Served blind in a spectacular lunch of DRC wines, this 2011 Romanee Conti was a special experience I shall treasure, and for which I am especially grateful. Elegant, soft, the epitome of power without weight. Still primary, this would benefit greatly from at least another decade of slumber. No “mean greenies” of the 2011 vintage, the Domaine did exceptionally well avoiding problems that snagged other producers.

Grand Crus of Domaine d'Auvenay (The Grill): 00082/5673. Green but soaring! Rose, lychee, whole cluster aromatics, stem, smoke, blue fruit, chrrry, animalistic, meaty. So pure and clean but incredibly deep and powerful. Pinching on the palate. Very characteristic of DRC in a green vintage, lovely freshness. 97-98+

DRC Duel Chez Moi (Grands Echezeaux, La Tache, Romanee Conti) (My home): Drank after the '09 GE. This was the weakest in the trio, reflective of the vintage. Light burgundy colour. Nose of mint and floral aromatics. Wife picked up "wet rag" which to me was moss/dead wood. The bouquet was quite pretty and delicate. Palate less expressive. Stem, green herb, light strawberry. Some burnt sugar. Short finish < 10 seconds. After an hour some spice emerged and the wine improved. Both our (very generous) guest who brought this to my house and the rest of us thought this was not particularly unique relative to other whole cluster Burgs in leaner vintages - instantly reminded me of Dujac '13. 92-93. Again seems the vintage but given some other very high scores on CT perhaps this bottle was just a little closed.

Couleur rubis avec reflet orangé très léger. Nez somptueux de petits fruits rouges et épicés; notes florales raffinées. Nez très ouvert, envoutant. Bouche soyeuse, tannins très fins avec une persistance magistrale. Superbe

October 2015. Second time with the 2011' Conti reveals excact the the same aromas, and lovely pureness I found at the barrel tasting At DRC in April 2013, off course not the as profound as 09/10, this baby it is refined !!!! with silky texture, white flowers, and no greenness at all, the colour is on the light side, very little extraction here, it is a very serius 11' and gives you something to think about ..... Drink 2025-2035

2011 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): The color is very similar to La Tache. The nose is slightly more closed than La Tache and exhibits more spice and stems. More red and blue fruit notes along with wet stone. Somehow, ever though the palate was not as forward as the La Tache and didn't display the fireworks of the Richebourg, there was a detail and another layer of complexity that you could feel, not necessarily taste, on your tongue. The finish was slightly shorter than La Tache and displayed slightly more spice. Delicate, yet powerful and waiting to come out of its shell.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2011 (St. Gallen): Very floral nose, ethereal (again...), precise. A very complex whole which is difficult to decompose into single elements. Sweeter than it is spicy. The entry is also light, almost without weight. As it grows in intensity it stays better balanced and more elegant than the previous, with a less strong mineral note. Flavours evolve towards rhubarb, almost bitter on the finish. But then it calms down again and continues to evolve in an almost endless finish of Olympian calm and beauty.

Tasted at the domaine in barrel. Dark. More reserved and closed than the LT and less structured. Floral, red and dark fruit complex aromas…. Very nice length. Beautiful wine, but doesn't show as well now as the LT. 95

Tasted from the barrel. Just short of the La Tache, but very very close, this had a nice silky elegance on the nose with red and black berries and some minor fresh citrusy scents. Even a touch of baked bread. Very subtle and delicate wine with red and black berries and a slightly gamey finish. Hints of ash and tobacco also.

Green stem dominant, really jumps out of the glass. Power without weight, satin texture. Sweet and balanced, ultra refined. (253/5673)
