Deep maroon and a garnet youthful rim still. Dark red fruit with a little barnyard undertone on the nose. Some minty liquorice as well. A beautiful silky mouthfeel opens to a baked berry compote and strawberry jam. While almost at perfect equilibrium of constituents, the wine is still young with lively tanin. Many years still to go. Excellent and full bodied.

Still an adolescent but it’s beginning to show its potential. Old World perfume of dark fruit, black cherries, pastille, and a budding forest in the spring. The palate is confident, structured, and very elegant, with silky, black raspberry liqueur wreathed in perfectly integrated oak. Finishes long, generous, and complex. Lots of upside.

Deep red color, vegetal nose, Forest floor, mushroom, that all carries through on the palate. Soft tannins, medium finish. Full body. Overall not impressed. The vegetal notes are too much with out the fruit to balance it.

Tasted the Pichon Lalande 2003 alongside the Shafter One Point Five from 2008 and Cakebread 2009. The Pichon was more fragrant with more finesse, the Shafer more powerful and fruit forward and the Cakebread somewhere in between. People voted in different ways with the overall view that "all three were equally lovely but different"

Outstanding showing, incredible nose of violets, Bing cherry, fresh sliced strawberries . The palate was almost as impressive as the nose, with outstanding balance between fruit, acid and minerals, totally intigrated tannins. I rarely rate any wine much higher than a 93 and this rating might be an understatement, yum!

Drank with friends at Andria's restaurant in Edwardsville, IL. Paired with Escargot, Filet Mignon, Tuna and NY Strip. POP and the wine complimented the red meat very well. Smooth finish and did not overpower, even the Tuna. Really enjoyed drinking it over a couple hours and seems to be right in its drinking window right now. Probably has 5 good years left before it would start to decline.

Deep garnet color turning violet/crimson at the rim. The nose is perfumed evoking dark purple fruits, herbs, spices and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied with a velvety texture. Flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, licorice, smoked oak. This is just delicious, supple, and delectable. Big on fruit and alcohol, but not over the top. Acidity is vibrant. Finishes with hints of meat, rosemary and sage. Another brilliant showing from Cakebread. Drink now until 2024.

Bought a case of this 18 months ago and tried a bottle right after purchase. Really, really dissapointing at the time. After laying it down for 18 months -- this wine has done a huge tunraround. Much more approachable with strong oak, smoke and berries. Probably still two years from its prime -- expecting good things and leaving my other bottles right where they are!

This is a good wine but does not have a nose that demands attention or much depth and complexity. More dark fruit than any other noticeable feature as the finish is short. For the price there are much better options.

People love cakebread and it's been a while since I've had this so I ordered it last night. Honestly it is such a disappointment. My enjoyed it more. The nose was nice with some plum & black cherry & hints of chocolate. This was so light and delicate on the palate. The tannins were so soft and subtle it didn't allow this wine to fill out. It paired well with dinner but lacked depth & concentration. The finish was lackluster & the acidity was about the only thing on point. Good not great. Again I like big massive complex cabs and this is not one.

It's been a while since I popped a good 'ol bottle of Cakebread. And this one reminded why it's one of my favorites. The most pronounced features of this bottle were the hints of oak in the background - as if you were enjoying it in the Cakebread cellar itself. A really well balanced affair and quite delicious.

Opened at the table. In the glass: Dark garnet, long slow legs. On the nose: Tart cherries, floral notes, light cassis, light spice. In the mouth: Medium mouth feel, tart cherries on the tongue, a bit of dry tannins, weenzy bit of bitter on the finish. Just a bit too tart for a cab in my opinion. Otherwise nice.

In spite of my opinion that Cakebread is both over priced and overrated, I have to reluctantly admit that they always produce a consistent high quality product in much the same vein as Caymus. Always a crowd pleaser, and a choice you know you can't go wrong with for a special occasion with family, friends or professional associates. Full bodied, showing smokey dark berries, red plums, sweet vanilla-oak, and smooth well integrated tannins. As usual, a bit extracted for my tastes but still well within my "tolerable" range; not in the least bit complex. Satisfying finish.

Sure, it's overpriced, but it's still very tasty and an excellent example of Napa Cabernet. Rich, concentrated dark fruit, blue- and blackberry compote, red and black licorice, mesquite, BBQ sauce, even fig aromas which carry over to the palate. Quite expressive for a young wine; full-bodied but tight palate has plenty of greenish tannins and firm acidity, but it can't hold back all the fruit in this wine. Needs a few years to relax and should be peaking around 2018-2023.

Attended cakebread dinner at fromagerie in rumson. Had a glass served with siy-honey roasted duck, duck sausage stuffed cabbage, pickled gooseberries, parsnip huckleberry jus. The wine held up well to the food but I enjoyed it a bit more on it's own. Kobrsnd rep explained that the wine is 85% cab with the remainder made up of Merlot, malbec and petit verdot. The wine is still young with prominent tannins. But, fruit comes through and shows great development potential. Legs coat the glass.
