Fully mature, with a deep golden color, fine mousse, and complex bouquet of brioche, cut apples and almonds. Medium bodied, with surprisingly good acidity, a creamy mid palate, and a long and focused finish. We had this for our 25th anniversary, and I see the only other time I’ve had this vintage was at our 10th anniversary in 2008!

Dinner at Perilla (Chicago, IL): Mature Dom. Sweet, with an incredibly distinct note of caramel on the nose here. There's a lushness and breadth here that you don't get in grower Champagnes, and I am really here for it. For my palate, a bottle right at peak. Hard to expect much more from this.

This was a beautiful golden hue with a nose of toasted pineapples and brioche, apricots and walnuts. This continued to evolve in the glass into orange peels and was just powerful and balanced. Well aged champagnes are just so special.

Brought by friends to a dinner. Despite not being stored properly this had refreshing acidity, a decent mousse, lemon nose, developing palate of brioche, game, mushroom and lemon confit. Shortish finish but very elegant and balamced. 93

Popped this baby at a celebratory engagement/wedding prep dinner at Barnsley Gardens. 25 years old and could go another 25. Had with raw oysters which is always the perfect accompaniment. Dark golden color, effervescent, crisp and elegant. Acidity was bright with sweet notes of honey and toasted pastry up front and dry precise finish. Yummy and lovely. Drink or hold.

Jason's birthday: Thought this was a 2004. Surprisingly fresh and crisp for a supposed weaker vintage, broad-shouldered with the typical Dom edge and tension. Orange zest with slightly more restrained fruit than from a top vintage. Despite the naysayers I always prefer Dom to the other grand marques stylistically and for its consistency.

PNP at the restaurant. Great nose with yeasty, stone fruit, yellow fruit and slightly floral. Palate is balanced, round and elegance with nice acidity and depth. Mature enough to drink but no rush.

Had my issues with domPé in the past, but this bottle was outstanding. Freshness, fine bubbles, intense fruitiness on peaches and gooseberry, still rounded yeastiness and ample length to finish with. Very intense and polished display, just marvelous.

Drank at our first dinner in Anguilla for our 2022 Carib annual trip. Rich, dark golden color. Nose indicates slight oxidation, along with notes of toast and yeast. Good fruit and solid acidic core—Pinot fruit showing through, in particular. There’s honey, brioche, buttered toast, some nuttiness and some caramel on the palate, along with hints of oxidation. The wine is showing some age but nowhere near its end, clearly lacking some of the freshness one would find in recent vintages but that’s more than compensated for with a toasty richness that only a mature wine provide. Excellent DP.

It’s quite an opulent and rich champagne which has the notes of yeasty, ripe fruit, honey, lemon and slightly mineral. Palate is medium bodied, balance and elegance. Mature enough to drink but no rush.

Pre 1990 Cali Cab + 1981 Birthday Surprise! (Cowford Chophouse): Different opinions on this wine from its flawed to going back for large second pours. I love it, but I don't mind some slight oxidation to a champagne. This was much older tasting than the 1981 CH that we had alongside it even though it is actually 17 years younger and out of a bigger format. It's all nutty and marzipan and a bit more evolution and actually with more air it gets a bit lighter and fresher. I thought it drank quite well.

Drank at 44th b’day. Last bottle at 40th b’day where it outshone the 1998 P2. Cork smelt a bit funky but didn’t translate into any issue with the wine. Coarse bubbles initially, then fine bubbles for more than an hour. Lemon zest. High acid. Relatively closed. Served at 8c, don’t serve any colder.

Opened on my 55th Birthday. Bronze yellow color. Nose of toasted bread, white peach and citrus . On the palate bubbles feel very smooth almost non existent . Toastiness prevail all other "push buttons" . Some peach, pear and pineapple are the secondary. Drinking amazing now.

Pulled from the original cardboard box in a cold cellar, this was perhaps the most integrated DP I’ve had in ages. So complete and ready to go. Acidity, fruit, mousse, everything has softened into a really pleasing package. No too much late development, but just right.

COVID-19 in the Rear-View Mirror...with Lots of Dom Perignon (Park Ridge Country Club): From magnum. Very fresh apple and pear throughout with very good density and textures, all combining for a bright, long finish. A highlight of the evening. Best performance ever for this wine, demonstrating once again that magnums really matter for Champagne.

Opened with just a modest “whoosh”; light golden color; very shy nose at first (too cold) but with air and warming showed baked apple, baking spice, yeasty pie crust, flowers; nose seemed taut and dry contrasting with a slightly sweet palate that turns very creamy and complex. Racy underlying acidity carries a long peach nectar finish. This came off as wildly complex, refreshing and having real punch. Grows on you more with each sip. Plenty of life left as there are no truly oxidative notes present. 94+

Starts off so vigorous and a bit closed, but slowly gives up beautiful baking spices, patisserie scents, bruised apple, lemon, yeasty complexity, spearmint and honeyed flowers. Tense acidity works well in counterpoint to a sweet midpalate expression. Very lively in this vintage still and should continue to age. As my tasting partner says, this isn't going anywhere fast! Try again in a few years even! No rush. Still has upside potential, for me. 93-94 (+)?

Nutty reductive trademark DP. Lovely deep red fruit profile, rich, toast and very fine. This is quite lovely right now. Still fresh, but a rich mature soft finish.

Marginally oxidative at first with some unpleasant dusty cellar notes, but nothing a good swirl couldn't resolve quickly. A bit thin in terms of aroma intensity. But otherwise very fine and elegant and with flavours expanding nicely over time. Mostly pear and citrus fruit and very mineral overall. Amazingly fresh and crisp with just right amount of enough bubbles left. Distinctly melted butter with more time in the glass. Not a great vintage for DP and supposedly past its drinking window, but in my view if you catch a decently stored bottle this is provides for a fantastic champagne experience.

Wine Cellar & Al Fresco Dinner Party (La Jolla, CA): From a bottle that was purchased upon release and cellared under ideal conditions, this 22-year-old Champagne exhibits amazing verve. Sporting an active tiny bead and a bouquet of citrus, pit fruits, brioche, almonds, walnuts and white flowers, it is a medium-bodied, vibrantly acidic sparkler with flavors that mirror the aromas. Solid on the middle palate and finishing with good length, this is a delicious Dom that is showing beautifully. Drink now-2023.

Un champagne encore nerveux mais montrant des signes de fatigue. Belle couleur, un goût doucereux étrange mais intrigant qui rappelle la pomme cuite au four et une note de miel. — A champagne still nervous but showing signs of fatigue. Weekend Chez K's; 7/30/2020-8/1/2020: This was a lovely bottle; the effervescence was certainly waning a bit, but still there; the color was a lovely golden and the nose showed lovely brioche, sweet spices, baked apple, some oxidative notes of honeyed walnuts. The palate was satiny and had a fabulous feel with a long finish. Excellent.

Neighbors shared a bit of this bottle with us. Enough for a glass apiece. Drinking very nicely. It is worth the effort to lay down Dom. Seems to create more toasty in the wine, more brioche, a bit more interest. In a nice spot.

Light copper. Fine bead. Initially sweeter and candied fruit aromas, giving way to more savoury and meatier ones. Youthful and energetic. Smooth entry and mid palate. Long and fresh finish. At first palate is full of baked and spiced fruit. The top of the mouth feels dusted with a subtle vanilla. Again this develops into more roasted lemon and savoury notes. Tip top.

Tentative on the opening at age 22, it didn’t disappoint. Still yellow to look at and not a deep gold colour like I expected. No real waft on the open with lots of bubbles still. Great acidity, it’s aging gracefully and is drinking perfectly now. A Little brioche and no mustiness. It could go on much longer than the drinking window suggest. It didn’t go flabby after opening at all. A credit to LVMH winemaking.

Never the greatest vintage of DP but it’s in such a perfect spot now showing excellent freshness and intensity combined with a wonderful aged nuttiness. Also, it was the perfect foil for caviar outdoors and chilled cold on a warm summer day. At Ward Pound Ridge.

Palest yellow in color. Opened with soft nose, slightly citrus, pear. Big but soft palate ...green apple, soft citrus without being tart, faint hint of spice, toast all day long, bread-y, brioche, but not at all that (“pukey”) overly yeasty sensation. Lovely balance between the delicate fruit, the secondary flavors and the acid. Soft, very fine mousse and a gentle but really long finish with toast on the final exhale. So wonderful, enjoyable and worth the wait!

Litt tilbakeholden og ung på duft. Nydelig konsentrert frukt på smak. Spenstig nerve til å være en 98. Herlig sitrustoner i syrespillet. Denne drikker bra, men vil utvikle seg videre. Lang presis finish. Pent mineralbitt. Mangler litt på nesa, men strålende ellers. 92-93p

This wine was given to me a year ago with warning that it had been kept in the kitchen for a dozen years and probably not good. The cork looked shriveled and there was no pop when it came out. Upon pouring, there were some bubbles, perhaps 1/4 of what should have been. Sadly, the wine had a darker hue. On the palate, there was some efferescence and tasted on the cusp of oxidation. Drinkable and that was about it. A 19-year old Dom, if well kept, should be just fine. I have had a few that were older and showed virtually no age. This wine was mishandled during storage so no big surprise that it turned.

DP @ Medlar (Medlar, London): Slightly lighter than the 2000 but still fairly full straw. Some richness on the nose. Nicely rich on the palate too. Just starting to develop nicely. Recognisably DP even in the fish bowls. Best of the flight for current drinking. ****

I really liked this and it may have had to do with the fact that we drank it at midnight as a palate cleanser after a night of big reds (all Rayas). This was really refreshing. Brioche, baking spices, lemon, butter and a hint of smoke. Not the most complex DP but for what it was and when we drank it it was very good.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about an hour.
Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout with medium, steady beading. Nose of yellow pears, yellow apples and a bit of wet stones. Flavors of lemon zest, yellow pears and yellow apples. Bright acidity, full bodied. Still seems young and vibrant. Drink or hold.

Original release, not the P2. Golden color consistent with its 18 years of age, thin fine bubbles; moderately aromatic nose with yeast, slight brioche, slight nuts; palate is rich and full bodied, nice smooth mousse, medium-plus fresh acidity throughout, yeast and brioche, tart apple and significant bitterness through the midpalate; medium-long finish. A Dom Perignon at medium maturity, ready to drink, nice overall structure and flavor with the only distraction being the bitterness in the midpalate. Very good, but not superb. 91-92 1 hour after opening: The bitterness on the midpalate has moderated significantly and now provides more positive complexity (almost apple or grapefruit tartness/bitterness). Very nice, enjoyable, though obviously pricey. Solid 92+ 2-3 hours: Integrates even better, now the bitterness is completely integrated. Just overall a very nice, well built, well aged Champagne. Still expensive, but a nice experience. 92-93

Den reduktive duften har akkurat sluppet taket her. Fortryllende nese med saftige gule epler, nydelig blomsterparfyme, litt søtt bakverk, friskt eplekjernehus og litt krydder. Overraskende ungdommelig - veldig forførende. Nydelig mousse. Myk frukt i anslaget. Flott konsentrasjon og en balanserende syre. Ingen tegn til alderdom her. Lineær og presis i utgangen. Meget lang elektrisk finish. Er strålende fornøyd med denne flasken! Vil fortsette positiv utvikling og tåler lett 20 år til i kald kjeller.

Fragrance: Slightly intercalated and subdued fragrance, with light wafflearomas. Overall DP classical style with hints of honey, musk, and possibly white flowers.
Taste: Classic DP style with medium-dark bread, musk, any nut and light honey. Further follow apple green character and lemon. Very green apples at the end.
Comment: A nice Dom Perignon. The taste is semi-ripe and fresh despite his 18 years of storage. Feels like this bottle is perfect to drink on a so-so 3 years. At present, a good and fine cuvee but I think the body should be grown some more.
The bottle was beat up: both the label and the foil looked as though they had been through some battles. I was worried. But there was a sigh on opening and great color and my fears subsided. Crazy citrus and a youthfulness that was surprising. This could have been a new release. Great balance and plenty of verve, but the finish? Whoa cubed. It lasts well beyond what I thought was possible. Outstanding. 92-94 Points. thedrunkencyclist.com

Some people are not fans of this style, but I am. Pale color with a soft mousse and persistent fine bead. Madison Offline 2015; 8/27/2015-8/29/2015: Consumed blind alongside the P2 release of the same vintage. Notably more evolved, deeper color than the P2. This release shows a certain breadth and depth that contrast with the lively freshness of the P2, though at the same time this is clearly more simple and traditional in profile, smoky and musky. Perhaps a shade below the P2 overall, but still a nice surprise for me.

My first Dom Perignon I ever tried and this is nothing I ever tasted before. Not much bubbles left (think this is normal for an old Champagne bottle?) and an evolved yellow colour. Full bodied, but soft on the palate with a long vanilla flavour finish.

[bottle for Emma's birth]. Stored since 2006. Golden syrupy yellow and medium bubbles this is just shy of vintage champs in taste retaining a sense of its youth and minerality. Yet it has full and complex flavours of honey, toast, raisins, apricot, orange citrus, marmite. Beautiful structure. To be savoured now.

Not optimally stored. Light gold with quite lively fine bubbles. Slightly toasted bready nose with lemon and hints of apple pastry. Length and focus not what I expected but maybe linked to storage. This just proves that I am loosing my memory and I need to read my own notes, before deciding a Champagne! Quite acidic and fresh. Lots of oysters on the initial nose. It's possible I had a bad bottle. It was very bitter and a chore to get through, while we thoroughly enjoyed a $10 bottle of Asti Spumante the next week. Our bottle had been kept in a wine cooler since it was given to us in 2005 and was sealed when we opened it, so I'm not sure what went wrong.
Creamy, yeasty and with enough acidity to keep it interesting. I am sure there are many others available for less coin, but the sheer predictability of this is undeniable.

Djup halmgul färg. Ganska svag mousse.

Excellent bottle of Champagne. There's a lot of material coiled up in this wine... only the faintest hints of bready muskiness starting to emerge amongst the layers of bright fruits. Open and expressive at this point, certainly worth trying a bottle, but I still walk away with the feeling that this is only in its infancy. Really quite nice, but you do pay quite a premium for the label.

I had originally had planned on saving this for at least 10 years from its 2007 purchase date, but based on some recent reviews, this was supposed to be in a great spot for drinking right now. That assessment was an understatement as this champagne is positively signing right now and is one of the best DP's that I have even consumed. The nose gives off aromas of sea salt and straw, while the palate has deep oranges, tangerine, caramel, and almond flavors. There is also an amazing mineral component that almost tastes salty. This will likely improve further over the next couple of decades, but it is drinking so well right now that there really is no reason to wait.

Celebrating Bob's birthday (Maude's Liquor Bar, Chicago IL): nose: nutty and leesy nose with tones of pears, white fruits, toast and white peaches. Lacking depth and the leesy style doesn't balance with the higher toned citrus notes as I'd hope for.
taste: medium/full bodied with medium acidity. Finish is a bit clipped and slightly lacking on the mid. The leesy tones show through again along with roasted nuts, pears, paine grille and white fruits.
overall: I generally haven't been that enthralled with the 98 and found it similar here. It's a good wine, but there does seem to be a conflicting personality on the wine.

Bob's Birthday Dinner (Maude's Liquor Bar - Chicago, IL): This was drank alongside the 2000 Dom Perignon. Thought the nose was complex with good spice, yeast and brioche. Great energy, combined with power and weight worked very well for me.

Sampled 6/16/12. Color on this bottle was turning golden. Hazelnuts were dominant, which I like, with the green apple element fading, which was too bad. Still quite vibrant and strong bead. Nice balance but you need to like hazelnuts and some folks clearly don't.

1990s California Cabernet (Charlie Palmer Steak - Washington DC): Opening with a nose of toasted almonds, brioche, light orchard fruits and citrus. On the palate, this is surprisingly complex, more-so than the nose indicated, with a deep nuttiness and broad palate of orchard fruit and bright citrus. Excellent balance and a nice long and well-delineated finish. This really exceeded my expectations.

California Cabernet at Charlie Palmer's (Charlie Palmer's - DC): Light golden color with subtle bubbles. Nice notes of brioche, vanilla and honey on the nose. Palate had hazelnut and yeasty tones. Felt that this showed very well and had a nice acidic kick at the end.

Vintage Champagnes - DP, VC, Henriot, Vilmart (Legends Cellars): Wide open in comparison to the 96 but not put together as well. Rough around the edges and forward without the underlying concentration. A nice crowd pleasing Champagne but it never seems to live up to the DP pedigree for me.

Vintage Champagne (Legend Cellars - Irvine, CA): Most 1998 tete de cuvees have been outperforming initial reports, but this one seems pretty much in line with the vintage. Expressive notes of honey green tea, nectarines, Golden Delicious apples, brioche, and almond slivers. Not as precise or well delineated as the 1996, and maybe even a bit muddled in the midpalate, but still an outstanding Champagne with a great deal of richness and power. Very good acidity.

White flowers and lemon on the nose leads to a terrific palate of citrus peel, toasty honey and hints of baked apple. It is beautifully balanced and has fantastic length. A great bottle.

i was the lone naysayer on this wine which tasted totally washed out in the midpalate, as if someone had mixed in a sparkling water with it. funny to read a previous note. i thought this bottle was damn near undrinkable as a dom.

G6 (Rick): Straw color. Yeasty nose of pears and fresh bread. Tastes of lime and melon with a soda minerality. Nice mid palate depth with an elegant finish. Seems quite nice to me despite others thinking it was off or flat.

I didn't think I was a champagne fan until I had this. Now I have a craving for more. So I think having this may have been a costly mistake. Delicious notes of pear, nutmeg, yeast, honey, green apples and citrus. Brilliant acidity left your mouth watering for more. I think I doomed. :) Outstanding

While still a baby, this wine has opened a little and makes quite a nice drink now. Normal color. Nose is a little closed, but an hour reveals some slight yeast and lemony citrus. A little green yet, but with a nice juicy bight, that I really liked. Hold 'em if you got 'em. Gift from Collany's.

Again, the Dom Ps seem just too citrusy for me that makes them even cloying after a couple of glasses. Have not had much experience with them, however, the 3 bottles of 1999 and this 1998 make me think that Dom P is not at all for me. It's just boring and not very drinkable. Many of the grower champagne tried over the last couple of months are much more drinkable, balanced and much better value for money. Cheers!

A great way to start the 50th bash. "Like butter"...as they say. Not being a champagne fan, I truly liked this one. A smooth drink, nicely aged. Subtle aftertastes that brought a smile.

Dinner with GaryV and Friends (Mado, chicago IL): nose: tight and not giving up too much on the nose, but is showing some tones of tropical citrus', pears, green apples, toast and white fruits
taste: has a real elegant feel to it with medium/high acidity and classy tones of pears, white fruits, toast, minerals, and bits of green apples
overall: extremely young right now. The palate is real nice and shows off what could be a real suave wine with more time. The nose doesn't give up too much, but also shows off some nice class as well. This could be a real lovely wine in another 10 years

Very sophisticated. Perfect balance of sugar and acidity. No single, overwhelming taste characteristic. Not nearly as "smoky" or toasty as many vintage Champs.

New Years Eve 2009 (My place): Medium yellow color. Nuanced nose with notes of yeast, bread dough, freshly baked wheat bread, red apples and a touch of cream caramel. On the palate it has sweet, ripe apples, lemon soda and creamy caramel. On the finish notes of marzipan and freshly grinded cocoa beans join in. Nice intensity and acidity, however maybe the length comes in a bit short.

Drank at Peggy and Gordons in the Woodlands. Excellent bottle, but still on the young side. Good balance and structure with good bright acidity. Moderate mouse with modest yeat and bread notes on both the palate and nose. Good finish.

As one would expect, slightly more developed colour than the 2000. Served a lttle too warm unfortunately. Softer attack than the 2000 with aromas and flavours of sliced white bread. An altogether more integrated and harmonious packgae than the 2000 and held together very well in the glass over 2 hours.

Drank alongside the 1995 and 1996 vintages if Dom. Pale, yellow-gold hue, aggressive bead. Forward, almost floral aromas of honeyed citrus, honeysuckle, and bread dough. Medium body (slightly lighter than the 1995). On the palate, the 1998 still shows on the youthful side, with fruit and yeast flavors showing more prominently than the classic, toasty flavors one might expect. However, the notes of fresh citrus and under-ripened stone fruits are nicely complemented by the medium-plus level of acidity, which pushes through on the moderate finish. One for the cellar, should only improve with another 3-5 years, 93+.

One of my favorit e champagnes and how could it not be when I have enjoyed so much with the fantastic creator behind it - Richard Geoffroy. This champagne will be greatc as all Dom P's are with some age. Well it is fantastic already today. Som initial notes of coffee - so typical - like the creamy champignons, citrus freshness, vanlla, flowers and even some asian spicyness. Perhaps the later comes from my latest visit at Moet (Chateau Saran) where I had the opportunity to enjoy the most fantastic wine and gatronomy experience ever. It was what Richard called the "Seven senses" horisontal tasting where we had a seven course dinner - each course with a specific spice found in a particular part of the world (and we are talking complete suprises that one would never think of combining with champagne e.g. chinese tea, pigeon with curry, rambutan, coconut and so much more). To all the seven courses we had DP 00 - in itself a young but great wine. What the seven courses did was to peal layer after layer of the champagne and show the diversity and nuances of DP with food - amazing. Of course the start leading up to lunch was not too bad either - tasting Moet Chandon Vintage 2003, 2003 Rosé, 95, 76 and 59 with Benoit (the winemaker of M&C Vintage and NV) in their cellars. The dinner at Chateau Saran ended with a 1990 and a 1976 on Magnum - what a crescendo. Anyway back to the 98. My point is when you know and have tasted some of the older vintages from the house you also are more apt to understand what this wine will show with age. It is a great wine already but I long to taste it in another 10 years.

Damn, champagne is the shiznit. After our Champagne Offline a few weeks ago, I seriously was jonesing for more vintage champagne but that's like Billy Bob jonesing for Angelina again...not gonna happen, buddy. Luckily, my brother-in-law turned 40 on July 4th and he just happened to have a bottle of 98 Dom! Gorgeous pale yellow color and it just looked light on its feet. Toast, honey, butter, and custard on the nose which precedes the vibrant crisp apples on the palate accented by citrus and pear. This baby is lively and even a bit earthy. If you've got one, pop it. Why wait? 93pts.

Very nice bottle opened on our 1st Anniversary dinner at McCormick and Schmick's in Downtown San Diego to go with our seafood dinner. Very nice apple, lemon and toast with no alcohol or acidity on the back end. The mousse was perfect and the bubbles were tiny, very nice bottle I would definately recommend.

Open a bottle about two years ago and it was outstanding, fresh and vibrant, however this bottle came across as flat and dull with little mousse. Having said that, their was a core of apple, lemon and toast that reminded me of a thick mature montrachet, making this Dom quite enjoyable.

From a bottle that sat in a room temp closet since release. Noticably advanced honey and marzipan type notes, with some coffee undertones. Subdued mousse and rounder, more weighty texture with a sherried note. Enjoyable but tended towards flabbiness with time.

Had high expectations going into drinking this but it left something to be desired. Very nice nose of citrus, minerals and bread dough. Tiny bubbles make this wine ultra refreshing but to me this just lacked flavor, deliciousness and complexity that I would have expected out of a champagne of this caliber. Great mouthfeel and finish but just thin and overall not that impressive from a flavor perspective. I have had much better vintage champagnes at the $50 price point. Still a very nice champagne but just not worth the money..........

Palate: Very nice and elegant - well balanced. Some coffee notes starting to emerge - stuff that I love and have experience with Henriot champagnes. Acidity is there with a very subtle tweak of sweetness that prevents this from being too dry.
Overall: It's in between - age showing, but yet still youthful and zesty - for me this aspect worked wonderful this evening. Very elegant and nice! 92-93 points

Champagne and Sushi (Coast, Chicago IL): nose: steely and focused with lots of minerals, pears, smoke, spices, and almonds. Very chablis-like on the nose with the minerality and focus
taste: very laser-like flavors of bread, spices, minerals, and pear tones
overall: this wasn't what I normally expect from a champagne. It's almost like a disgorged chablis. I like the steelyness of it and the focus, but there is a warmth that is lacking for me and there isn't the elegance that I personally want from a champagne.

At the 2008 Post hotel Wine Summit in Lake Lousie Alberta Canada, We were fortunate to have Pascal Pecriaux who has been with Dom Perignon for thirty years. He walked us through three vintaged DPs, one DP Rose, and three of their Enotheque. It was a tough way to start a Saturday morning at 9:00, but I was up for the challenge. The 1998 Dom made me wake up and say, “Now that’s what I’m talking about.” It was pale yellow with a slight tint of green, had great citrus aroma, toasted nuts, oily in the mouth or should I say silky and refreshing. The acidity was balanced and I did not spit this in the dump cup. This made it worth arriving early for.

Lots of lush fruit. Granny smith apples and light cinnamon and fresh yeast. Bubbles totally dance on the tongue. Awesome champagne.

Very fresh and youthful. Aromas of hazelnut, citrus (mostly lemon), pear and red apple. Not as rich and doesnt have the depth of fruit (or secondary nuances) as the 1996 - perhaps with more time? Still, a very balanced, perfectly acidic champagne that went well with cheese and crackers on the deck. Good chance to re-evaluate the wine, I'm going to chase more 1996 than buy any more 98s. Was fortunate enough to have some nice champers lately, and I'd say my preference would go something like this: 99 Cristal, 96 Dom, 96 Jacquesson Avize, 98 Jouet Belle Epoque, 98 Dom

Light and bright golden colour. The nose is lemony, floral with light mealy biscuity notes. The palate is rich and powerful. At this stage, it is still very primary. Fresh, tight and focussed. Fruit driven but there is amazing depth to this wine. Citrus notes, lemon sherbet with very light toasty notes. Juicy acidity. It is balanced, complex and structured. Cracking length. Ultra fine, very active bead that just floats throught the palate. Would love to see this with a few more years under its belt.

Fantastic champagne. As the temperature warmed up, the champagne actually tasted better and better. Floral nose of white flowers, lots of pear!! On the palate, more pear and apples and mousse. The thing about this wine is that it is very balanced. Nothing is out of balance and is well integrated. Great mouthfeel. Outstanding wine. Nice, fine bubbles. Toasty, yeasty chardonnay dominated cuvee. Acid is just about right. The first glasses on opening are like drinking clouds, although the carbonation decreases dramatically after the first glass. My first Dom and I liked it alot. I had Krug Rose 1995 or 1996 at a tasting last year and I thought this was better despite being less than half the cost of the Krug. Plus I prefer red based (blanc de noir or rose) champagnes for their earthiness. No earthiness here, but everything else was quite in order.

Shrunken cork. Good pressure upon opening, but then very little display of mousse until pouring; fine, controlled chimney. Very pale colour; nose evident from some distance. Initially intense, very promising; then suddenly reticent; then intense again - it seems to come in waves. Lush fruit, overlying sweetness. High citrus notes. Flavour forceful - green apples, lemon; biting, almost astringent acidity, giving way to an almost savoury bitterness. Cushioned mousse, fine as expected. Long, mouthwatering finish.
My first bottle of Dom Pérignon. Complex, but not yet balanced. I assume a few years' bottle-age would see to that. Bought at Booths' 20%-off Champagne day, £63.99 - a bargain!

This stuff is amazing. Pale yellow with textbook mousse. Aromas of dough, citrus peel, nuts, wild apple, and creamy pear. I love the style of Dom. It's so elegant, unobtrusive, balanced, and approachable. Citrus cream, dough, wild apple, stonefruit, and minerals. The finish is delightful with lingering fruit and balanced acidity. A decent champagne. Still youthful but with nice lemony notes with toast and a subtle yeastyness on the nose. To taste, immaculate balance, good mousse and excellent lingering flavour of creamy brioche and citrussy fruit. No honeyed complexity at this stage in its life though. While good now this is still young and no better than a top NV champagne. To really see it come into its own it needs another 10 years.

Opened with colleagues in celebration of a great milestone at the office. Purchased that afternoon and chilled quickly to temperature (freezer then fridge).
A very nice champagne, but not nearly the complexity I was hoping for. Decent minerality, with a citrusy sort of profile - none of the yeasty profile I so often get in champagnes (I have very little experience with DP). A dry, crisp clean sparkler. Very nice but this didn't really excite me.

Plucked this off a refrigerator shelf at a convenience store in Newport and drank too much other stuff with dinner so I had to save it for the next day at home. Very nicely balanced with no holes in the palate front to back. Nice medium finish with decent acidity and almost a sweet tannic character. Left a bit in a glass with a card on top for this morning and had it after coffee and toast. Wow. Great structure and assertively sweet tartness on the long finish. I'd have no problem (except for the monet) putting up a case of this to drink over the next ten years.

A few days in Champagne; 7/10/2006-7/12/2006 (Marne): Built to please. Wonderfully round and balanced young champagne. Somewhat fishy or steely young Chardonnay flavors with an explosive, coarse mousse. Darker plum notes on the palate with floral traces. Will really benefit from time.

Aromas of lemon, bread dough, and flowers. Superbly balanced on the palate with citrus, almond paste, minerals, zingy acidity, and a long breathtaking finish. After some time and increase in temperature this picked up a little sweetness and body although the refreshing dryness certainly remained. Brutally young at this point but has a lot of potential for picking up additional complexity and subtly.

New Orleans Wine and Food Expo 2006; 5/24/2006-5/29/2006 (New Orleans, LA -- Hilton Riverwalk Hotel): Very tiny mousse. Fresh nose of butter lettuce, lemon peel, wet stone, and rain washed grass. Light/Medium body with a pale yellow color. Fresh acidity balanced very well with light fruity flavors of candied lemon peel, almond, lemongrass, limestone. Acidity mellows and the wine gains additional richness as it warms in the glass. Medium length, flavorful finish. Better showing that the last time I tasted it about 8 months ago. It will comtinue to improve with age. Some say that it will not age as well as most Dom, but I believe that it will be very good once it hits 10-12 years and gains some toasty, caramel and nutty flavors.

My notes match up pretty closely with other tasters' thoughts, but I apparently like this style better than they do. I find this fleshier and flashier than the more elegant and reserved '96 DP, though it's clearly cut from the same cloth. Ginger, coffee, subtle spice, nutmeg, white peach, and an unusual but lovely oatmeal note really strut their stuff on a complex nose. The racy palate follows up with an interesting mix of buttered popcorn and sour apple. The finish -- while long and biscuity -- lags just behind the '96's monumental finish. All things considered, though, I'd rank this ever so slightly ahead of the '96 (which probably puts me in the minority, but so be it).

This was opened at a free tasting at Binny's last Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of wine opened which included a pair of First Growths and a number of other classified Bordeaux. This was a fantistic sparkler. Just a step below the 1996 which I rated 95 points when I had it last November. Aromas of bread dough and flowers. A fine bead which led into a crisp piercing midpalate. Nutty notes mixed among the citrus fruit. Clean long finish. 94 points.

Very lively and zesty, still very young (I prefer aged champagne) - very good but not nearly as good as the 96. I would be happy to drink the 1998 every day, simply not at this price point. It reminded me once again of the strong advantage buyers have re: champagnes since we already know the quality of the next 5-6 vintages at least before making a buying decision. Obviously it's more interesting to focus on 90 and 96 and wait for the next great one.

Young........the same spectacular sillky medium body found in most Dom. I opened this bottle just to try it out so I would know what to expect down the road. More effervesence than any champagne I've had in recent years, but that may be because I mostly drink older champagne. It has good integration and structure, nice acidity, fresh and lively frutiness, and a slightly bitter finish that is somewhat pleasant, but I think will fade in time. To truly enjoy, cellar for another 4-6 years. 92 Now, 94 Likely later.

1 hour after opening: The bitterness on the midpalate has moderated significantly and now provides more positive complexity (almost apple or grapefruit tartness/bitterness). Very nice, enjoyable, though obviously pricey. Solid 92+
2-3 hours: Integrates even better, now the bitterness is completely integrated. Just overall a very nice, well built, well aged Champagne. Still expensive, but a nice experience. 92-93

Throwndown in Madtown; 8/27/2015-8/29/2015 (Madison, WI): Single blind with a nice nose of citrus flowers, toast, and meyer lemon. Round and soft in the mouth with apple, meyer lemon, toast, and poached pear. Really racy on the finish to balance the package. Big step up from the 03 a couple days earlier. Guessed that this was the p2 because of the creamy mouth feel.

Cheers!

Why wait? 93pts.

What a fitting wine for our first nigth in our new house. Crisp sharp, precise and complex like no other. A lovely bottle for a lovely occassion. Open on the nose with minerality like no other.

2006 Champagne Tasting (Part II) (Binny's): 3rd time I have had this wine this year. Always a consistently fine wine boarding on classic. Round with a full mouth feel. Doughy character. 94-95 points.

Poured at a retailer tasting. Pale color, with notes of biscuit and wet dough. Biscuit and pear flavors on the palate. Nice texture, with a decent finish. Not bad, but a very poor value.

Lean lemony fruit with a homespun texture to the bubbles, finishing with a flinty, graphite-like minerality.

Knightsbridge Dom Perignon Dinner (Carlos - Highwood, IL): More toast than bright fruit on either nose or palate. Very good and balanced but certainly simpler in every way vs. the vintages I really like of 1990 and 1996.

Knightsbridge 20th Anniversary Dom Perignon Dinner (Carlos): Tight mineral with hints of toast on the nose. Tight blandish round fruit with some toastiness on the palate. Nothing special going on here for me. Did not show as well as the bottle I had last year.

Coloracao amarelo palha. Perlage resistente, intenso e fino. Excepcional!

You just can't say no to this classic.

94 points.

Bold, lots of autolysis and nutty baked apple notes. Not quite as light on its feet as the '96, but still with a firm, balanced acid core. A bit heavy, but a very good Champagne overall.
