Bottle 1435/1938. Coming off a Romanee 06 which had been opened the day before this was aromatically a step back. But that’s not to say this was pedestrian, not at all. Superbly symmetrical, glowing blue and red fruits, emerging spice, sweet sandlewood, superb sap drinking middle of the fairway which might sound harsh but it was “just” an awesome bottle of Pinot, simple as.

Side by side the 09 and 12. Qualitatively all on a very high par. The 2010 was remarkable for its seamlessness, symmetry and precision. Liquid cashmere in a glass. A brilliant classic 2010 red Burg where there was nothing too little and nothing in excess either. I liked this 10 Eche better than a 10 Reignots I had 3 years ago. Very good now already but probably the best still years ahead.

Lovely aromatics with red fruit, spice, and purple flower. Strong core fruit on the palate which slowly unfurls in the glass. It is feminine and transperent. Good contrast against the more masculine 09 DRC GE on the side.

Tight, dense, powerful and linear. There’s marvellous fruit here but its wrapped up like Tutankhamen for now. With air you get notes of aniseed and length of flavour is seriously long. Should be brilliant in a decade or two.

cp 50 (Gentofte): Tight, dense, turbo-pinot for consenting adults; oh dear, this goes on and on, very enjoyable infanticide, forgive me, for I have sinned.

Here the oak was completely dominant for almost 2 hours. Then it disappeared and left a wine, that posses elegance and concentration. Leaning to the dark side, but with a lift of raspberries. The palate is firm and elegant. Persistence, but not at all ready. This will be a great wine

France 2013 - Côte d'Or; 4/20/2013-4/23/2013 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. From half bottle. Intoxicating and pure nose of raspberry, cherry and leather. Pure, soft and silky in the mouth with a, velvety and minerally texture. There’s a richness to this but there ample acidity and energy that adds plenty of freshness. Tannins are powdery and sweet. Like the Reignots, this needs 10-20 years, and has a ton of potential. Outstanding. 93+

Ruby. Rich nose of smoke, strawberry and vanilla - actually quite fruit-driven. Spicy red fruit on the palate too. Medium+ acidity and fairly robust tannins. This is fermented without stems.

La Paulée de New York 2013 Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion, New York): Lost my notes on the Liger-Belair wines, but I wasn’t bowled over by the lineup (the 2010 Brulees from the Verticals was stunning). The Reignots was clearly showing some reduction, and the Suchots was quite nice. I need to taste more from this producer.

A beauty. Lovely deep black and red fruit with a touch of asian spices. It is very transparent and most of all fresh. Elegance is the word here. Great length. A top wine!

DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/21/2012-3/22/2012 (Maison Champy - Beaune): Wine tasting. Another very impressive 2010 Echezeaux. Great red cherry aromas to start with chocolate, cinnamon and new leather. Great cherry flavors with excellent density and intensity.Well structured and textured. Good spice re-emerges on finish.

Preferred palate to aromatics, but good showing for an inconsistent wine. (545/1938)

Another excellent bottle with similar notes to bottle 6 months ago. So easy to drink right now.

Felt touch cooked aromatically. Surprisingly short on palate. I’d avoid this. (72/188 cases)

Very expressive. Dark red fruit with hints of oak. Incredible finesse. Drinking really well young. Excellent.
