PNP with some grilled tenderloin tips and caprese salad. Cigar box and some baked plums or blackberries on the nose. Surprisingly bright and needed some time to open up. Can definitely feel/taste the Grenache in mouthfeel and on the palette. Way better than expected for the age. Consumed over 3 hours and it didn’t drop off at all. About the best $9 bottle that was close to 15 years old I’ve tasted. Well done.

Red over blackberry, sweet spice, alcohol prickle, a sense of brooding power. In the mouth it's juicy, fruit present and persistent, joined by sweet spice and a little alcohol heat. It's still a bit of a beast for me. Time is available - fruit still shows...

Cotes du Rhone (Frank's place in Matraville): From Coravin. Ripe, concentrated, smells 'dense', blackberry, ripe red berries; almost strawberry jam, peppery spice, slightly alcohol warmth. Medium plus intensity acidity, tight tannins, this is for me, still, a bit of a beast. Quite closed down.

Needs filtering/decanting. Has not aged as well as the 2006, there's some browning at the edge of the dark plu-red. On the nose, a bit of leather, dry rose, liquorice. Medium to medium-full body, some tannins, dry leather, cedar, black pepper, dry herbs. Lighter than the 2006

From magnum. Typical Guigal Cotes du rhone which has shed some of its tannin in the last years of cellaring. Smooth, round and generous, but with less fruit attack than younger vintages. The 90 points from the Wine Advocate are still a fair rating for this wine. Even from the magnum you should drink it up in the next couple of years.

Überzeugend, heute mit lederig-rauchigem bbq Aroma und fruchtsüßem Start, entfaltet der Wein echtes Volumen getragen von einem großen Spektrum weiterer Aromen aus dem südfranzösischen Sommer.

This is a ridiculous wine! Nose is packed with black fruit and oak. Plums, very ripe sweet cherries, liquorice, light menthol, a bit of butterscotch some dried fruit, raisins and figs together with bourbon vanilla.
Lacking a bit of acidity (medium(-)), plenty of ripe sweetish fruit. High intensity, good length and some tannins on the finish.
Had this pinned down as a Barossa Shiraz. Powerfull and extremely ripe. And even though it is a bit over the top, it is quite delicious and incredibly good value. Will easily keep for another 5 years.

Found this in the corner of the cellar and assumed that it would be washed-out. Not so. Served at cellar temperature. The wine was well-balanced with prominent notes of garrigue and spice. Medium-bodied and finished without any heat. In all, this was quite satisfying and fulfilled the promise of the vintage, without being stewed, extracted, or soupy. I've generally stopped buying and drinking Rhones and was very pleasantly surprised with this - maybe there is some hope after all? Bottle states alcohol at 14%.

My last bottle of this wine. I've had quite a number of bottles of it over the past 4 years and it was interesting to see it evolve. I can't say it really improved. In fact I think it was better at the 2-3 year mark. More power with herbs and meatiness. At the 8 years, its more elegant and has red fruits instead of black, but the herbal complexity is gone and its replaced by some astringency and unfortunately alcohol notes. The 2006 vintage was a revelation for me and really got me appreciating more savoury wines. The Guigal cote du Rhone is a really good wine at a good price, but now I look for smaller family run producers and lean more towards burgundy and the Loire than southern Rhone. Time to move on.

Good fruit with some sweetness left. The raisins that I found previously were not there. Nice touch of under bush and very good balance. Better than I remembered it.

Previous notes (5/31/13 and 3/25/11) still hold. A disappointing offering with no sense of place. Bronco Wines ('Two Buck Chuck') could have produced this at one-fifth the price. Light purple in the glass with feathery legs and an overwhelming black licorice bouquet. Dull plums, red cherries and bark on the palate, followed by a flat finish of, again, licorice/anise. I realize this is an entry-level CdR. However, this producer is capable of wines of thrilling Wagnerian proportions. This wine is Strauss, performed with two fingers. Drink up.

Guigal 2007 blind tasting (Home): Decanted for an hour. Had alongside Guigal's Hermitage and CNdP from the same vintage. This was definitely flat and insipid compared to the other two, although it probably would have been good on its own. Has seen better days.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): Garnet with lighter rim; black raspberry, slight reductive, garrigue, ripe, almost fig; sweet fruit, grainy Grenache, some freshness, good nobility; wow, that didn't feel out of place in this tasting, Guigal made [a lot and] great CdR that vintage.

Dark red color. Smell is dominated by fruits. In the mouth the wine is smooth and well balanced. Good fruit but also some raisins which reduces the overall impression and suggests that it is time to drink up.

Initially closed and smelling of sulfur, this wine opened up beautifully after an hour or so. It was even better the next day after keeping the undrunk half in the fridge overnight.
Deep, long and complex with a satisfying and smooth finish. Great depth. I would not hesitate to keep this one for another five years.

Functional. Not offensive, fairly cheap sweet overtones but easy to quaff and can be good in a restaurant setting (I remember having a bottle at Nobu steakhouse in Kyoto), where its good QPR counts. Not one for me to have at home though - absolutely not, and never again (zero complexity or interest for me). Hope the 2010 is a step up.

Want to get drunk on midnight and have a good night sleep so pull out this bottle from the chiller. It was nearly a year from my last tasting and this is still good. Pop and pour and it is immediately open for business. Dark fruits, pepper with a dash of oak on the nose. A simple but balance wine that deliver well at this price point. Medium bodied, dark fruits, earth, sweet fruits and a hints of barnyard note. Soft tannins with medium finish. Drinking very nicely tonight for me and I'm sure I can sleep well tonight :)

Event - Family - Nephew T.; 6/15/2013-6/16/2013 (San Diego, CA): Bouquet cherry, earthy. Taste blackberry, cherry, plum, raisin, green vegetable (with pepper salami), sweet (with Dijon mustard), moderate finish. Nice Rhone with balance, solid and soft finish, goes well with variety of meats and cheeses, so it exudes some versatility.

Correctly made; just not very exciting, especially when compared with other sub-$15 CdR's we've had over the years. Purple hued with light smokey nose that offers light fruit notes (plum and some blackberry) on the palate. Not much of a finish. Medium bodied with nice acidity. Doesn't offer much sense of place, seeming more industrial than artistic.

Ahh, here we go. This is more like the bottle drank on 4/17/12 versus the last one on 4/20/13 which was lacking greatly on acidity. Last bottle of this and it's drinking great.

This bottle was better than the last one. The wine is becoming more subtle with a bit of age and it took me a couple glasses to really start to appreciate it. There were nice herbal notes and some savoriness. I don't think this wine is really something to put down for too long and I'm going to make a point of trying to finish my remaining bottles.

Nose: Similar inky and spicy notes to the last bottle. Palate: Spice and dark fruits but other recent reviewers are correct in that this has less acidity and tannins than my last bottle (notes on 4/17/12). Still drinkable but drink now through next two months as this is definitely past peak.

This may have been just a bad bottle, but was pretty disappointing tonight. I haven't tasted this vintage in 9 months and was wondering what age might have done to it. At first opening, the wine was all cream and red berries. Gone, was any of the sausage and herbal notes I've liked with this wine in the past. The wine went quickly downhill from here and just became a disjointed alcoholic mess. Maybe just premature bottle age. I'm not sure. I'll have to open another bottle to double check.

Best buy at $11-13/bottle and even less with a case price. Fantastic deep ruby red wine with the right balance of berries/spice and smokiness. The '07 is an excellent vintage for this day-to-day wine...if it can still be found! Drinking the '09 and saving the '07 as long as possible!

Really surprising wine. With very little time to air, had it homemade spaghetti and some rustic bread. Very smooth with a lush mouthfeel. Tannins were soft and integrated. This sat in my cellar for some years and I was worried it might spoil, because it's a budget wine from this famous producer. Completely wrong, the wine gained a lot by storage is, by now its barnyard and tobacco all over - albeit a bit too light bodied. Very enjoyable, all the same. Very likely, the other bottle will keep well another five years but I doubt it's woth the wait.

Very good, ESPECIALLY at this price point, but nice typicity: red bramble fruit, garrigue, mushroom, earth. Used half in a pot roast, drank the rest in the evening. Solid stuff; I think I should buy a case, particularly given the dictum that one should not cook with wine of any less quality than what you'd happily drink (because after the alcohol cooks off, all you're left with is flavor). This one works for me both ways.

Appearance: Bright and clear, deep ruby in color, with garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, medium (+) intensity and having developing aromas of black cherry, prune, baked plum, smoke, cloves, black pepper and hints of iris. Palate: Dry with medium and lively acidity, showing a medium (+) tannin of supple yet grippy texture, the wine is of medium (+) alcohol and medium (+) body, showing medium intensity flavors of black cherry, blackberry, prune, cloves and black pepper, with medium length. Conclusion: Good quality mid-priced Rhone showing a fairly complex and intense nose, with ample ripe fruit characters. With warming alcohol which is quite typical of the wines coming from the region, the palate is reasonably intense with fair complexity and length. Ready to drink now and can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Given the hype over 2007 S. Rhône I was surprised to see a gigantic pallet of these stacked up at Costco for the first time this week. At $12 not a discount, but I don't drink much CdR anymore, and so had never tried this vintage. Why not... I was expecting something super-ripe given the vintage, but the simple red fruit profile here is somewhat subdued, with a barnyard/saddle leather component adding to the little amount of complexity. Tannins are present on the finish but well integrated. Overall a solid bottle, nice QPR and very true to the Rhône. This wine may be brett-infected however for my tastes this particular bottle wan't at objectionable levels. My wife didn't like it though.

Dark and deep yet clear ruby color. Has some mature characteristics with aromas of ripe sweet cherry, some plums, sun-baked fruit, pipe tobacco, some cognac-y oak and milk chocolate, a little strawberry jam and a faint touch of alcohol. Initially a little stuffy with earthy characteristics, but this one blows off to reveal a touch of leather. Initially quite muted and nondescript, but opens up to reveal an open, fruit-forward wine with flavors of sweet cherry, cranberry, ripe damsons and some meaty nuances. Underneath, complex layers of crushed peppercorns, spicy Mourvèdre notes, cocoa oak, leather and a little earth. Some nice tannic grip and good enough acidity. Short-ish to medium length finish with flavors of gravelly earth, leather, cognac-y caramel oak, ripe strawberry and raspberry, some milk chocolate and a hint of garrigue.
Nice to see that even these basic level CdR wines can develop nicely. This is in such a ripe and mature condition, that I believe it has reached its plateau of maturity some while ago, and it will stay there for a few more years. It lacks the youthful power of fruit, but instead showcases nicely some more developed nuances you rarely see in wines of this price point. An honest, straghtforward, basic-level powerhouse with nice complexity. Loses some points from a bit too pronounced alcohol and a bit too obvious oak, but gains some back from its enjoyable, mature expression. Very nice for its price (11,99€)!

Reasonably priced, this is a good general run of the mill CdR, with no major positive or negative qualities. The alcohol is just a bit much, though this blows off with a couple of hours in the glass. Good garrigue and rustic rhone palate without being offputting to people I know who would consider themselves new world wine drinkers. Would not buy much again if over $13.
Overall, a good daily drinker. Don't see this one gaining anything from aging in the future, though there is good tannic structure.

Fairly unchanged from my tasting note from last year - see below. I would say it is now at or near its drinking peak. Despite the rough edges mostly gone, I find that the alcohol content is just too present and overpowers the wine a bit. OK QPR but I have to say I reget having picked up a case as I still have 8 left and really don't feel like working my way through them.
"Dark purple. Aroma of cherry and other dark fruits. Medium body. Cherry, raspberry and pepper on the palate. Tannins fairly strong giving it a bit of a sharp aftertaste. A bit too sharp for my taste, I will try it again in a year to see if it has mellowed a bit. My wife reacts to sulphites/something in certain wines and she DID react to this bottle."

Tried earlier vintages but I did not impressed and think it is just a decent daily quaffer. So when there was sale on this wine couple with 90 pts from RP and comments of "finest CdR from Guigal to date...", I decided to give it a try and grab a few bottles. It's a blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. Dark ruby red, it has nice and typical Southern Rhone red blend nose, young and fruity, showing strawberry, cherry, floral, spice and white pepper. But the palate is a little let down, it has a rustic quality and racy acidity, along with red fruits, kirsch, plum and hints of white pepper. Medium bodied, soft tannins with slight bitterness at the finishing. Quite a huge production, 3.5 mil bottles for this vintage and wine critics really did a great favour to push the sales of this wines. Otherwise I would not have bought few bottles too. It is not much different compare to its earlier vintages other than slightly more bodied in 2007. 87 pts fr WS would be more realistic.

While this is definitely in its drinking window, I think the higher ABV sort of hurts what would otherwise be a fantastic wine that is over 50% Syrah with the remainder Grenache and a touch of mouvedre. Good red raspberry and dark cherry. Herbs de provence also come out. a dark ruby color in the glass that has just a hint of a clear rim. Fantastic Qpr, but the '09 side by side was even better.

This cheeky little wine has no business being as good as it is. It certainly doesn't taste like a bottom level offering. Fairly dark in color, with a complex, intriguing nose. Dark fruit, spice, a little alcohol, some tobacco and a bit of funk. Spice and fruit on the palate, too, and a high level of acidity - perhaps a bit too high. Firm, drying tannins. Still very fresh, and will probably last for several years. This really comes together well; the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Perfect picnic or barbeque wine, and not bad for sipping on its own, either. The world needs more inexpensive wines like this. Highest recommendation.

Some tobacco on the nose. Tastes of pomegranate, cherry and dark chocolate. Slightly tight on the mid-palate but with very strong acidic structure and fine tannins. - Brick color with medium forming legs and aromas of black pepper and has flavours of licorice anise and coffee - Barnyard aromas are the first impression, followed by pepper, consistent with what you would expect from a Syrah blend. Taste is overpowered by tobacco and licorice. If there is any fruitiness it does not come to the forefront. A decent cdr but not unforgettable. Went well with grilled salmon, with Cajun rub.

Nose of dark berries, ripe plum, some smoke, tar and liquorice, a hint of animal notes, and a slight sweetish overall impression. Medium bodied, good fruit concentration of fruit in the form of blackberries and dark plums with just some sweetness to the palate, some spice, some tannins but of a rather polished nature, good acidity that adds some freshness, quite well hidden alcohol for a Southern Rhône wine. Ready to drink, but will keep for a number of years. I'd say it has improved over the last year.
As usual in excellent Southern Rhône vintages, this wine provides excellent value for money. Since it is a Syrah-dominated wine (50% in this vintage) with a substantial minority of Grenache (40%), it is more "Crozes-Hermitage-like" than most other Côtes du Rhônes, although with a bit more sweetness and softer tannins than 100% Syrah wine, and less in need of cellaring to peak.

After almost five years, this bottle is perfectly ready. Colour is showing those first signs of maturity. Expressive nose for a generic CdR and smooth on the palate, a reflection of the vintage. I liked pairing a pepperoni pizza at Gettysburg. Btw, may I mention that Domino's is slepering its legendary quality?

Most 2007 Rhones are wonderful wines. This particular one is not one of my favorites, especially since it is priced higher ($23 Canadian - yes we get screwed in Canada) than some better ones (and higher than some very good CdR Villages labels). I found it to be very acidic and rough around the edges. There is a good fruit vibe going on, but the acidity and tannins take away from it. Not a bad wine, there are simply better examples below $23.

For me, this is the ultimate value play. Weighing in at $10 this heavy weight Syrah blend delivers some big and powerful, yet smooth punches. It's all here: great dark berry aromas, rich on the palate with hints of vanilla, lots of spice, and more dark fruit, all of it held together by silky tannins. Producing this type of quality wine at this quantity is no small feat.

Essentially the same as 12/7 and I continue to enjoy this. I think my favorite aspect is that even at its price and (lower) pedigree it gives you a sense of place. Blind and even unconscious you'd know this isn't an Oregon Pinot or a Cal Cab or a Washington Merlot or a Chianti or...etc (may be some overlap w/ certain Spanish Garnachas, but...). So for $14 (or less according to some notes!) you can come home after work and "travel" to the Southern Rhone for an hour or two. I EXPECT that with more serious wines and am pleased when it's < $20 for the "trip"!

Like the previous bottle, this was incredibly bitter the first day, like drinking earwax. Is this mannite, or is the acid over the top? Instead of throwing it out, I let it sit over night. On the second night, hints of bitterness remained, but a core of dark fruits made it drinkable and even somewhat enjoyable. Since I assume this is flawed, no score.

Medium bodied. Red fruit forward, not getting any other major notes with it. Long, astringent finish. Decent QPR but about what you would expect for a sub $20.

Consistent with prior notes and better with 1+ hours of air - for first hour or so, a little rubbery element on the nose (but not palate) - didn't bother me but some might not appreciate! As prior taster(s) noted - great house wine. Will buy more. 90+/-

I liked this a lot for the price ($14). Red > black fruit and some earth/ spice on a nice texture w/ decent acidity/ freshness and tannins. Could be your "house wine" for quite a while if you do such a thing!

No notes taken, but this showed really well. Great nose of red fruit and dried herbs. Great texture and expansive flavors. Perfect balance. Maybe a touch simple, but really, really nice for a wine at this price point.

Needs aeration as it opens up with too much oak and fresh fruit. It becomes better with air, showing notes of cherries, herbs, and licorice. The nose is very subtle, though. The palate is fresh, with ripe tannins and acidity on the high side, but still pleasant. The finish is medium, with mostly tones of fruit and herbs. Drink from 2011 and until 2013.

Drank a single glass in the hotel executive lounge for happy hour. Bright attractive semi-transparent blood red colour. Nose is subdued but quite a lot of new oak and lots of ripe black fruit. Palate is fresh, well-delinated ripe red and black cherry with drying but well-proportioned tannin on the back end. A bit hot from too much alcohol so would benefit from robust food like Beouf Bourgignon. Enjoyable and has a very clean, bright, precise character that is the hallmark of a lowly appelation interpreted by a master winemaker. This punches well above its weight and is great QPR for everyday drinking.

Toujours fiable ! Excellent pour le prix et dans un grand millésime, déploit de franc arômes épicés de grenache et de fruits rouges et de violettes de syrah. Finale franche, fraîche, et fruitée relativement courte mais savoureuse. Impec !

Popped and poured, allowed to open up in the glass for 20 mins. I definitely get the strawberry that others find on the nose and the palate. A very enjoyable medium bodied wine for weekday quaffing, good value, I'll get more for easy drinking.

As good as a "good" wine ever gets. Nose has strawberries and old apples. Taste also. Slightly acidic wine with no surprises in either way and fairly good concentration for what it is. One of the better "reference wines" we've had at a tasting. (Winetasting dinner w Mikael, Johan, Mats, Jonathan n wives; my Swe place)

NIce wine. A Great QPR. Nose of Cherries and strawberries. On the palate the acidity works well with food, and the tannins are not overbearing at all. A nice tart cherry/peppery finish is nice.

This continues to improve with age. Tannins continue to integrate and the fruit is really showing now, but not as dense as last year when released. Amazing qpr. I think I paid under $10! Compares favorably with many $15-20 2007 CdRs that I've had.

Nice bottle. Slight hint of pungency which I find in old world wine. $12, I'll be buying more of these. Was dipping an appetizer into a vinegar based sauce and this softened the Guigal into a very pleasing experience. The wife is advocating for a case of this stuff.

Very dark purple in color, only slightly fades at the edge. I get chocolate and ripe plums on the nose. There is a definite gravely minerality in the background as well. Spice. Then on the palate, black fruits, and that mocha flavor again. A little thin on the mid palate. A very slight astringency to the tannins, with a medium-short finish. Overall a really nice WFTM. Should drink well over the next few years. Great with beef stew tonite.

This to me is coming across as a nice, run of the mill solid red wine. I don't think I could peg it as a southern Rhone wine blind. Notes of red cherry and red currant on the nose and palate along with light tannins. Not too complex but balanced. Hard to complain for $10, just not wowing me.

Bright cherry color. A bit shy nose of redberries, liquor, blackberries. Fresh red fruit on palate, meat, medium acidity, medium bodied, easy to drink, velvety without any hard edges. A bit short finish. A simple wine that drinks wonderful.

Smells typical Cotes du Rhone. Rather meaty and spicy than fruity. Grilled meats, game on the nose with rosemary, Mediterranean herbs, licorice, and some dark fruits like blackberry, black cherry. Cooked beef is there, definitely. Medium bodied and dry with restrained acidity, balanced tannins; it's structure is just as typical than it's aromas. Pleasant, but not great. Drink now. 86-87

Have had several bottles of this over the past several months. Since I bought bottles on many separate occasions, I've noticed quite a bit of bottle/lot variation. Some bottles wowed me considering the price, others have been flat and uninteresting, or outright sharp. Guessing that Guigal has not mastered blending and bottling their high volume production wines. Perhaps it's more the fault of the distributor or retailer (improper transport or storage). But, for the price, it's worth the gamble that you'll get a good bottle. We'll see how the 2009s turn out.

Lovely brick red color with aromas of rhubarb, white pepper, black pepper, cardamom, and subtle notes of vanilla cherry cola. Medium body and juicy with great acidity. Flavors of strawberries and cherries are well integrated with elegant spices overlaying a canvas of the earth. This is a wine I can drink every day, but complex enough to take some moments to ponder its evocative qualities.

On the nose are very sweet black cherries, with perhaps a floral element peaking through. Despite the sweet nose, the same black cherry fruit seems more fresh and is joined by flavors of lavender and pepper. The wine is balanced and very food friendly; the tannins are present, yet surprisingly fine, and the acidity gives the fruit freshness and definition. A really good wine, with good balance and complexity for its pedigree.

Brick colored bordering on purple. This bottle was less onerous than the last I remember. More granache-like and less syrah like, it was fruity but still had that earthy forest nose bordering on brett. Tannins seem less pronounced and the brett seems to diffuse after the first hour. But still not seeing the love that others have for this one.

Was a very tasty explosive wine. Both my girlfiend and I tasted purple -as funny as that sounds... plum, raspberries, cherry and chocolate all blended together- what a little too sharp. A good amount of acid as well and a little spice and pepper. Over a very tasty CdR for a great price of $12.

Drank over two nights. The first night revealed strong elements of crushed berries, with a bit of pepper on the end. By the second night the fruit profile had died down to reveal stronger elements of roast meat and garrigue. Well-structured enough to last a few more years. Of the 07 CdRs I've enjoyed, this one has the best QPR.

Starts off slow with the palate lagging the promise of the nose. After an 1/2 hour though the thinness and astringency on the palate abates and a satisfying cdr emerges, albeit not one that at this point of it's evolution is a qpr. I'm left wondering whether this will have the legs to last for another 4-5 more years as it seems to have the structure to do just that. It would be unusual as Guigal cdr's generally drink well for no more than 4-5 years.

One of the better CdR that I've had; rivals much more expensive wines. nose of chocolate and plum with hints of cherry; taste is initially mineral, then berries and then a veritable explosion of black pepper and spice with a bit of alcohol. The tannins are strong and add to the pleasure. The first night this was paired with pasta and did exceptionally well. The 2nd night was with a sandwich and it was good, but not quite as good a pairing. I noted that this review and the 74 other reviews used quite different terms to describe the nose and the taste -- interesting -- it really shows how difficult it is to pin down what makes a wine work for one person or another. Of the other CdR that I've tasted this is clearly a standout and for the price an excellent one. So, from an individual view, this is a good candidate for a 'weekday' or 'everyday' type red.

Dark purple. Aroma of cherry and other dark fruits. Medium body. Cherry, raspberry and pepper on the palate. Tannins fairly strong giving it a bit of a sharp aftertaste. A bit too sharp for my taste, I will try it again in a year to see if it has mellowed a bit. My wife reacts to sulphites/something in certain wines and she DID react to this bottle.

Quite good QPR, solid, down the middle CdR with more ripeness than usual (owing to the vintage?). Nose has dark fruit, some herbal and tar tones, and smoked meat. Dark fruit and some higher notes (raspberry) on the palate, medium body, modest tannins, decent finish.

Auditions for red daily drinkers!. Caramel on the nose, butterscocth with bitter cherry palate and black pepper finish (not bad like it might sound). This is definitely a candidate for a place in the rotation at the $11 price point. Just a little too sweet and simple for my taste.

Appearance: Clear, deep ruby color with paler rims and legs Nose: Clean, medium and developing aromas of red cherry, strawberry, vegetal, smoke and sweet spice. One of the best wines for showing that $$ and quality aren't always related. Better than many many $20 or $30 wines. A very well-balanced CdR. No heavy Syrah notes and yet enough other elements to mellow out the Grenache very nicely. Surprisingly strong tannins, which I enjoyed.

Rubis-pourpre. Couleur peu profonde. Nez: bonbon (laissant présager une macération carbonique d'une partie de la récolte), fraise, mûre et chêne. Bouche: Manque quelque peu d'acidité. Second bottle as good as the first. Exceptional flavor profile of dark black fruit, mocha, smoke, currant, cassis, spice, licorice. Bold legs, medium purple to the rim, full mouth feel, subtle savory feeling on the palate with lingering spicy finish and gripping tannins which is somewhat different than first bottle but I ensured this one was chilled. Worth every bit of the QPR. Will be buying more this week.

Dark in color to the rim. Good legs, nose of cassis, mocha, chocolate, earth, dark fruit. I have often been told that too many times people drink their red wine too warm. This wine is a perfect example. At first at room temp (Texas 76) the wine had NO character, etc. Chilled down to 60-63 F and the fruit exploded, blackberries, currant. The wine develped with great balance and character. Again while all the flavors were there the chocolate mocha and black fruit dominated nicely. Smooth tannins and just enough acidity and a smooth but somewhat short finish.

Typical smokiness and perhaps currants on the nose. The wine is medium bodied with mild tannins and a moderate 5-10 second finish. I didn't find it to be particularly adventurous on the palate in terms of fruit or other flavors, primarily just dry, but Guigal is a fairly safe buy for a CDR.

Year on year an excellent wine for the price - the 07 is a touch richer and sweeter than previous vintages with the heaviness of the fruit being much more pronounced than the 2006. Nevertheless what you get is depth, complexity and a wine that never feels overdone. A brilliant sub-£10 wine.

Great wine for the price. Good example of a Grenache and Syrah Rhone blend, with a bit of Mouvedre to add the earthy, spicy, and savory notes. Did notice inconsistencies from a couple of bottles, but it is expected given the sheer volume of production.

Dark purple with a nose of forest floor. Strong tannin, not quite balanced with the acidity. Fairly long finish, but lacks any particular note, except black pepper/mild capsaicin. Probably has some time to develop, and suspect the mellowness of age will help this.

I normally enjoy Guigal's offerings, but this wine drifts all over the roadway, IMHO, lacking a true center. It goes from fruit driven and lovely at one moment to hot and alcoholic the next. Ripe. Nice heft, with tar, licorice and pomegranate on the palate but very little expression in the nose. Label claims 14% alcohol, but I'd guess a point or two higher. Will hold onto the other bottles for another year. Drink 2012 - 2013.

Like other 07 Rhones - ripe, lush and soft compared to other more structured vintages. Still purple colour and a peppery nose. No tannin showing in the mouth, peppery red fruit, dark and a touch of youthful bitterness on the finish. Still very primary - should do well over the medium term.

This wine was splash-decanted and serially tasted over three hours. Deep-to-opaque purple/ruby robe. Clean nose, showing moderately intense aromas of black cherries, garrigue and camphor. Medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, with low-to-medium acidity and medium silky tannins. The flavors are black fruit and licorice-dominated. The middle is solid and the medium-length finish is fairly smooth. This is a very nice, Syrah-dominated Côtes du Rhône which is, like many '07s, an excellent value. Drink now-12/14.

Consistent with my previous note, if not better. While this wine won't bowl you over, it's one of the better sub-$15 bottles I've had. It's wonderfully ready for a wide variety of foods, as its medium-bodied fruit enhances everything from meats to cheeses (which is what we paired it with - aged gruyere & a fantastic Gallego). Great woody finish ends each sip on a high note. As long as I can keep finding this wine locally I'll be buying more.

P&P. Color not noted. Bouquet of dark plum, animal notes, herbs, and charcoal. On the palate, roasted plum, blackberries, meaty notes, herbs, and charcoal ending with hints of licorice snap. Dark ruby color. Somewhat reticent aromas of ripe raspberry and cherry, black pepper, nutmeg, and an iron-mineral component. Well balanced palate: good spice on the front palate, solid fruit in the mid palate, and a return of the spice accompanied by the iron-mineral note on the lengthy finish. Drink now or will improve for 1-2 years. Note: some time in the glass revealed dark chocolate and fennel notes. Very solid QPR.

Full ruby color. Pretty nose: sweet strawberry and black plum fruit with damp leaves, mulling spices, iron, and a hint of truffle. Medium body on the palate: loads of ripe strawberry and plum with dried herbs, peppercorn, some hot cinnamon candy, and a beautiful dusty/metallic mineral streak. Nicely focused acidity. Moderate herbaceous tannins. Lingering herbs and minerals on the moderate/long dry finish. Best Guigal CdR yet. Awesome value.

Pepper element dominant on the nose, some sweet briary fruit. Same follows through on palate, finishing with slightly grippy but inoffensive tannins. Likely by the time the tannins mellow, the acid and fruit will be a bit faded. Could make it a couple years though. Enough juicy fruit to understand why it gets a Parker 90. Medium bodied, which is nice.
Still. At $11, a remarkably drinkable and food-pairable-with wine, considering what one would get out of, say, California at the same price.

Drink up.

A really good wine, with good balance and complexity for its pedigree.

the structure to do just that.
