Every time I drink this the first thing I say is “stunning”. It really is. 17 years old now and I really think I should keep my last two bottles for a few more years. It has kept the structure and balance, and the flavors are still bright and distinctive. Hay, quince, chamomile, lemon, apple skin. An interesting melon flavor that reminds me of the smell from scraping the inside of a pumpkin at Halloween. Chenin Blanc ages so well and so does Huet, so this has every reason to last and develop longer. This bottle supports that view.

Excellent balance of lemon zest, hay, quince, minerals, Chenin waxiness, chamomile, acidity and length. Bubbles are more like light spritz than bubbles. It is a delicious mature Chenin with mild effervescence.

Another stunning bottle 4 years since my last. Superbly fresh and balanced with light hay, apple and chamomile flavors. It is hard to describe how wonderful this is. There is no sign of age here and I suspect this will hold for years. Huet is a master of Chenin Blanc and this is just another under appreciated example.

Pale gold, mildly effervescence. Ripened apple, quince, honey and minerality. Well-balanced and refreshing due to the acidity and tiny bubbles. Long finish.

Hot damn - patience has paid off with this. Texture and flavors excellent, this has really put on depth & richness. The finish is definitely Chenin and not Pinot or Chardonnay. This is evolving nicely and we won't be rushing to open the remaining bottles.

Big bubbles! The bouquet changed as the wine breathed, ranging from wax to pear to honeyed elements to citrus, to minerals, etc. Expansive and weighty textures, quite luxurious, backed by tremendous piercing acids and a finish that has no quit. Poised, exquisite! 93-94.

Even more impressive than reviewed 4 years ago. The mousse seems finer and more persistent. Pale gold. Almost rich, creamy, decadent, but the acidity pulls it back nicely despite , or rather in harmony with, the residual sweetness.

Started to open up 1h after opening. Apples, citrus, damp wool, and mineral aromas. Palate follows the aromas in a seamless balance with a bit of yeasty brioche flavors to add interest. Fruit flavors are ripe balanced by really nice acids and minerals. Moderately long finish. Drinking really well now but still has a long life ahead.

A mature golden colour. Complex nose with yellow fruits and stones. Quite young and fresh on the palate but with great depth and complexity. Dry, fairly acidic but superb balance. A longer aftertaste would have increased my score, but in any case this is excellent stuff!

About 3 1/2 yrs since my last one, and it seems this has barely budged. Still showing a lot of youthful energy. Really pure and bright, with fine bubbles and a medium+ stony, lightly bitter finish. To my palate, and pocketbook, this is as fine as I require. An absolute stunner at the dinner table (tonight's was with capesante at Locanda Positano - recommended). This shows the breadth and depth to go longer and to also pair with a wide range of foods. Bravo! 13,0% abv., thru 2033. highly recommended
Served non-blind. Held since release. Next one in 4-5 years.

Last tried this three years ago while still tight. Now mature (cork was straight), this has evolved into something beautiful and distinctive. Perfect to drink right now IMO..but although in my (poor) cellar I wouldn't risk keeping it longer, with perfect cellaring this could be at the beginning of a long plateau.

Medium yellow color. Nice nose, loaded with pit fruits, quince jam and tangerine marmalade. Wet straw and a pit of toast. Medium bodied and delicious! Again, just loaded with very pure fruit flavors. More quince, peaches and Asian pear. Doesn't taste particularly mature, this may evolve longer but is in a beautiful spot right now! 92

I'd not tried this before, had high hopes... Decent, good cut, but monolithic and not showing much Chenin character except fleetingly. Not bad, the bottle was drained, but I'm damning it with faint praise. Too young?
Nose of apple, pear, a bit honeyed, some funky Chenin verve too. The palate is where this really shines as the acidity this wine once had has mellowed and rounded off while the texture is getting supple, with some appealing yeastiness, even biscuity, ample fruit sweetness, chalky, lemon mineral water. This just killed with carne asada, guajillo salsa, avo, & tons of cilantro. More advanced than all my other bottles and showing great interest for the future if this is the trajectory.
It was hot in Gatlinburg today. Brought this along and man did it hit the spot after a hot day. Refreshing, with lime and honey notes yet very dry. Not the most sophisticated bubbles or the most complex palate but perfect for today.
This may have been young or maybe in a sleepy phase? Just didn't really seem to show a whole lot. Still very pleasant and enjoyable, but I just expected a tad more.

Blind Dinner at Mark's (Chicago, IL): Some slight stone fruit and a bit of funk on the nose. There's a floral aroma that tells you this is going to be slightly sweet. And indeed, it is slightly sweet on the palate, but there's also a subtle hint of wet fur (well, it is chenin blanc after all). Not as much of an acidic or mineral cut as I'm used to in sparkling wine, but this was quite delicious nonetheless. A little hint of green apple on the finish.

Still totally fresh and vibrant. Drank over 3 nights and it didn't lose a thing. Pear, Apple with that distinct white fruit I associate with Chenin. Just off dry. But plenty of minerality and deeply embedded acidity. Great bottle.

floral & peachy nose; med bodied w/moderate but persistent creamy mousse; tangy white orchard fruits, fine filigreed minerals, med-dry finish w/pleasant acidity. good qpr.
white clam pizza w/roasted fresno chile; little gem salad w/avocado & spice-roasted delicata squash, buttermilk caesar dressing
Outstanding showing - in a great place now, and tough to think of a better QPR in sparking wine. It's actually quite secondary, with wooly chenin flavors. Love the lower pressure (4 bars). Clearly not of "grand cru" quality, but it's hard to imagine doing much better at this entry level price point.

London Blind Challenge (Vinotecca, London.): Blind. Fine stream of small bubbles. Some richness on the attack. A bit of prickle, feels quite young. With air the nose seems a little sweet and confected. Bubbles die quickly. Not Champagne. The ripeness makes me think new world, maybe something like Lindauer from NZ. **1/2

Lemon nose. Lemon and apple in the mouth moving towards apple tart. Finishes crisp, plenty of length. Great with seafood. Surprising, very good value here, I might have called blanc de blancs champagne if tasted blind.

Wow, just wow. Opened to celebrate a friend's engagement and it really caught my attention. Great structure, fruit, mineral, even some yeast-derived character. Really complex, embarrasses Champagne three times the price.
Astonishingly good for a <$30/bottle vintage sparkler … though I wouldn't expect less from Huet, given my previous experiences with their wines. This is already delicious now — with soft, gentle bubbles, a lovely honeyed character, and then a rush of linear acidity a few seconds in … which all resolves beautifully together. I would imagine this would age well for at least the next decade. True class, even if the price tag was doubled. One of the best sparkling wine buys around (that I've had).

Never had a sparkling vouvray before. If this is representative then I want more! Green apple and pear notes along with a nice beam of mineral and good acid. Just a touch of sweetness. Not quite up there with a good champagne, but very enjoyable.

Citrus and apple and pear, with good depth through the midpalate and a ton of acid that gives the flavors structure and drive. Not much overly cheniny woolly character (which is not necessarily a bad thing), and turns nicely earthy and mushroomy on the finish. Very nice and a great value as this is just as good as nearly all NV champagne that's twice the price.

First time trying this bottle. Really fine bubbles and a nice toasty note on the palate. Finishes with great acidity. It's a bit tight and like others have noted shows it stuff at a warmer temp. Can't wait to come back to this one in a year or so.

Monthly tasting club LTC; Loire Valley, Vouvray (@ MvG): Fine bubbles. At first the bouquet is a bit reticent, but quickly minerals, perfume, yellow fruits and flowers appear. On the palate sweet apple, minerals, a touch of honey and mild acidity. A pleasant and round bubble.

Served too chilled, the wine was tight and content to be (mostly) asleep. Tight, neatly foused bubbles, superb structure. However, after 10 minutes in the glass, with the temp rising, the wine began to unfurl layers of honeyed melon, crushed rock, freshly sliced apple and juicy pear notes on the nose and palate, near simultaneously. Insanely good, very clean and far more noble than the $30 price would suggest. very highly recommended

Dinner in Nashville (Burger Up - Franklin, TN): Beautiful chenin fruit here with great floral lift. Had some vanilla sweetness, nice mineral cut, and really vivid white peach flavors. Love the energy on the palate. Probably not as good as the 2002, but I did like this a bit more than the 2005.

Notes from day 1. Pale gold in color. Nose of yeast, furry stones, minerality, stone fruit, some citrus. Palate of an unripe white peach, white grapefruit, minerality, furry stones, and yeast. The finish was above average with really good cut and acidity going on. Overall the wine was excellent, my go to sparkler when not wanting to spend the money for a good grower bottle. Ripe, multi-faceted nose. Some farmyard funk and yeast. Melon and citrus fruit notes becoming more dominant as the bottle opens up. Precise, linear palate with plenty of cut, bags of minerality, and a vivid impression of grapefruit as it passes over the back of the tongue. Clinging, energetic finish, with a gradually fading aftertaste of lemon pith.

My 2013 birthday month tasting session (Extra Space, Boon Keng): Bright straw yellow with some tiny beads, fresh and nutty nose with citrus and yellow fruits. Brett's Birthday Tasting - 2013 (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Tasted alongside the 2002, I liked this better because it shows more weight and freshness. Explosive nose of peaches, green melon, toasted croissant and honeysuckle. Plush and full on the palate, but huge cut from the acid makes this work. White peach and melon fruit mixed with pie crust, limestone and minerals on a long finish. Very nice sparkler.

I just love how unmistakably Chenin Blanc this is, the petillant side has done very little to alter its expression of Vouvray. It helps that the bubbles are a little timid. Really opens up after a while and has a whole lot to say.

Very mineral driven wine, and one can taste the sweet, honeyed flavors of the demi-sec wine it came from, even though this is no sweeter, technically, than a brut champagne. High acid, classic wine, promising some nutty/mushroomy notes in the future. Finish is especially powerful.

Couldn't help opening one soon after UPS delivery, so maybe some bottle shock? Quite restrained on the nose, though a nicely integrated and balanced wine on the palate. Personally, I prefer the 2005 vintage with its raggedy/wild/brambly edges. This is altogether more restrained and elegant, maybe even a "better" wine ...but what it gains in refinement, poise and integration, it loses in interest, excitement and nerviness. Again, I probably popped the 2007 too soon after delivery and so will revisit in the coming weeks to see if my impressions are consistent. 13% abv.

As I said when I first tried fine wine at the age of nine, “Wow, wine can smell of lots of different things!†See? I was right even then. This smells of wax and rotting wood, bread and yeast, glue and sulphur. Sulphur is varietal character for Chenin Blanc, by the way, which is why all those South African ones are crap. This is an amazing roller-coaster ride of trippy drugs as far as a nose goes and, just like the roller-coaster ride of trippy drugs, it may not all be totally nice, but it really moves you and awakens all the recesses of your mind to new and exciting possibilities. There’s not really any fruit, and it’s not much like any conventional fizz, but by my hairy bums do I love it. I find it really attractive, actually, there is so much to keep coming back to and appreciate in more and richer depth. Big bottoms! The palate is even better! Let’s get this out the way first: Oooooowwwwww! Ooooooooooowwwww! Yowch! It’s really acidic and hurts my poor stomach like you would not repeat to a polite member of society. But there is an incredible richness and depth to it which keeps this in perfect balance. The flavours are complex, unusual and winning, with toasty breadiness competing with waxed lemon rinds and all sorts of other weirdy oddities for the strongest of a dazzling array of forceful characters. It’s extremely long and, despite the power of a lot of the flavours, sort-of delicate. It’ll age and improve in a kind of way for decades, but if you open this now you’ll howl with delight at it’s off-the-wall but ultimately personable charms. Amazing; we drink wines to be flabbergasted by things like this, yet it’s only £16 and it’s only at the start of a long, intriguing journey. Buy all you can.

8/18/2013 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine:
Served too chilled, the wine was tight and content to be (mostly) asleep. Tight, neatly foused bubbles, superb structure. However, after 10 minutes in the glass, with the temp rising, the wine began to unfurl layers of honeyed melon, crushed rock, freshly sliced apple and juicy pear notes on the nose and palate, near simultaneously. Insanely good, very clean and far more noble than the $30 price would suggest. very highly recommended

White peach and melon fruit mixed with pie crust, limestone and minerals on a long finish. Very nice sparkler.
