Very dark purple color. The label describes these as highly ripe estate fruit kept out of the Lytton Springa bottling, and that’s exactly how it reads. Tons of concentrated fruit flavors, bordering on being over-concentrated in a Parker style, but with the integrated oak (after an hour breathing) it holds together. Not sure how this will continue to evolve.

Nicely done. Considering it was made from two varieties that often produce overripe flabby fruit cocktails incapable of aging, this had none of those issues. Graceful for a big wine, with an appealing savory element, and at least a couple more years of quality drinking. I’ve had more than a few cabs with bigger price tags that didn’t hold up as well.

In terms of expression this drank more like a light petit sirah than a Zin blend. The fruit is lush and tasty right now. Still medium tannin. The finish features tart acidity that I usually associate with heavy or less than careful acid additions. It gives the wine sort of a sweet-tart quality. It's a good wine but that quality sets it back a notch for me. Otherwise the fruit is in a great spot now and there is a enough tannin to help along with dinner. In it's window.

Nice medium depth clear ruby. Blueberry, plum, hint of tobacco, and very ripe strawberry on the nose. Palate is smooth and consistent with nose, with a touch of licorice added. Medium weight but nonetheless this is a serious Zin (possibly the Petite Sirah influence) - not heavy or brooding but Beaujolais it isn't. Good finish. Hasn't started fading yet!

My affinity for this wine has declined over the years. It's still tasty and maturing nicely. I'd wager to say it could go longer. Great nose of raspberry and black cherry still shows along with the fruit on the palate. All in all, this is a great $30 wine.

With Margarita pizza. We got a whiff of olives on the cork. Crimson in the glass, good depth but not opaque, color consistent to the rim. Nose had nice fruit, almost sweet, blackberry and a hint of blueberry. Dry, smooth, tannins totally integrated, acid in balance.

The wine has a deep red color with a tinge of orange at the rim. It has a great nose of blackberry fruit. the wine has an almost silky feel to it, except for the tannins stemming from the petit Syrah. It has blackberries, bramble and a hint of mint on the finish. It is another great Ridge Zin.

Bramble on the nose and palate. This wine is fully mature with notes of red currents, bramble, blackberries. I do sense the petit sirah in the blend which gives it more structure.

Blackberry and dried strawberry on the nose, with some leathery notes. It's surprisingly bright in the mouth, raspberries, red currant, and plum. I like it very much, but it could use a little more richness.

This had an outrageous flavor profile. Black cherry, cola, and a good dose of tar on the finish. Not overly tannic. Really enjoyable now. Next in 2014/2015.

The Lytton Estate is, intentionally, a ripe version of the Lytton Springs. As a ripe wine, this works. All things being equal, I'd prefer a Lytton Springs, but this is very good. Well balanced acidity and tannins (at least partially from the Petite Sirah) make this, I think, one of the better ripe ATP wines and I agree with the back label that this could last a few years.

My first experience with Ridge in a very, very long time. This bottle was a bit dumb (or too subtle for me). I expected more focus, so I'm presuming I opened it too soon.

Nice structure and fruit, balanced, well made Zin. Tannins need some time to smooth out, better in 3 to 5 years. Baseline Ridge tastiness here, no worries.

A bit rough and rustic on opening. Became better integrated in the glass with red fruits and baking spice. Tannins are very smooth, making the wine feel quite silky. This might be more of an early drinker, say over the next 5 years. With Carne asada, grilled chicken and other goodies served in a molcajete.

Interesting mushroomy nose along with aromas of cedar. Velvety textured with warm spice notes over red berry jam. Tannins start to sneak in on the moderately long finish. Drinkable now but should probably age a few more years to reach its peak.

Their blend, not the zin. (71% zin). Good drinking window. Full bodied. Very nice deep purple fruit. Nice finish.

If you still have any of this, drink up now. It has it wonderful nose, but is a bit muted on the fruit aspect. Still plenty of depth and tannins.

Wine is really coming into his own. Tannins are structured but soft. Nice fruit flavor but not overly due to the petite sitah balancing the Zin

A little hot and disjointed to merit a higher score. Gave it to my wife for her book club after tasting it.
