and strawberry jam with a full body. Polished texture with a long finish - Loved this, even more so when price is considered. Great fruit, balance, smooth tannin and a lasting finish in a fairly young cab. This is a great everyday cab.

If you let it open for a while it has a most pleasant finish. Not what one would call a full bodied wine - like a cab franc - but none the less very sufficient. Initial taste is of berries - not sure whether it's blackberry or raspberry, but in either case that's good. If you let it stand for 1/2 hr or so before drinking no tannins. I just baked some bread and with this wine it was quite a decant afternoon – definitely, at least an 88! The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. Would recommend to a friend.

A basic pour. Generic. Without place. Unassuming. Uninspiring. Neither appealing nor unappealing. If attending someone else’s picnic and had this handed to me, that would be fine. Not a wine I would serve. But I did... to myself. 13% alc. With seared bison steaks. Recommended with reservations.

Perhaps bottle variation in play here. This tasted quite different than the last bottle I tried which had an interesting herbal streak. This bottle was more typical of cheap, overoaked domestic Cab. Lots of vanilla oak and kind of cheap tasting. Really boring bottle of wine.

I remember this wine fondly when it was the second-label for Caymus back in the 70s and 80s. The it dropped out of sight. Apparently the label was acquired by the Hope family in Paso Robles. It's not quite what it used to be, but it makes a very good "house wine" at under $10. Medium body. Surprising amount of tanin for a simple wine.

A toast to Jim Sweeney and his girlfriend Lisa, with whom we enjoyed many a bottle of this wine 30-some years ago when it was still the second label for Caymus . . . In a word, this is lovely. No, the angels didn't sing as we sipped, and one could argue that it's a bit one-dimensional with the oak occasionally stealing the spotlight from the fruit. But as a Paso Robles Cab. (a hit-or-miss region for Cabernet), this has nice blackberry and cherry notes, and a Bordeaux village-like quality that matched well with food. At $8 from Costco an excellent value, esp. for a Cali-Cab of any type.

Loire Cab Franc-like nose showing a pronounced vegetal, stemmy note. On the palate, this wine was unusual in that the vegatal note from the nose was present, but the wine still drank like a fruit-forward new world red. Acidity was abundant, though not overpowering. I kind of liked the green flavor.

Light and slightly dull garnet red. Black fruits and noticeable graphite on the nose. A mixture of red and black fruits on the front palate, strawberry the most noticeable, with graphite almost immediately asserting its strength and taking over well into the finish, which it dominates along with ripe blackberries. Light- bodied, which surprises me a bit considering the flavor profile. Nice gripping tannins and distant vanilla notes.

Terroirist Blogger Tasting #3: SRP: $14. Ripe red fruit, blueberries, and seductive herbaceousness – leading to guesses of a cool-climate (Carneros?) Bordeaux blend. Underneath the fruit, some wild mountain herbs and lavender. On the palate, it’s a bit simpler but wonderfully approachable, with a seductive note of seawater. Unfortunately, it finishes bitter with some strong green notes.

(a hit-or-miss region for Cabernet), this has nice blackberry and cherry notes, and a Bordeaux village-like quality that matched well with food. At $8 from Costco an excellent value, esp. for a Cali-Cab of any type.

Nice dark color with an inviting nose. Easy in the mouth with even flavors and very light tannins. Short finish. Somewhat nondescript but enjoyable.

- Garnet color and aromas of oak, soy sauce and raisin. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of dusty, oak, black pepper, soy sauce and raisin with a medium/full body. Fleshy texture with a medium finish.

I had expected to like this after seeing write ups. But, there is no nose and the taste is so acidic that it was truly unpleasant.

Meh. Nothing special. Acidic at first but mellows out. Won't offend anyone but no one will go out of thier way to buy even at $11-15. Decent starter cab.

Was expecting more from this can after seeing it ballyhooed about online lately. But aroma and first taste are tartly acidic, finish was more mellow. Maybe it needs a little breathing.

Drank at Williams Landing. Not much on the nose and very fruity and one dimensional on the pallet with some tart acidity. Very cheap cab, dont waste your money - there are better options at a price point just above this.
