Winter Birds and Waterfowl Wine Event (Judith's House, WI): Dark red color. followed a 2oz pour over 90 minutes. Dark red fruits, anise, spices. The palate is big, some heat, black cherry, full bodied. Pinot? Pinot noir? Not my style.

A beautiful wine, at the very top tier of California Pinots. An elegant and somewhat restrained approach to a nonetheless bright and exuberant vineyard. It's the best Cerise I've ever tasted and really is world class. Still has 5-7 years to soften ahead of it, but the balance and tension make it delicious right now. A lot of fruit and flowers, with some raw animal, and an oaky backbone. Very California.

Chronicle Wines' 2009 Cerise Vineyard Pinot Noir (SRP $54): Grown at elevations between 800 and 1200 feet, the Cerise Vineyard benefits from cool coastal breezes and fog that help moderate day time temperatures during summer months. In the glass, inviting dark stone fruit and black cherry aromas lead the way, followed by notes of warm wood spice, fennel seed, and deep earth tones. The aromas come through on the palate with a round, textured mouth-feel and soft, yet balanced acidity, ending with a lasting, full finish. Overall, this is a well-structured, forward, and bolder expression of Pinot Noir that shows good range and harmony all the way through. Approximately 132 cases of this wine were produced. Region: Anderson Valley, California. (ABV 14.1%, aged 16 months in French Oak of which 35% was new, cork enclosure.)
Mixed Wines Offline (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red color. PNP, aerated into glasses, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. This is a big and bold style pinot, black cherry, earth, lots of oak and spice. Young. This mellowed considerably over two hours. Give a little aging, this may become a little more balanced. 89(+)?pts.

Black cherry and mild spice highlight a big, yet food-friendly pinot. Tastes great and hints at some complexity.

Barnett vs. Star Lane Merlot Challenge with mixed bag of other wines (Kevin's House (Minneapolis)): Cali Pinot. Big and bold and not necessarily balanced but fun to drink. Blackberries, blueberries, black olives and intense. Blind one would guess Aussie Shiraz based on color and initial aromas. Medium finish. Hold a few years for best results.

Chronicle's style is heavier and more complex than any of the other (great) wineries that source Pinot from this vineyard. Great juice

A beautiful, sensual pinot. Wonderful complexity and clarity. Cherries, vanilla, and a touch of smoke.
