Popped and poured. Generic Bordeaux glasses at a restaurant.
This is why I age Setem’s (and others) Sonoma coast Pinot. Gorgeous cherry with black tea, saline, and faded musty faint leather. Great acidity. Terrific showing. Glad I have more.

This was probably close to a superb wine at its peak, and it's still quite excellent on a gracefully aging downslope. Big flavor, certainly, with lots of fruit still showing, but alongside a legitimate darker, spicier, secondary complexity that really completes the package. Texture and palate are middle weight, not ungainly. Better immediately on opening than after the first hour, but no further falloff on Day 2. Drink now.

In a blind tasting I would never guess this as a Pinot. I don’t understand the praise for a wine that is a Pinot, but tries to be something else. I thought the Sonoma Coast was cool, why does this taste so ripe and disjointed.

Candied hi-c flavor profile that is not very wine like. Shrill acid finish. Little Pinot qualities for what I prefer in a Pinot. I am in the minority as there are many high scores who seem to prefer this style of wine. I found it difficult to drink. Purchased from the winery on release and cellared since. NO Burgundy qualities, at least none I have ever had. I am sad this winery has gone in this direction. There was a time many years ago when their wines had a refinement that was enjoyable, but, perhaps would not get them the points from the extractomatic lovers.

PnP, consumed over three nights, best on night 2. Aromatic nose of red fruits and some floral components. This is very juicy, cherries, cranberry and pomegranate. Quite fruit forward but the acidity reigns it in ultimately delivering that juicy quality.

Pnp - consumed over 3 nights. Initially seemed quite fruit forward both aromatically and on the palate. Lots of big ripe red berries. The backbone of acid is there though to keep the fruit in check. Perhaps not my favorite style, but as a daily drinker this was fine.

Showing tasty, sweet fruit, as it's generally the case with the W-S Sonoma Coast bottling, but the wine is on a downhill slope. Was best wishes him the first 30 minutes--began exhibiting more heat afterward. 14.1% ABV. 88-89

Right from the start, we knew this was going to be good. Aromas of raspberry and dark fruit on the nose. Plenty of structure to the body, yet approachable and easy to drink. Rich flavors and a medium finish coupled with what appears to be a lower ABV made this disappear in no time. Wish I had more in the cellar. Delicious!

Fantastic nose and wonderful initial mouthfeel. Medium bodied with lots of mature fruit and soft tannins. But it disappeared quickly and turned a bit tart on finish. Had higher expectations but still a very good bottle of wine. At release price, this was worthwhile. But there are better bottles available at $50+.

Aerated and decanted. Needed to sit in the glass for awhile to really open up. Really beautiful. I think this is the best of the Williasms Selyem appellation wines. Bouquet and flavors of cherries. Pepper and cinnamon that flow into a complex finish.

Fantastic wine. Still could use a year or two in cellar or decant a bit. Lots of fruit, restrained oak and tannins are there and a bit grippy but get nicer with air. Some earth and mushroom in there as well. A great turkey day wine for sure

Ruby red, good mouthfeel. Cherry and cranberry fruit, with a nice dirtiness toward the end. Nothing bad, but nothing spectacular either.
3/7/2016 Cherry and raspberry fruit. Some black pepper with earthiness on the finish. Distinct flavors that melded after a few hours and made it a little less inspiring. Good with our buttermilk fried chicken.
8/10/2017 All that cherry and cranberry tartness cut through our duck risotto wonderfully. Noted it being short on the finish, but great with dinner nonetheless.
10/7/2019 Notes consistent with previous tastings, but subjectively I like it more than I apparently did 4 years ago. I'm starting to gravitate toward more restraint as it pairs better with a wider range of food.

Not exceptional, but a very nice bottle of pinot. Medium bodied, full on the palate, as other reviewers have said a nice blend of bright cherry and darker/earthier notes, with a medium-long finish. Enjoyable, easy drinking, and not much chance of any being left for day 2.

Pretty but not overly complex nose of sweet red fruit, little bit of earth and some faint secondary dry leaves notes. Nice mid-weight palate with ripe cherry, earth, minerals and a touch of baking spice. Good acidity medium length finish. Think its aging well and likely to develop positively with a little more time but its never going to be really complex wine.

Decanted one hour, slow-o additional hour. Showing very well now. Darker garnet red than five other WS tasted tonight. Crystal clear. Nose of dark fruits, raspberry, roses - simple but powerful nose. Lots of power for a pinot, but it was playing hard to get and did not open fully the first evening. Kept a bit in the fridge for next evening and wine had more depth there. I'll save my other bottle at least for a year. Red berries, cherries even a hint rubarb jam. Very delicious and pleasant.

Gorgeous feminine styled wine. Pleasant bright Bing cherries, light rose petals, some touches of smoke and light earth. Palate is super friendly and approachable. Multiple layers of berries, earth and spice. Great wine. Consistent year to year. Cannot go wrong. Sonoma at its best coupled with some nice Old World earth tones.
Totally different interpretation than that of rjfoss......Fabulous nose of vanilla and berries. Deep crimson color. Lucious and flavorful. Drinking beautifully now. Wish I had more than one bottle of this left.
Pop and pour. I'm a little torn: nose is reticent, and very obviously CA pinot with the bright red fruits - cherries, strawberries, raspberries, some baking spices. The mouthfeel is excellent, velvety, clearly well-made. Tart red cherries, raspberries, vanilla, some spices, and a medium-long finish on the palate. I'm not ready to dismiss it yet...but the lack of acidity tells me that this won't really sing like some of the best Sonoma pinots of 2010. Maybe needs some more time in the bottle or glass to become more expressive...but right now, for $50 on release, this is a pass. The 2010 Kistler Sonoma Coast blew this out of the water.

Drank over 2 nights. I know this is too early but I am trying to learn some domestic producers and needed to try Williams Selyem. Overall very nice - red fruits, raisins, and floral on the nose. Palate is definitely fruit forward, pepper, juicy and a style that is hard to not enjoy at least. Definitely could use a few years and some tannin/bitter there. Will probably get some more WS, but key question to me is is it worth the price tag versus some other domestic guys?

A solid effort. Probably a little young at this point. The nose is just about fully developed, but the palette needs a little more time to integrate. Aromas of cherry and licorice. The palette is very fruit forward. Acidity is good, but a little soft. I'm thinking 5 years will work wonders on this wine. A very nice, well-made wine, but it didn't blow me away.

Cherry and floral notes on the nose, with some earth and crushed rock in the middle, and a little pepper at the end. Smooth and juicy on the palate, with sour cherry and forest floor, some floral notes and minerals on the mid-palate, and a goos spicy finish.

A nice bing cherry pucker with a vanilla backing, though a little thin and doesn't seem to linger.

Deep ruby color. Nice nose of cherry and warm spice. Supple palate with red fruits, cherry and plum. Needed more acidity to elevate it.

Light to medium body. A bit fruity, but nice dark cherry, cola and a bit of clove.

Red fruit and lavender with wet stone on nose. Bright red cherry with mineral on palate. Lingering finish. Simultaneously stylish but straight-forward. Just well done and doesn't overreach.

Superb. Rich, detailed. Nose and palate of berries and citrus. Palate also had a slight pepper flavor. Long finish. Only five bottles left...

Nose of raspberry, mocha, rose petal, and pencil shavings. Palate of cranberries and smoke with some light bitterness that will probably soften with age.
