Very intriguing, changed quite a lot over the 3.5 hours decant. Initially closed, dark fruit and to be honest a bit uninteresting, yet highish acid. After a couple of hours it opened a bit and was broader on the pallet with more red fruit. At the end of the 3 hours tannin and structure was much more obvious and a sour cherry/cranberry was more present. Still highish acid. I would definitely give this more time.

Wine Dinner: Mugneret Gibourg Vertical (Zazie's, San Francisco): This is rocking. Dense without being heavy, full of richness and complexity but also elegance, richer black fruit, some figs, freshness; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, plenty here still to unfurl, black cherry; finish is long. This is exceptional. 95-96

PnP’ed and consumed over 4 hours. Pronounced aromas of raspberry, strawberry, red plum, violet, toast, incense, chocolate, and wet leaves. Medium+ acidity, medium silky tannins, pillowy texture, and long, red-fruited finish. Still very young and not showing many tertiary notes, but already so complex: it kept evolving throughout the evening and every sniff displays a different, new facet to you.

Full of rich, streamlined cassis fruit with a slight menthol note, and hint of oak. Medium-bodied, good concentration with the elegant, civilized tannins of the vintage. A very nice example, drinking well but not showing mature nots.

Ouvert et bu durant 4 heures, a besoin d'air. Robe rubis, brillante.

Pretty closed from the beginning, black fruit and cassis with a well present and noticeable acidity. Got rounder with air, but not yet fully approachable. 92 for the potential, otherwise 91 now.

Casual dinner at Testacio: 95/99/10 flight. Expectations were high given how ready most 2010s are, but this fell short as it's more potential at this stage. Aromas show a very young wine with youthful, primary blueberry and black cherry with plenty of spice. The palate is also so young. While this is seamless like most 2010s its just not showing all the nuance and interest that it eventually will. Hold 5+ years.

Dinner at Testaccio (Chicago, IL): More potential than pleasure right now, though there is certainly some to be had now. Distinctly different from the other two Chaignots in that this had a little more sweetness and black fruit to it and less of the earthy NSG edge. I'll add that this doesn't feel as opulent and glossy as the 2018 in barrel that I tasted at the domaine. Not quite there in terms of resolution, this would need more air if opened now, or better yet, more years in the cellar.

Wow. This is darn good. Dark ruby / brick color is followed by an exciting nose filled with pristine red fruits and a wallop of autumn foliage. Deep and sultry yet so prim and proper at first blush - I will let you make your own analogy. Medium weight with a good bit of structure neatly hidden. Delicious now but I do agree that 5 years will be beneficial. Clearly the best wine I have ever had from this vineyard (which has many top flight producers) and close in quality to the MG Exhezeaux tasted a few weeks ago. This rocks. (93+)

So much promise, but just too young. Unlike many other M-G wines, this has a bit too much baby fat at the moment. Was considerably better on day 2 (after being in a decanter), though the oak also shows more.

Brilliant deep red colour matches the fruit found on the palate. Although the nose is pinched the palate is full of brilliant dark berry fruit and white pepper. Absolutely delicious in a firm package.
(Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Republique - Los Angeles CA): Served double blind, I thought it a top Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru. Close. Slightly more red vs black cherry with savory spice, good weight, better length, and excellent balance with sneaky power coming through on its finish. Very good now, with further upside.

A solid effort with a good aromatic profile but it will need more time to soften and integrate. Better on the nose (95/96) than palate (92/93). Good to very good but without exceptionalism. 93 points with potential to reach the 95+ point category in a few years.
TN: Decidedly riper fruit than the Jean Stodden Rosental 2015 drank alongside with strawberries and candied cherries. Some herbs and earth aromas. Some vegetal flavors and cola aromas. This is a structured wine still showing some edges. The tannins need more time to soften. Medium intensity, medium+ precision, good length.
Decanting: Not decanted. I would give it one or the other hour in the decanter.

Slightly earthy, precise and pure red berry fruit. Fine herbeal aromatics of green tea and a bit of smoke. Lots of elegance. Fresh and dense on the palate but also fruit-forward. Still young and marginally closed at first with a slight acidity overhang on the palate, hence best to stow away for another few years.

Complex and intoxicating nose combines concentrated dark fruit, spice, and smoked meat. Shows nice medium rich, dark mix of red and black fruit on the palate, with good freshness and spice, and just slightly tart. Very 2010 as I recall from release. Plush, ultra refined tannins with good, medium plus sustain on the finish, which is full and mouth coating. The input from the oak works well, giving tannin and complexity, and overall the wine leans more masculine as a result. Excellent premier cru, showing the class of the house, drinking near the beginning of its secondary plateau.

The first Mugneret 1er cru of 2010 I open. Put in a decanter 2 hours before. Dark color, fruit on the dark red side (cherries), earthy, good volume and length. It shows well his (excellent) terroir on the Vosne side of Nuits. Tasting this wine every year from barrel, it shows all the time its typical notes. The sisters Mugneret remark that this vineyard is extremely regular and without problems to be worked. Not yet fully in its drinking window, a short decant is helpful.

This is a wow wine and a really lovely NSG. The fruit is dark cherries with mineral and bitter cocoa, set off by very discreet and slightly resiny wood. The fruit and bitter cocoa come across cool and fresh, with a lot of depth. This all comes through in a delicious swallow and a lovely aftertaste.

La Paulée de New York 2013 (Metropolitan Pavilion, NYC): Sweet, earthy, subtle somehow with a sweetness. Finish is very compact concentrated Pinot Noir in clay to me. Very impressive.

High toned nose with spice and earth. Rich, concentrated and sweet palate, perhaps not so complex but pleasing. Good balance, rich, round fruit.

Tasting at Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg and Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé (Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny): Barrel sample. This was the only wine of the six we tried which had not yet been bottled. Shows a "wild" character, yet still maintains a sense of elegance. Lovely palate which is on the softer side for a NSG (Chaignots is on the north end of the village).
