Northern Gevrey 1er (Zoom): Compelling aromas of mature black cherry with licorice, minty and floral notes. Fairly typical 2002 with ripe, round and fresh fruits that is elegant and balanced. Enjoyable now and no reason to hold.

Gevrey-Chambertin (Northside) 1er Cru Tasting (Chicagoland): Charming overall with mature black fruit, mint and spice hints and a mature, engaging Gevrey character that I would have thought slightly older, probably 1999 given the mint. Very good now.

Dense and dark coloured but mostly red fruited on the palate. Powerfull wine - you feel it is Gevrey but also quite elegant. Beginning to show some nice mature notes of sous bois and mushrooms. Fine balance. It is a nice wine now and will most likely continue to be so for a long time.

Deep, dark colour. Served blind, seemed a much more primary, younger wine than the Fourrier. Bouquet of very ripe expressive red fruit: raspberries, redcurrants and red cherries, with some dark flowers. Sweet, fruity entry to the palate. Very primary on palate (I was guessing 2007 and thinking more Volnay than Gevrey). Polished, with very suave, fine grained tannins, flavours definitely in the red berry spectrum. But not without nuance and with bright acidity. The structure, fruit weight and power to carry this forward 10 years easily. Classy, 94.

Drank at Alvins for Wed nite dinner. Pretty medium red color, not showing much age at all. Fragrant nose of berries & perhaps some lingering wood. Lots of red fruit on the palate, very pleasant mouthfeel and a fairly long finish. A lovely wine drinking beautifully right now with no indication that this baby is anywhere near done, though unsure if it will improve further--perhaps the fruit may mellow a bit with a little more bottle age.

Its floral nose is enticing as anything. Add to that lots of fresh red and black berry aromas, and just a tad of oak, and that’s a pretty good red burgundy right there. “No-one could dislike this wine”, says Jancis Robinson, and it’s hard not to agree. Will probably not improve with age, but is fresh enough to suggest you can keep it and drink many years from now. http://bit.ly/s79iO9

At the Breslin, in a very nice secondary state balancing maturing fruits with more complex and exotic spices. Only a slight trace of smoke detracted.

A very pretty wine that kept getting more expressive as it sat in the glass. Took it to The Breslin.
