  • Dinner with Monthly Group at Absinthe (Absinthe, Boat Quay): This was really lovely - as pretty a Puligny as you will ever get, and drinking really well in its youth too. It had beautiful nose, with pretty white flowers, lemony scents, sweet apple flesh and musky melons, all patted down with a whiff of earth. The palate was lovely too, with little bits of fragrant white musk and spice floating around a core of pure apple flavours and some supple, lemony acidity. It admittedly did not have the greatest depth - this was clearly from a middle-of-pile 1er Cru rather than one of the top vineyards - but it was just about perfectly balanced and integrated, making for a really elegant, pretty expression. Nice long finish, with lemony flavours kissed by a touch of spice and mineral. Lovely. I doubt that this will be the longest aging wine, but it is a real gem. Great pairing with a lobster dish too.

  • Lunch at Dezato (Dezato, Jalan Telok): Second bottle in a short span of time, and although this had been opened overnight and was perhaps a tad weaker than the last bottle, it was still a really accomplished Puligny. It had a nice, pretty nose, with little aromas of sweet cream and chalk, along with subtle white fruit, sweeter red apple aromas and flowery perfume. Gently expressive and very inviting. The palate was as beautiful poised and balanced as I remembered it, with the same bright freshness to its delicious flavours of slightly sweet green apples and ripe lemons with a little dollop of creme fraiche. The finish was micely lined with a nice stony minerality and crowned by a halo of white flowers, all nicely integrated and held with a beautiful sense of focus and balance. A delicious, but also a really subtle one - it was so easy to drink and such a pleasure that it would be easy to miss just how well put together the whole package was.

  • Meet the man - Nicolas Potel (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck @ Paragon): Alcohol :: 13%
A bit too cold hence the aromas is quite restraint: mineral, lemon, gun flint and light hint of lemon. Medium bodied. Creamy entry and getting lusher toward the mid palate but also lacks a bit of focus. Quite tasty though, with sweet lemon and mineral aftertaste, quite long. This should be drink well after release with short term of bottle ageing.

  • Sitting on the border with Meursault-Blagny. The unmistakable aromas of a Puligny soars from the glass in a melange of white fruits, some resin and sweet ripe pears. On the relatively light-bodied juicy citrus palate, the intense flavors are balanced perfectly with clean acidity, a silky texture and purity of the terroir and ending with a decent length. Quite elegant without too much acidity poking out. A lovely example of a Puligny 1er though not necessarily a distinguished one.

  • 2010 Maison Roche de Bellene / Nicolas Potel Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): This was absolutely lovely - a tremendous step-up from the 2009 that we had last year. It had an absolutely beautiful nose, bursting with floral perfume and peachy stone fruit with a little tropical lychee lift at the edge. A really seductive bouquet. With time a little drift of lanolin and minerality started creeping in as well, adding a touch of complexity to the sweetly perfumed bouquet. The palate was very expressive too, with mouthfilling flavours of peach and nectarine and more perfumy notes of flowers and lychee - almost like a Gewurztraminer or Viognier in its flowery, tropical perfume. Delicious, seductive, feminine stuff, augmented by a wonderful silky balance that wrapped the palate from head to toe. I found this to be an extremely graceful wine, complete and wonderfully integrated even in its extreme youth. The finish was neither the longest, not the most powerful, but it too was finely shaped and very elegant, opening up with time to fill the back-palate with stony, minerally accents. This was a beautiful expression of Puligny. A very pretty wine that is well worth seeking out.
