Deep red color. Decanted for one hour from magnum. Dark cherry, fruit on palate. Long finish. The 2009 is beautifully balanced and in a great spot. The best has subsided, and Matt Dees crafted a wonderful blend!

Been a while since the last bottle, needed something to pair with jambalaya. Good excuse to check in on this one.
From notes in 2015:"Medium/dark purple color. Nose had some funk and a little heat when first opened, consistent with prior notes. Nose more expressive than last bottle (from memory) - dark fruits, cherry, spices, cloves. The nose softens and adds nuance as it opened. Palate of black and blue fruit, blueberry, plums, cinnamon. Full and chewy mouthfeel but not overdone..."
Wine has softened from memory. Not picking up the heat, fruits still very expressive. Black and blue fruit persists through the mid palate, baking spices still there. Less exuberant now - in a good spot, would drink over the next 1-3 years.

I thought that this was going be much better than it was. A bit of a disappointment (a little bit of a rut here wine-wise here in the last few days). This wine has a great nose. Floral, herbs, hint of tobacco leaf, pepper, bacon, raspberry and kirsche. But the entry is a little bit metallic and flat, reminiscent of the nose. A little muted. The finish is a little bit tart and acidic and fades rather fast. Out of balance. Not really all that enjoyable and probably think this one would have done much better 1-2 years ago or perhaps maybe in a dumb phase?

Even better this time. Sweet spicy full vanilla on the nose. Full rich smooth tannins. Vanilla, ripe berries, fig and raisin on the palate. Wonderful finish. Drinking well now. Go ahead and enjoy if you've got it.
Note: Decanted, quite a bit of sediment. MUST give it some air for at least 30+ minutes.

Opaque purple. Spicy vanilla and dark fruit on the nose. Huge wine, packed with dense fruit, blueberry, dark cherries, enough acid to liven up and balance the multiple layers of fruit. Still very young. Reminds me of Alto Moncayo.

Decanted half the bottle and allowed an hour to breathe. Even then the first tastes were pruney and the wine seemed overdone. A little more air and the balance of this wine really shows through. In a great place at present, have 2 more bottles I'll strive to drink by 2Q17. Mature red fruit with fig, and a surprisingly bright but dry front-to-mid palate finish.

Such an elegant wine - strikingly beautiful. Strong and intense from start to finish. Lots of red and black fruit with a smooth/silky texture. The finish is long, elegant and powerful. Lovely showing from Jonata.

Accompanied an 04 Crocker Starr Cab Franc for Thanksgiving main. Much nicer than the last bottle, this was also decanted and allowed to breathe for 2.5 hours before tasting from syrah stems. Nose has spice, black pepper, black cherry and faint prune. Tannins are nicelyl resolved but too much so for my taste as the drinking window hit 4 hours after decanting. Earth, raisin, black cherry, strawberry. Drink by 2016 or later with less air. Crocker was preferred by all, one of my ATBE CF's drunk at a perfect time.

At home with Valerie, haven't had this in a little while. PnP and drank over 90 minutes.
Medium/dark purple color. Wine really softened and added nuance with air time - best to decant this a bit to get secondary flavors

Had previously accessed half the bottle via coravin. Pop and pour for the remaining half bottle, followed over the course of 2 hours. From syrah stems. During the first 90 mins this had an overwhelming aroma of a good vintage port. While it softened over time, at the 2.5 hour mark its still evident. The wine however isn't cooked or off in any other way. There's an elegant richness to the fruit, yet the wine leaves a dryness on my palate during its long finish. Will mark another one of these to pop during Thanksgiving to see if this is an off bottle and to better gauge the drinking window.

Robe rubis pourpre profonde comme la nuits. Nez de petits fruits des champs compotés, épices et chêne doux. Bouche ample, décadente presque, avec des notes de fruits surmûris et épices. Tannins et boisé bien présent. Chaleureux (15.5 %), alors servir frais. Pas subtil, mais séduisant dans sa décadence.

Two hour decant, the nose is luscious and dominated by the Syrah and Cab in this kitchen sink blend. The palate is very complex and an interesting combination of this wide variety of grapes that are thrown into this. Dark fruits, cloves, oak and dark cherry are all present in a silky tannin and mild acidity mix. The mouthfeel is bold and chewy and the finish is long. Get yourself a bottle and try this out, a great bottle of wine.

Special treat. Ray brought over Booker RLF. We compared and contrasted. This southern Santa Ynez berry beast was heavy on the nose, and tightly wound for the first 30-45 min. Then this opened into a beautiful floral treat for the nose, hints of the Syrah and Tempranillo, blue and red berry mixed with some oak. On the palate this offers secondary notes with the berry fruit, of mushroom and umami. Nice contrast to the Booker, but there were some similarities as well. Really enjoyed this bottle. Wish I had more.

First bottle of this - a winner. Decanted half the bottle, reserving the balance for later this week. Out of syrah stems. Shows its syrah profile in the dark purple color, but it doesn't grip the glass with the same firm hold - far more liquid/watery. 3 hours after decant this shows young oak, pepper and spice on the nose. Profile - which was dry and tight upon initial decant- has softened considerably but still has a faint chalkiness to it. Watery blackberry as well. I've had few blended wines where each grape varietal is so distinctive in portraying key characteristics. This is really nice and look forward to following it in the coming years.
Day 2 - Finished balance of the bottle, gassed overnight. Modest oak remains on the nose, but faint. Chalkiness is almost gone, but there's still a residual upfront dryness to the wine. Fruit is more red than yesterday - some strawberry with plums; finish is more fleeting giving its watered-down base but still an excellent wine even today. 90 today, 92 yesterday after 3-4 open hours.

An interesting blend of Syrah, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet! The body is structured and flows thick ;good). The nose of dark fruit and wood is pleasant. The Sangiovese is the dominant start. The Syrah spices the mild tannin long lasting cab/Merlot blend. This wine would improve with decanting. Average cost in store of $46 is extremely cheap for a wine of this caliber!

At Blue Bottle with Wendy/Simon/Lauren/Colin. Had this at the winery a year ago. Was open for about 30 minutes, not decanted, still tight when we started drinking.
Medium color, some initial funk that faded by the time drank. Nose was dark fruits, flowers, earth, spices. Black and blue fruit on the front palate, some strawberry. Dark fruits, spice, oak, blueberry, black plum and cherry, mushrooms, cinnamon show on mid palate. Very complex. Tannins still strong.
Intersting and unique blend, I would probably have guessed Syrah if tasted blind. Will decant next bottle for a bit, it was really coming together 90 minutes in just as we were finishing up. This is ready now with a good decant, will improve with age.

Beautiful color. Barnyard aroma. Some heaviness in the aroma. Red fruit on the initial taste. Silkiness throughout. Nice transition to the finish without a dip. Finish is long. Just a little acidic/burn. Went very well with lasagna. After about 30 minutes some cotton candy aromas emerging.

Hard candy on the initial palate with dark fruit predominating. Anise and flowers in the mid palate. The finish is complex with vanilla and butterscotch. Spice and pepper. A bit too complex perhaps. Hard to really understand the blend of flavors. From wine makers notes there numerous types of grapes in this wine, including dollops of white grapes. I would still recommend as it is quite unusual and very smooth.

Intersting and unique blend, I would probably have guessed Syrah if tasted blind. Will decant next bottle for a bit, it was really coming together 90 minutes in just as we were finishing up. This is ready now with a good decant, will improve with age.

Full bodied, dark and fruit forward wine that has nice complexity of licorice, currant, mocha and Asian spice. Rare to find a wine with this much complexity for the price. Decant for at least an hour to fully capture the quality of this wine.

Big, dark, and plump, coffee, vanilla and sweet spice nose and flavours. Ultra-ripe palate, almost off-dry with a sugary oak finish. Overweight, but honest wine.
4/5

Sits on the mid-palate a long time. String but very well balanced structure with a long finish. Ripe red strawberries, mushroom, mossy earth, sandstone. Definitely shows some complexity.

Really started to open up after about 30 min in the glass. A plethora of aromas, balanced tho. Enjoyed

Solid Solid wine. Loved it. Took a minute to open up and show it's stuff, and had a funky period 30 mins in. Other than that it was beautiful. Would purchase again, great red fruit, still somewhat tannic.

Lots of dark fruit with some spice. a complex wine probably because of so many different grapes but very enjoyable. Would like to get my hands on some more.

Dark black fruits with more syrah like flavors. Young but all ready drinking well. Will wait 1-2 years on the next one.

A very enjoyable wine with lots of fruit. A little complex maybe due to the many varieties of grapes. Chewy with a nice finish. Enjoyed it as much as I did at Jonata.
