PnP. No rating. Seems like I waited too long to drink this. The fruit has faded, and I find myself being put off by the heavy earth/cola component that has come to the fore. Not as fresh and fruity as when tried in the "tasting room" back in 2012. Lesson learned.

Popped and poured with dinner. Nice bouquet of tea leaf, wild mushroom, white pepper, Christmas spice and cherry fruit. Ripe and aggressive to the palate with black cherry and fig jam along with piney, earthy and herbal depth. Fine and polished in tannin with seemingly good acid and a decent finish, it's just not very graceful or balanced with this tasting. The fruit awkwardly sticks out like a sore thumb. Not how I remembered it, perhaps it just needs some time to mature back into balance.
Day 2- Much improved with the fruit integrating and adding nuances of cedar and sandalwood. Shows balance and elegance. Nice mouthwatering acidity and fine tannin on the finish. (87-90+ over the two days)

Tasted at the winery. Compact aromas of spice, sagebrush, sandalwood and fig. Interesting red notes on the palate- spice, dates, fig and sarsaparilla. Nicely weighted and smooth fine tannins. Full breathy finish.

Initial nose is extremely appealing. This wine showed to be an extremely dark purple (darker) than the other pinots in my impromptu tasting. As mentioned by the other post on this wine, a strong burst of fruit on the nose with a smokey texture and taste to it. This was an extremely pleasing pinot for all the right reasons and would likely be great just to smell sip or could easily pair with some meat. I tasted cherry, raspberry, and some great acidity and a smokey/meaty flavor to it. An exceptional wine off the Sonoma Coast and it should improve over the course of 3-5 years. Just a really well made wine and recommended if you can find it at less than $45 per bottle.

Black cherry color. Pretty nose of black cherry, blackberry, and baking spice. Perhaps a touch more simple than the Ewald at this stage, it's still a tasty, lively Pinot, with tangy cherry fruit and good baking spice. Lively acidity. A-

Sonoma Wine Tasting & San Francisco - March 2012; 3/22/2012-3/27/2012: This wine showed a much darker purple color than the other pinots. A burst of fruit punch on the nose, along with smoke and pipe tobacco. The palate is jammy, but somehow silky at the same time. Cherry pie, raspberry jam flavors and hints of tar and smoke. A slight funkiness glides onto the finish. It's not by any means goopy, but it's not bashful either. A great example of Sonoma Coast pinot, and it will improve for several years.

A bit of a funky nose, but otherwise a fine, lean pinot.
