File under "Things that would have been drunk a decade ago if kids hadn't arrived." Under screw cap and well cellared. Very much alive - honey, limes, not a sniff of any petrol. Still a slight spritz. Last bottle though.

A curiosity I found on WineBid. My mother-in-law loves this wine so I thought it would be fun to find out what it tastes like when it gets a few years of bottle age. Surprisingly similar to the current vintage flavor-wise, the palate is a bit smoother and rounder. Nose has some sesame and beechwood with peaches and ripe apricots and the palate was slightly more honeyed than the current vintage but overall this has held up surprisingly well. Well-stored, it feels like this could last quite a while. Very cool : )

At 10 years on the screw cap protection was doing its thing and this wine looked like it was 3-5 years old. Clean, well made, soft, fruity but not cloying or bothersome in any way. Hints of petroleum on the nose, decent acidity (but on the softer side of even that), a little minerality, florals and lemony finish. Good value and for those 533 bottles still in the cellar -- what are you waiting for??
Off dry mineral Riesling that has pronounced lime-lemon notes with perhaps a bit of floral tones. Like a lemon pie. Nothing too complex but a good value. Goes well with Thai food.

This wine hasn't lost a thing since my last note three years ago. No longer fresh but still loving life with lime and green apple notes, light minerals and zesty acidity. I don't see it getting any better but it should easily drink well through its 10th birthday; great qpr.

Agree the juicy stone fruit comes through. Gooseberry, lemon sherbet, lime. The wine is still very mineral-driven, but quite interesting and nice. Shows what German Riesling is capable of, even a very cheap wine.

The lime & minerals really hit up front on the nose but the deeper you inhale the more the juicy stone fruit comes through. On the palate the fruit has faded compared to previous bottles but it's still there, this just just an acidic/mineral-driven machine. I miss the fruit somewhat but I love how racy the structural components still show. I can hardly believe how a $9 white can show this well 5 years down the road but that's German riesling for ya.

Nice pale straw color, with a pleasant fruit and pear on the nose, not dry and not too sweet with a touch of spice and well balanced. Delicious and nice long finish. Will get more of this for our cellar.

- Light gold color - Pale yellow with fruity aroma and minerals. Well balanced, not too acidic with favors of pear and pineapple. A good finish. Not the best we've ever had but it was a solid Riesling and would probably get it again.

Holding up well though not quite as bold as my previous bottles. Full of citrus and stone fruit, keeping its strong acidity. Refreshing and great for its <$10 price. I hace 5 bottles left and am looking forward to seeing how it continues to age.

great juice for the price. A consistent crowd please that is easy to enjoy. Apples and citrus with a creamed honey and mineral backbone. Sub $10, this is just hard to equal for a party white wine, for non winos.

nice German qba that doesn't disappoint. always a crowd pleaser and went well with Chicken French. A little on the thin side, but good tropical fruit, white flower and white raisin. Short but pleasant finish. Consistent with other bottles.

(8.5%) Surprised to get this one as a sample as it seems the 2010 is the current vintage. A nice purity on the palate this one is slightly sweet and rich with tart green apple and lemon rind flavors. From there pleasant acidity leads to a mouthwatering finish. Clean and refreshing. All in all perhaps a touch sweeter than I prefer but at $10 this is simple and pleasing. Can you find better? Likely but you’ll find worse while you are looking…

I picked up every sort of citrus fruit on both the bouquet and palate of this wine- grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin orange. Also some fresh peach towards the end. Good acid, focused and pure flavors.

Color: Pale yellow, clear. Nose: Lemon, Citrus and Honey. On the palate: Creamy (more so this vintage than others), lemony citrus, green apple, harmonious acidity, fruit and minerality. The finish is off-dry, long and lovely. This is the best vintage of this wine since 2005, and perhaps even exceeds it. There is a richness and depth to this vintage that causes it to stand apart from other years (also good). This wine is showing very well. Still hanging strong a year after my last bottle. Stupid good when you consider it was $15 or less.

Nose: Lemon, lime, mandarin orange and pineapple, with a hint of green apple Palate: Medium low to medium acidity that gives it fairly good backbone; lots of mandarin and pineapple with a streak of flinty minerality that I love. Tasty and exceptional for the price point (and for a hot summer day in the sun)

Very light, pale, straw color. Petrol, orange zest, apples, lime, minerals, and a floral note on the nose. Crisp, mouthwatering acidity and nice, off-dry sweetness. Very nice tart apples on the palate with nice sweetness and enough citrus to keep the sweetness in check. Long, mouthwatering, juicy finish. Outstanding QPR!

Popped and poured, served chilled. Nose has apple, lemon/lime zest and some mineral notes. The palate is consistent with the nose, a hint of spritz, semi-sweet-tart apple, pear a hint of citrus zest followed by some light acidity and light mineral on the finish.
Delicious and very easy to drink; serve this to friends that are not really into wine - - everybody wins.

I often pull inexpensive rieslings and expect a semi sweet quaffer. I'm also pleasantly surprised each time to find that these wines are crisp and refreshing, with a good backbone of acidity. That is exactly what happened with this bottle.

Paired this with crab. It went well with most of the dinner. Fresh, nectary, apple flavor. A tad bit sweeter than I thought it would be. Don't hold on much longer with this one.

Black Glass Society: Chapitre du Qualite - wines < S$60 or S$120 > (DeClassic Golden Spoon, Seng Poh Lane): Very consistent impression from the last outing with this wine - it is a simple but well-built Riesling that goes very well with food. Nose was typically Mosel, with minerally chalk and slate scents layered over apple notes. The palate had some hint of sweetness, not quite feinherb or kabinett, but certainly a bit of residual sugar, along with more apples flavours, some sweet lemons and white flower notes all woven through with zippy but nicely integrated acidity. Not great complexity, but eminently drinkable. The finish even had a surprisingly nice persistence - something I did not get with the earlier bottle. No one was in any doubt that this was an inferior bottle to the auction Fritz Haag BJS Spat served blind alongside, but at a quarter the price, this is certainly good value for money.

I'm still learning the "riesling experience" so I am still learning what to look for, and how to describe it. This is very easy drinking, there is not much not to like here. Light in color. Not very complex, relatively simple. A little sweet. Pretty low in alcohol. Not enough acid to make you pucker, and sometimes that is OK. I like the viscosity of Riesling, and the way it cleanses my palate. Just open it, pour it and enjoy.

Very light pale straw color. Petrol, apples, orange zest, minerals, and and a nice floral note on the nose. Crisp, tart acidity. Very nice sweetness, more on the off dry side. Honey, apples, and loads of citrus on the palate. Fairly long finish with the mouth watering citrus supporting the sweet fruit. Fantastic QPR. This will cellar for several years and improve, but it is delicious right now.

Mostly clear, yellow appearance, with no carbonation. Clean aroma of pears, with a clean, tart green apple flavor and sweet, balanced, short apple finish. A very good wine that I would try again, especially after cellaring for a few years.

Lovely nose with petrol, lemons, tangerines and apricots; off dry, good tangy acidity, and pretty sweet-tart flavors of limes, tangerines, apricots and minerals; decent zesty finish, ending in pears. As mentioned in many other notes, goes beautifully with spicy asian food, and it's a terrific qpr.

Nose was fresh with green apple, lemon and pineapple. Although it had a touch of sweetness on the finish, it also had enough acidity to cut through the richness of our chicken pot pie. I can see this pairing nicely with Thai food as well. Would buy more at $9.

Very sweet (apricot, honey), with only a hint of minerality and mild acidity. Fun to try a glass, but just not a fan, but in fairness that is true for most rieslings.

Really fun drink. Fresh lemony nose with a lovely spike of slatey mineral was chased by a brightly fruited palate, with sweet lemons and grapefruit, along with some green apple at the fore and fresh zippy acidity and nice mineral lines at the rear. Some residual sugar made it a lovely pairing for home-cooked Chinese. Simple, not much length on the finish, but such fresh loveliness. Yum - everything you would want from an entry level Mosel.

Light, initially sweet with the typical riesling flavors of orange and asian peart. Not too crisp, but the acidity comes flowing to the tongue after a moment or two. Thank goodness I eat a lot of asian spices as this wine pairs well with it.
To me, this is an everyday dependable wine.

Such a solid wine. Bright and tangy yet somewhat delicate too. Peaches and apricots, along with almost a lemon cream pie taste toward the finish. Available here for $8 and a great value at that price. Based on where I live, people ask me why I don't buy Rieslings from the NY Finger Lakes area. This wine is a good example of why -- you can get great wines like this from Germany which cost half of what most of the NY wines go for and the German wines are better. Does not stack up well for NY.

{screwcap, 11%, A$20, AP 07 10} Near colourless. Green apples and a whiff of smokey slate. Youthful. Light and simple on the palate; green apples with a browning tinge to the flavours, marginally off dry. Nicely-made, well and truly off-dry, but still with a pretty short finish. Reasonable value locally, but you'd have to really be smitten to buy in bulk.

Racy and taut, with key lime and honey notes. Wonderful acidity and finish. Ridiculously drinkable, great with food. Better on Day 2. I paid more than most at $13, and this wine is another example of how Riesling is arguably the best wine a little money can buy.

bouquet of green apple, citrus, and light floral overtones; taste is sweet -- apricot, with a bit of tangy lime, and a definite note of honey, yet not overpoweringly sweet, with a nice, crisper finish than most sweet rieslings; great wine at an excellent price

8.5% Alcohol. Nice straw yellow color with a hint of green. Aromas included: peach, some citrus, minerals. A medium body wine with just a hint of smooth acidity. Has an initial hint of sweetness that quickly dissipates. Peach, honey and lime with minerality on the finish. Has a medium finish. I had it with spicy mini-tacos and a grilled tuna quesedilla. It was an excellent pair with both of these dishes. Definitely a good value for the price, around $10. This is one that I will buy again eventhough I prefer dry, mineral whites. Will be a big hit with my non wine drinking friends!

Don't disrespect this wine because it's cheap and sweet. This is as serious a white wine as you're going to get at under $10. A nose of pear, tangerines, and custard, which becomes richer as the wine opens up more and reveals peach blossoms and a drop of honey. The palate has freshness, and once the sweetness fades a tangy, peary finish kicks in. If the midpalate, which is just too simple, had been fleshed out, I would be all over this wine. 89+

Fresh but slightly sweet and thick, would be good crowd-pleaser at a Spring picnic or event, tastes of green apple, peach, and mineral or stone, with a glycerin sheen, medium acid, medium body, with fruit lingering in a short-to-average finish. Nose of wet stone and fruit. I also liked the low alcohol of 8.5%, also a good thing to keep a crowd at a party behaving well. Paired nicely with a fresh fruit, a champagne mango from Mexico. Might serve best around 60 deg F.

This is a great everyday Riesling and an even better QPR. I picked this up for $8.99 at the BJ's in Woburn, MA. Wine is a little one-dimensional for me and lacks the acidity I look for in Rieslings. However, still a tasty wine at a great QPR. This paired great with Thai food.

First time trying this vintage. The screwcap had a slight pop when it was opened and the wine was slightly "frizzante", seemed like more CO2 then secondary fermentation.
Slightly off dry which paired nicely with some spicy seafood gumbo. Apples, lychee, citrus, and a bit of minerals on the nose. Very nice acidity to balance the sweetness. The best part was the tangerine and lime filled finish that lingered for quite a while.

A Corked Wine - How Lucky! plus some basic QPR's (Wine 101 - Cuyahoga Community College): Screw capped. Green/gold/silvery in color. The nose has lots of green apples with a slight bit of minerality. Crisp, tangy grapefruit, apple a bit of lycee with an effervescent feel on the palate. A semisweet attack but dryer clean slate mineral finish with the same flavors. I really like this wine, particularly for the QPR. I'd have to spend way more to get a white wine I liked in any other varietal. So I bought more than a case of this. Great with spicey food and a great palate clearing wine to enjoy alone when you want something tangy and clean. In this case I can actually agree with WS listing this as a top 100.

Pop and pour. Color: watery pale yellow, clear, slight frizzante. Nose: Lovely nose! Honey, honeysuckle, pineapple, lemon/citrus, and slight petrol. On the palate: Creamy, and suprisingly smooth for a riesling. Nice tart lemon/acidity but not the racing acidity I love in many others. Off-dry (slightly sweet), I think I notice it more on this vintage due to lesser acidity. Previous Dr. L's were more acidic that this. Finish is crisp and clean and slightly honeyed. Nice minerality but it's not the strong minerality of some Mosel rieslings I love. Nevertheless, this wine is always a sure-fire budget choice for simple pairing with thai food, as I'm doing tonight. Really good stuff. Still waiting for a vintage as good as the 2005--the best Dr. L. in memory.

Pleasant and refreshing. Paired nicely with spicy Buffalo wings. Crisp, scent of green apple. Sweet, but not overwhelming. A surprising value at $8/bottle.

Had the '07 Dr. Loosen's Blue Slate Riesling yesterday, so this was a chance opportunity to compare a different Loosen for about 8 bucks less while our memory was fresh. Light yellow in color of medium-light intensity. Mild nose of granny smith apple, citrus and spice. Approaching an off-dry entry with fresh tangy citrus and gentle minerality. Overall, although it does not show the intensity of fruit or minerals as the Blue Slate, it is still surprisingly good for 9 dollars. Depending on what it's being paired with (e.g., Thai drunken noodles or Massaman curry), I would buy this again.

at first way too sweet, but after it was open a bit it revealed some complexity and roundness. still a touch sweet for me by itself but would be great with some spicy food or with something to make it a spritzer. nice for summer if you like something sweet and green apple/lime fruity.

Sweeeeeet. Way more than expected. Opens up nicely after you get accustomed the sweetness. Granny smith apples all day long, a little melon, and a bit of perfume. Every so slightly fizzante and only 8.5% alc. Very drinkable and even better with a spicy meal.

Wine 1 of Dr. Loosen Tasting with Ernst Loosen: Bright and fresh nose of green apple and slate. Like biting into a crisp, juicy Fuji apple. Wonderful peach flavors. So vibrant. Great acidity. Unbelievable quality for a Qba level wine. Unbelievable.

There is a richness and depth to this vintage that causes it to stand apart from other years (also good). This wine is showing very well. Still hanging strong a year after my last bottle.

Nose of wet stone and fruit. I also liked the low alcohol of 8.5%, also a good thing to keep a crowd at a party behaving well. Paired nicely with a fresh fruit, a champagne mango from Mexico. Might serve best around 60 deg F.

L. in memory.

Pale yellow wine with notes of juicy sweet apple and tart grapefruit. Nice compliment to spicy thai food and a decent value.

Nice and crisp, good balance of sugar and acid, medium finish. A slight petroleum hint in the nose? (NOT in a bad way!) Shared at a party where main dish was white chicken chili - a flavorful but not really hot version - and it was a good match.

Always a crowd favorite and a terrific QPR wine. Sweet and simple but mighty pleasing.

Not bad at all for the price. I needed a glass or two of some white for cooking and this one turned out the cheapest at hand, so opened it was. The remaining was surprisingly good, simple, but as lovely as simple Mosel can be. Good minerality, decent acidity, moderate sweetness.

Another good experience with this inexpensive riesling, paired with sushi. I agree with reviewer dickjokes this would be better if the acidity were higher, but overall it is delicious and easy drinking with its slight sweetness and light tropical flavors with floral tones.

Beskt och surt till en början men växer efterhand i glaset. Inte så sött som förväntat, och smaken är egentligen ganska intetsägande. Eventuellt bättre med några år på nacken. Helt okej vin, men skulle nog inte köpa igen. 50+4+9+14+6

Drank great tonight with spicy Thai. This wine is just so drinkable and the price is right. Sweet with a zing of acidity. Crisp and clean.

Nothing really exciting, but nothing horrible as well. Nice sweetness throughout, delicate tropical flavors of pineapple, red apple and yellow pear. This would be a great bottle of wine if it had more acidity, there is really no acidity to back up the fruit. Good as a $10 quaffer.

Good enough at the price, slightly sweet, nothing too crazy though.

This is a very cheap riesling that lacks refinement. It's too sweet to enjoy, becoming very boring on the palate after the first glass. Aromas of peach and mineral with flavors of peach, lemon, green apple and mineral on the finish.

Clearly inferior to the 2007 vintage. Very sweet and lacking the minerality of prior vintages. Still a great QPR and nice pair with Thai.

Pleasant and refreshing. Paired nicely with spicy Buffalo wings. Crisp, scent of green apple. Sweet, but not overwhelming. A surprising value at $8/bottle.

Tropical nose. Great acidity, which keeps the ample residual sugar here in check. Finishes clean, with great minerality. Luscious wine. 88-89.

Refreshing. Tropical fruit on the nose, a bit too sweet for my taste. Not as complex as previous vintages but still an outstanding QPR for $10.

Sweeeeeet. Way more than expected. Opens up nicely after you get accustomed the sweetness. Granny smith apples all day long, a little melon, and a bit of perfume. Every so slightly fizzante and only 8.5% alc. Very drinkable and even better with a spicy meal.
