[Blind] Consistent to the 01/26/2022 note, same source. Remarkably integrated and resolved. Guesses were late '90s. Black teas and soft black fruit. Gorgeous Vosne perfume, highly expressive. Would never guess 2010, the wood is basically all gone.

Drank last nite w/HA & friend at Manhatta. Unsure if I'd ever had this wine b4. Reviewed several of the CT notes &, unfortunately, tho I enjoyed this wine, I can't ascribe the same superlatives as many others did. Decanted for appx an hour at the table. Nose is prototypical red burg: earthy, wood spice, some forest floor and perhaps even some dirty socks. Light to medium body, with some red fruit notes, earth, some spice, & fully resolved tannins. The wine didn't strike me as overly complex, and seemed a bit off-balance--perhaps bc the fruit is fading, and there's more spice and earth on the palate as a result. Pleasantly long finish. Liked, didn't love this wine.

Collector's kindly shared magnum. Great to have CT as I would never have remembered that I had this Clos Vougeot already 7 years ago. Very pretty and fragrant nose with wood spices and plenty of earth, the palate cannot measure up entirely, initially with plenty of residual CO2 and to my surprise (given this is a 2010 in magnum format) fully resolved tannins, light to medium body. Overall nice on the palate but not aromatically profound or complex. Medium length. Nose 94, palate 92

[Blind] Ripe and opulent/ Youthful with robust black cherry fruit but already easily accessible and approachable. Nice spice and stems here. Lifted aromatics and style, quote showy. Powerful but completely drinkable / enjoyable right now. Somewhat sappy fruit. Oak stamp is integrating well. Thoroughly enjoyed this, would buy. 93 - 94.

Red clear brick. The nose, precise and expansive, has magnificent aromas of dark fruits, spices and forest floor. There is very fine mid palate density, displaying earthy and dark berry pinot flavors, with wonderful sweetness and fine grain tannins that fans out in a long, complex and balanced finish. This is an opulent Clos de Vougeot, just rightfully extracted to make a hedonistic experience, without the rustic tannins typical of many other producers of CDV. Very good winemaking choices, very well made. At maturity now.

Another bottle, another very good showing, another seeping cork. This bottle opened three hours before consumption to slow ox which was needed. A deep autumnal bouquet with hints of iron and game, good fruit concentration, slightly stemmy on the nose. Nice Burg.

Clos Vougeot - Ech/Grand-Ech Side Tasting (Chicago): 05/10. So much going on aromatically -- big, forward fruit that is earthy and spicy. Really engaging nose. Palate is similarly appealing with fruit that shows mature, complete and complex. Still sweet and candied fruit that has layers of earth, herb, and spice complexity. Perhaps a bit ahead of schedule given the soaked cork, but darn good regardless.

Clos Vougeot (Grands-Echezeaux / Southwest-side) Tasting (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Alongside the 2005. Mature red and black cherry throughout, showing both fresh and macerated fruit. Some meaty notes and sweet spice provide enchanting support. Fairly mature for its age. Another Hudelot-Noellat 2010 with a poor cork, this was certainly enticing and enjoyable, but not worth the risk of cellaring any longer.

As with many 2010 Hudelot wines, this was a leaker I found while rummaging through my storage locker. Second one out of three, argh. So time to open it, and might as well be a nice occasion - anniversary trip to Carmel, and a particularly meaningful one, as it's the last place we'll go before Covid shutdown the following week.
Good color, even though cork is stained up through the capsule, no apparent signs of oxidation or advanced development. Beautiful deeply flavored medium cherry, just a hint of spice, perfectly balanced, very youthful, and flat out delicious now. In retrospect, probably didn't need to open it, but also didn't regret it.

Thought this would be too young, but what the heck, thought I would take it out for a spin. Amazing nose - sappy red fruit, amazing mineral core (that one can smell and taste), great concentration and such refinement. This was so young but already so good. And one could tell that it was holding quite a bit in reserve... much better than the 03 version from the night before.

Third bottle of a case and the first bottle where the cork was quasi fully intact (only small evidence of cork soaking at the very bottom only). The wine itself was (logically) quite a lot more youthful than prior experiences. Quite crunchy and sappy red fruit. Good structure and energy. This bottle would have benefited from another 5-10 years in bottle. But then the risk seems too high to wait on these. The bottle drank nicely still with around an hour decant.

Blind "Grand Cru" with Lobster & Flannery Steak (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Plenty of all red fruit with spice and earth in very good harmony. Good density, but simultaneously showing charming weightless textures I really enjoyed. Great nose, good+ flavors. Another 2010 Hudelot-Noellat with its cork fully soaked through, so also a wine to enjoy on the younger side for Grand Cru from a great vintage.

"Grand cru" blinds (Chicago, IL): Gorgeous wine (though the story is that this had a very soaked cork and smelled really off upon opening). There was no problem here -- the nose shows a beautifully perfumed array of red fruit and a very slight mushroom tone. Light and airy on the palate, with a hint of strawberry, this has an ethereal quality, though it's certainly not lacking in complexity or concentration.

Unfortunately what has been said about 2010 HN corks seeping is true. This one was already low fill for being so young and the cork was soaked till the top and smelled madereized from the outside and foil was bulging up/out. Fortunately what has been said about the wine‘s quality is true too though. It is a terrific Clos de Vougeot. Double decanted it was good from the get go but best at 1.5 hours. Then the nose showed electric notes of Vosne spice, red fruits, very fine - the palate with super minerality at that stage (best not too warm), sour cherry which initially has a tight grip but resolved in a fantastic mineral sweetness. Very good stuff which luckily is drinking already and one can only assume that the seeping cork is speeding up the aging process accordingly as it facilitates more oxigen to get in touch with the wine. So this is on a fast track and given the state of the cork I wouldn’t bet on this to survive post 2025. Sadly I recommend to simply drink them up which is what I will do with my remaining 11 bottles over the coming 2 years.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Vougeot (Overgaauw Wine Estate): (Tasted Blind): A light to mid garnet going towards a mahogany brown edge. The nose has some evolution with savoury, earthy and meat stock qualities. However, the fruit has ripe stewed plums, red fruits, and strawberries. Quite a pretty nose with that more mature bouquet. A rich and succulent entry it is more full-bodied than I expected and is balanced by a crisp mineral-edged acidity. There is still toasty oak, despite its mature qualities and the core is filled with blackberry, red berry, and raspberry and a meatiness. Gravelly yet sweet tannins, the wine is fairly long and layered with complex nuances. Excellant concentration if lacking any grace and flair.

Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): While I can't say that this was shut down, it's not the most open 2010 that I've had. It's classic HN style, with the crunchy red fruit and prominent acids. The power seems to be hidden a bit by the youth, and this didn't budge significantly over the course of the dinner. A slight earthy element on the palate gives a hint as to where this comes from.

The past few 2010 H-N's I've opened had a subtle but very noticeable tanginess to them. This was no exception, although subdued and it mostly blew off after an hour. At the far end of the red berry fruit spectrum -- very silky, classy wine without any rough edges. Have yet to have a shut-down 2010 H-N. Very nice bottle. And yes, the cork was almost fully saturated although not full-on seeping.
Red berries, sources, a little bit of brett and some funk on the nose. Cherries, red fruit, medium+ tannins on the palate. Good structure and very nice balance. Great finish!

This starts off with a distinctly raspberry nose, accented by thyme - certainly very elegant and light-ish but not what one might expect from a Clos Vougeot (rather the opposite, actually). But with an hour of air, this undergoes a metamorphosis - from an airy raspberry nose to a dense, black-cherry-packed, potent, more typically CV-like nose. A fascinating time to catch the 2010s, which are obviously about potential rather than fulfillment. Don't expect to find a mature CV, but it's instructive to catch one now.

The level of this not as bad as some past bottles, but they're definitely seeping and it seems as well to catch them now for their gorgeous voluptuous red fruits. This was a real beauty, like all the previous bottles.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Popped and poured. Reductive start with red berries, savory spice and floral hints. Reduction masking some of the full savory character, but impressive concentration I would consider to have 92 point potential.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): I've heard stories of the brilliance of 2010 Hudelot, and this bottle lives up to the hype for sure. The nose shows more concentrated red fruit, with some amazing freshness. There is a little bit of oak on the palate, but there's lovely concentration here. The fruit is intense and just delicious. Give this time.

Medium light garnet. I had this wine now 3 times in the last few months. Fantastic showing every time but before we come to it, let me comment on the corkage problem that was reported on this site for the 2010. I had 1 bottle weeping and 2 corks looked more like from a 1995 Burgundy and not from a 2010, no good sign for aging. Some internet blogs suggest that they screwed up with the fill level. Tasting note: This wine is a stunner. Expressive and highly aromatic nose around bright red fruit intermixed with CdV earthy, smoke and whole cluster, animal notes, really great. Medium-light bodied, elegant on the palate with fine tannins buffering the fruit, sappy. Very good length. A texbook, elegant Clos de Vougeot start to finish.

A dinner with friends at home: Not leaking but not a great cork either for such a young bottle with about 1/3 already soaked. Great wine though. Herbs and smoke joining the red and dark fruits on the palate, silky smooth with completely integrated tannins. Long finish.

The bottle had a leaking cork like what everyone else has experienced; why? What would cause that to happen so consistently across the bottling? Inside the bottle, the wine was fine; the aromatics really started to blossom more after being open for 45-60 minutes; aromas of black cherry and dried flowers; some forest and other complexity starting to come through with more aeration; no funk or odd aromas - very clean; on the palate it is beautifully balanced, elegant and finessed; there is a tart/sourness to the cherry flavors, but not in a bad way; no harsh angles or tannins; this was a nice wine, but I don't know that it warrants much above 92-93 points

Mild to moderate funk, red fruits on the nose. A little sour, tart red fruit on the palate. Medium, to medium plus acidity, still with sourness/spritz on the palate. Noticed there was some fine sediment on the glass. Good wall of tannin toward the back, comes together well on the finale. Shows nice freshness, though maybe a touch sour, with hints of grand Cru pedigree, but this showed signs of leaking, which is why it was opened young.

Expressive nose of black cherry and cranberry fruit. Medium freshness to the fruit on the palate, with very nice depth, spice, and medium to rich viscosity. There is some oak tannin to resolve, though 1-2 hours air helps tremendously. Finishes with good power and fruit concentration, and with medium plus length.
Ideally this bottle would've been opened in 2025 or so, however I noticed seepage in the cellar, being aware that H-N 2010's have issues. This Clos Vougeot did show a bit advanced as a result, with the fruit slightly stewed. Will continue to check on the rest of my lot, but happy with the results tonight.

Opened, because the cork was weeping, but no sign of deterioration here. Extraordinarily vivid red fruit, and that spicy, menthol streak that these 2010s seem to have. This is sensational.

Focus on 2010 Burgundy- The 2013 La Paulee Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Slightly bigger than the Suchots. Deep black fruit and a strong thread of soil. The earthiest and most tannic of the Hudelot wines and a bit more rough and tumble than the Eugenie Clos Vougeot. Truly excellent but may not turn out to be quite as good in its class as the Suchots.

Knockout nose, very beautiful with medium density and depth, and nicely succulent, juicy black fruits. Love the intensity here. There is a question of reduction on all these Hudelot-Noellat 2010s, we'll see.

I am surprised to find myself describing a young Clos de Vougeot as a stunner, but this is stunning! Hudelot's and Grivot's Vougeots really are on a roll at the moment. The bouquet is effusive, complex and packed with all kinds of ripe red fruits combined with, unusually, slight floral undertones. On the palate it's complex with lots of earth and mineral flavours combined with a fruity richness and outstanding freshness and balance. Young Clos de Vougeots are often a little austere and unyielding, but not this one. Utterly superb and worth every penny. Estimated maturity: 2020+

Bevuto al ristorante duomo di Alba. Ancora giovane ma già potabile. Da grandi soddisfazioni ma ne darà di più tra 5 anni.

Another seeping cork. Very pretty wine with bright fruit and some development. Very much open for business. Only nit is a strong streak of acidity, similar to a recent '10 H-N Murgers.

Sadly cork wet through . Lot of leakage through the lead covering of the cork. Nose ok but wine dry and lacking ' life '. A couple of other bottles ( though not all ) displaying similar leakage issues

The corks are seeping and the level is down to the shoulder, but the wine is sensational - piercing menthol fragrance, sap, and a million layers of flavour. Both bottles stunning.
