Raw black fruit, still tannic, tar, lead, dry leaves. Enjoyed the bottle a lot. Wanted to love the bottle. 90 pts

Last bottle of a case we bought 10 years ago. It sure has been an enjoyable experience tasting how this wine has evolved since 2013. We buy this wine every vintage now but this was the first vintage. Overall consistent with past notes but might be a little over the hump. That said, it should still be enjoyable for another 5-10 years. We usually always pair this with rich food but drank this last bottle stand-alone to take it all in. Just a very distinctive and elegant vintage that is well-made. Drink 2023-2028. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 93.

Ruby. Licorice and black fruit. Medium body. Clean blackberry, bark, and herb. A good swig of tannins but less so than the last bottle several years ago. Meaty, excellent acidity.

1hr+ decant. Dark red with purple hues. Massive nose of cigar box, cigarettes, cow shit, and damp forest floor. Love it!! Wine is well balanced and refined. Tastes like the best cigar in the world while eating a bowl of cherries. Medium depth and medium plus finish. Went great with stuffed pork loin, butternut squash with cinnamon, and lemon/garlic couscous. The perfect home cooked meal and evening!!

Paired really well with grilled tritip, sausages and heirloom tomato salad. I decanted the wine for 3 hours, the wine was supple and round and offered a nice balance of garrigue, elegant fruit and earthy tones, working really well with the food. Sitting outside on a nice warm fall evening with friends, I enjoyed the wine, food and conversation…just like being in the south of France…

Said to be a blend of 75% Mouvedre, 15% Grenache, 7% Cinsault & 3% Carignan from 40yr old vines. Opened 4 hours prior to dinner and slow oxed in btl & glass. Deep ruby garnet color. Aromas of pepper, meat and earth. Sips are a resolved velvety mix of more meat, earth, licorice, herbs and garrigue. All in all a fine example of maturing Bandol rouge. Where it goes from here? Is anybody's guess. Tempier Bandol rouge is its own thing and fun now and again. My last of 4. 14% alc adds to the weighty feel but no heat. Maybe a tad more lift would be nice. Paid $36 near release.

Decanted 30 minutes. Starts a bit shy on the nose and gets more intense with additional air, red fruits, leather and some balsamic notes, on the palate it starts quite elegant with a lot of depth but gets a bit tart with additional time, long finish. Great wine in a somehow difficult stage, the youthful opulence is gone but still needs a couple of years to reach its optimal maturity, at this stage it is better with food than on its own.

Tempiers are hilarious. I've had about three cases, all the major cuvées, from 1981 to present, and the bottle variation is hilarious. You just never know what you're going to get. As per my 5/29/2019 note, this was a wine stored as badly as humanly possible, and yet - wow. Needed two hours open to show. Girlfriend and I have had Covid and it's impacted us differently. She is MASSIVELY sensitive to brett now and found it here, just bandaids, for the first two hours. I did not. It's a 2010 Tempier, probably early in its plateau, and just a pleasure. Great food wine, and apparently indestructible.
I've decided to give up on the idea of writing professional-sounding notes. I honestly have no idea how to describe what I'm tasting when I drink wine. I'm such a novice at this, it usually just boils down to whether I like the wine or I don't. So with that caveat, here's my thought on this: I like it. I had a small glass right when I opened the bottle. It was amazing. Like nothing I've ever had before. Probably because I've never had mourvedre before. It had an assortment of wonderful and different flavors, and it just rocked in my mouth. I let it decant for just over two hours, both because the man at the wine shop told me to do that and also because I thought it was the elegant and impressive-looking thing to do (I had a date). When I drank a glass after it had decanted, all of that wonderful rocking flavor had dissipated. It seemed flat and boring to me (insert crying face emoji please). I don't understand it. Anyway, lesson learned. If I get my hands on another 2010 Bandol, I'm drinking it right away. All by myself.
Unique, with oodles of fragrant leather and cherry tobacco that lift the otherwise quite tannic body. Not as vibrant on day 2, but a nice thyme-y finish replaces some of the initial aromatics. Well balanced. Probably deserves more... time... and I think I'll wait at least five years to open the 2010 single vineyard bottles I grabbed. Tempier is never a wine I'll drink too much of because it is IMO way overpriced for the quality, at least here in the USA, but it's nice to visit once in a while.

Even ruby. Powerful combination of licorice drop, graphite, black and blue fruit, bark, and earth. Still quite tannic, strong acidity. A terrific early stage Tempier normale that will continue to improve over the next decade.

Decanted for an hour, but was ready after 10-5 min aeration. Coming with black olives, coffee, spices and olive oil, same in the mouth with a bit of dusty feeling. Some forest floor aromas are just emerging and I think it will be more exciting when those tertiary aromas develop. Went smoothly with a charcuterie board.
Ten years old and still rich, fresh, and lip smacking. A bit reserved on the nose, but I did not decant. Big satisfying flavors of black fruits and garrigue. Very Provençal. Long finish. A reminder why Bandol is my desert island wine.

Nose: The nose draws you in with a searching and savory quality with black cherries, violets, leather, raspberries, lavender, licorice, roasted meats, crushed pepper, spice notes, and warm earth tones. There is excellent depth as the tones have harmonized at this point, but with a primary quality to the fruit.
Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. The structure has peeled back and has entered a more mature place. While the structure is beginning to take on a more secondary role, the savory quality on the nose continues with black cherries, raspberries, violets, lavender, licorice, roasted meats, earth tones, and crushed pepper.
Overall: This is firing on all cylinders right now. It is at that intersection of primary and moving into tertiary with a whole lot of savoriness. This can certainly age further, but it is immensely enjoyable right now after about two+ hours of air.

Opened and let air with a slight chill for 30-min before it soaked up dinner of leftover steak and fixings. Incredible perfume of garrigue mixed with lavender, tar, roses, and sweet candied grape and cherry notes on the nose. The palate is medium, round and drinking smoothly with good depth, balance, and extended finish. Much more accessible than 17 months ago. Drink 2020-2028. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 92.

Decanted 3 hours before dinner. Black berries, leather and a hint of funk, on the palate still quite firm, dense, full bodied and long. Great vintage with good structure for a long life (2030+), needs food and a lot of air in this early phase, 92 points now with potential for more, still my favourite Bandol.

Summer Grillin' (Los Gatos, California): Decanted for 2 hours. Ruby core with lighter outer third. Some familiar Tempier funk (or is that just Mourvèdre?) as well as green herbs on the nose. Clean on the palate though with gently sweet blueberry and black fruit, a strong acid core, some stemminess, and real minerality on the finish. Still quite firm and could benefit from at least another 5 years.

This afternoon I moved an empty shipper in my garage and, uh oh, felt an unfamiliar gravity. Surprise! There were 4 bottles of Tempier in there. They'd been there for over a year. Meaning when it was in the upper 30s. Meaning when it was 113 degrees. Meaning when it didn't get below 90 for 4 months. But: in styrofoam. Also: Bandol. They make that out of iron, right? I decanted it based on CT notes. GOOD IDEA. For the first hour it was problematic. I couldn't decide if I'd cooked it. The finish was shrill. The tannins were pretty unforgivingly dry. But then, magic. With mushrooms and onions and a burger it was delicious. Growing complexity. Girlfriend wasn't as impressed, so she'd give it a 91 to my 93 and so here we are. Has a billion years left.

Overall consistent with past tastings but more closed than our last bottle a year ago. Perhaps in a dumb phase. Took about 2 hours to fully open up in the decanter. The fruit was shy while the palate brought hard edges. Drink 2020 - 2028, Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.

Wow, what a great southern French red! It is certainly ready to drink, but will have many years ahead of it. The nose had pine sents and garrique. On the palate,it was super delicious with ripe, dark red fruit, garrique and some mint. A medium finish that lead you to drink more.

Visuals: fill even normal/mid neck, cork clean no evidence of leaks.
Color: was deep garnet and clear. Aroma: started out with a very slight funk/skunk nose, which dissipated over glass aeration. Flavor: fairly full bodied and robust and it seemed to deepen over time. It was pleasant but turned awkward and dumb after about 30 minutes. It might be in a phase to wait out. Texture: mid to full bodied turning even more full after 45 minutes in the glass. Dumb phase?

Consistent with my previous note from a year ago. Opening up nicely on the mid-palate. Barnyard and funk giving way to more fruit, especially dark cherries. The purity of fruit really stands out. Silky smooth, impeccably balanced, and phenomenal concentration, while the finish last 45-60 seconds. This wine is a gem and paired perfectly with a meaty winter stew on a cold evening. Drink 2018-2028. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.
Medium bodied, bright acid, balanced fruit, typical earthy and dried herbs mid palate and finish. 375ml bottle. Served straight from cold cellar with zero breath - probably unfair. Very classic Tempier red IMO with improving refinement at the edges. Years in it still. Very enjoyable.

One of the most enjoyable wines of the year, even if opened in mistake for another Bandol wine. Opened for two hours and then decanted 30 minutes and benefited from the air. A wonderful nose that was best before decanting but good intensity of flavor with licorice on the palate.

Requires air and time to open, still a bit tart, a lot of black berries and in the background leather and etherous notes. On the palate very concentrated though very clean, elegant and fresh, medium to long finish, everything fits together, very classic. Beginning drinking window, has a great structure for a long future. Great Bandol with superb price to quality relation, 92+.

My last btl was almost 3 years ago and this one tasted almost younger. I decanted for a couple hours. Tannins were reasonable but tonight it seemed almost grapey primary and showing a lot of blackberry. Virtually no nuance. Drinking like it was recently released. One left. I guess Ill bury it for my 70th Bday in 8 years :).

Consistent with my tasting notes back in the Spring. Great grip, round on entry, and silky smooth into the finish, with a meaty, barnyard character setting up black cherries, candied blackberries, and savory herbs and garrigue. Should be good for another decade but in a good window now.

I opened a 750ml bottle on 8/30 and am just finishing it on 9/4 (left at room temp with stopper, no gas or fancy storage devices (I drink a lot of my wines over several days though this is the longest I've checked in with one bottle). I will confess this was not stored particularly well and went through two summers in my apartment where temps reached up to 85 degrees inside. I drank a small pour from the bottle each night. After a whopping 7 days open I am still impressed. The first night it gave a distinct animal leathery note with a hint of red fruits - it almost seemed a touch reduced and the alcohol seemed very prominent. The second night it was intensely saline - lots of cured black olive and herbal notes. This gave way to crushed berries over the following days. Tonight it is all dried fruits, rosemary and brandy, no hint of falling apart. This is a fabulous wine that really is just beginning its absurdly long drinking window. A real steal for something to squirrel away in the cellar for a decade or so...

Decanted 4 hours ahead and also cooked into a peppery beef/vegetable stew on a cold, blustery, grey Northwest day. Consistent with previous note last fall. Still young, but it has an amazing core of dark and red candied fruit just bursting at the seams. The frame is razor-sharp and the finish is dusty and scratchy, so give this time. Probably a much bigger wine that I had initially thought. Drink 2017-2030.
My 2nd btl and should have decanted like the first but I took it to Tilia. PnP, I need to lay off of these or give them more air. Best though to lay them away. Drinks very nicely now but still so primary at this stage without lots of air. 2 left and I won't open again for at least, 3-5yrs.

Nose of blackberry and plums, maybe a hint of cranberry but this is not fruit driven wine. Dried herbs, earth and dust are the real drivers with spice and white pepper. Med tannins, med+ acid, medium alcohol, there is structure but subtlety and complexity, and it is drinking rather nicely.

Decanted, let open for 1.5 hours prior to dinner and kept it on the cool side. Dark, inky color. Nose of funk, herbs, mushrooms, and dark cherries. Tight palate hits with more earth, tree bark, oil, black currants, chocolate raspberries, and some herbal spice. Medium-bodied, as best as I can tell. Finish is also still tight but relaxed with air and food. Nice, puckery acidity throughout with delicate tannins. Needs a lot more time but better than I expected on this night with fried chicken, sweet potatoes, and salad. Drink 2015+.

Decanted and poured, this was the third encounter with this wine with three different experiences. The first bottle showed tca. The second (replacement) bottle gave an excellent showing that lived up to the expectations set by recent vintages of Tempier. Unfortunately this bottle shows brett notes on the both the bouquet and palate that distract from the overall impression of the wine.

Restaurant purchase, behind a bottle of L'Aventure Optimus. CdP-like in nose and on the palate. Probably would have benefited from decanting. Earthy mouvedre gives the wine it's brooding character. Medium bodied with a spicy finish. Always delicious!

Decanted and poured, this wine gave an excellent showing. This bottle required about 30 minutes of airing to show its best. The aromatics begin reticent. Airing reveals a mix of black fruits, stone, herb and spice notes. The color is a dark ruby to purple. The medium (full) bodied palate shows depth and concentration with very good overall balance. The wines gives a medium length finish with ample tannins that are buffeted by the primary, youthful fruit. Based on this showing, the should benefit from an additional two to three years of bottle age.

Decanted and poured immediately in PN glass. Left in glass for 30 minutes before first sip. PN glass worked pretty well but I'll go back to BDX next time. In spite of quick decant this was very reticent on the nose for the first hour but eventually opened up to nice floral spice notes. The palate has an amazingly lush velvety texture. Silky tanins! I really like the basic material and mouthfeel. Even though very accessible now this needs more time and should end being something special. Right now mostly lush blackberry, some tar and spice. If, I buy more I'll try to hold onto them for at least a few years before drinking another btl. Paid $44 which is eminently fair for this wine. Unfortunately, I still have fond memories of paying mid to high 20s for this wine. Still, great quality and pleasure here for the money even at mid $40.

This is without a doubt the best Bandol bottling from Tempier yet! Strikingly exotic, with flower shop, blackberry, lavender, sun-drenched stone and ground lava. Spicy and lecherously beguiling, drawing you in with a long and plush finish. A gushing mid palate as well; stonking acidity that has definition. Drink 2014 - 2026.

Medium purple. Primary nose. Typical Tempier flavor, big structure. Full acid and tannin. After taste was like black cherry/ black raspberry rock candy. Wave after wave of dark fruit flavors changing with each sip. Really complex for such a young wine. This is excellent and balanced. I think I may have said this before, but this is the best since the 01! I have already drank 5 bottles since release..... gonna have to leave a few to age. The singles ought to be awesome in 2010. This looks to be a fantastic year at Tempier. Great wine.
