Ruby with a garnet rim. Forward raspberry and strawberry, sweet spices, perhaps cinnamon, a hint of sandalwood and wet leaves. Broad and ripe on the palate, tannins fully resolved, and the long finish has excellent saturation. Excellent 21 year old bottle.

Fairly robust black cherry and berry on nose and palate and Asian five spice. Started very fresh for its age, then more earth and leather emerged over the next few hours. Probably best once open 30-60 minutes, but drinking well all evening.

Probably the most I've enjoyed this wine since just after release, I think this might just now be entering its peak drinking window. Lots of black cherry and berry on both nose and palate with some background Asian five spice notes and subtle earthy hints. Very good energy makes this comes across as lively and fresh throughout.

Black cherry, boysenberry aromas, some background woodsy spice. Exactly the same on palate with fairly firm tannins as well as vibrant acidity. Still youthful and energetic.

First night notes. Cork had obvious signs of seepage. Deep maroon with faint bricking on rim. Slow thick legs. Initial nose is very potent/pungent, viney, faintly medicinal, a little berry fruit, some oak in the background. Initial palate is fleshy and boozy, and most of the action is right down the middle (no high notes or low notes, which is to say there's not much in the intial attack, nor is there much on the back palate or along the edges), one-dimensional. Fruit seems more ripe rather than concentrated. Tastes like sesame seeds and soy sauce. Not much complexity. The finish is short. Second night notes. Everything has opened up significantly. There's still some alchoholic heat on the initial palate, but the mid palate has broadened noticeably showing more acidity and tannins. Still one-dimensional, but there's more interest than earlier. First night was a pass, second night was slurpable.

Other than one bottle opened shortly after release, I stashed away my case and this is my first of the remaining 11 bottles. Somewhat surprising, this comes across as barely evolved. This is still quite primary, with black cherry, blackberry, espresso and new oak. Less spice than I'd expect. Moderate length, with a bit of heat on finish.

Holding up well, the color is a nice ruby to the rim. Cherry and loam, some berry pie and spices with good depth and length. Nice acidity. Hard to tell how much this will improve, but am waiting a year for the next/last.

When we first opened this bottle I thought it was corked. The cork show evidence of leaching. The wine had a very funky nose and a taste of burnt wood and sourness. I just about poured it down the drain, but I let it sit overnight (almost by accident). I tenitively tried the wine the next day and the nose was an intense dark floral. The palate showed a lack of fruit, a slight burn on the finish, but had some complexity to it. Probably should have drank this wine sooner, but glad it all worked out in the end.

Nose and aromas show the same spicy black cherry. Not very floral, but great spice, followed by some pepper on the finish. Lots of acidity, very long finish. Hold to at least 2007.

Still nicely fresh black fruit with savory spice. Still has the structural backbone to keep it reasonable bright. Held well all evening.

16th Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Same Old Place): One of the biggest, most unevolved of the bunch --- and that seems to be the goal at this winery. A dark wine w/ sweet cherry, berry and spice notes. 91 on day 2.

Not as expressive on the nose as the 2004, but much more satisfying taste and overall performance. Medium to full body.
