I had this last one laying around for a while and had a friend over on Saturday. She is not a big red wine fan and since I had a zillion mushrooms and garlic and fregola and olive oil and parmigiano. I thought a lighter red might bring her some pleasure. I liked this wine, once again, as part of a dinner, it worked well. Is it amazing off the charts or whatever, no, but at 13.5% ABV and light it complemented the dinner and best of all, my guest was impressed. With more than the food. I liked it.

- Brick color. It's somewhat balanced with a light/medium body. Linear texture with a short finish - This was a very smooth wine. It had a subtle berry flavor. Would buy it again.

Last bottle of four, still in good shape if not evolved. Just a good bottle of friendly wine, medium-light body, plum aromas, excellent plummy fruit that says everything it's going to say on entry. Medium-short finish.

There are two main elements at work here: fresh dark cherry fruit vs slight bitterness. Nicely balanced, with good acid and purity, focussed and fresh. Excellent typicity. As noted by others, will work will with a broad range of foods. (Paired beautifully with a tangy saffron chicken and fennel/herb salad.) Out of the park qpr; punches well above its weight.

Hot summer night, lightly chilled Valpolly - sounds like the opening to a good book. This was excellent. Fresh, juicy with a hint of almond/amaro bitterness to balance the fresh cherry red fruit. Very low tannins, little bit of earth on the finish, maybe a little fig and currant. For $12+ this is a spectacular value and an everyday wine that pairs beautifully with many dishes. Worked great with chicken saltimboca (dusted, pan fried with procuitto finished with white wine) and fresh veggies. This would be an easy 89 points without considering the price, but when the price is added.....

We love this as a table wine. Pretty, lilting fruit with the acidity I crave. We mostly consume with food, so works really well with pizza night and other Italian dishes like Parm and pasta with sauce. By itself, may fade a bit or become uninspiring in glass, but great compliment to the food.

Now this is a qpr to me...lovely drink. Light, but full of fresh red fruits, a bit of pepper, lots of acidity and minerality. Seriously, $12? The enjoyment factor on this, especially on a warm spring evening, is very high.

Deep garnet color. Medium body. Pop 'n pour. Nose of blueberries and, yes, blood orange. On the palate, more of same (the taste of blood orange is enhanced by some citric-level acidity) and also some black pepper notes. While the attack is a burst of flavor, the finish is rather abrupt. Good with (Italian) food and likely better young.

Drank over three nights, this is exactly what it should be. Bright red fruit, aggressive acidity. For the price, this is a screaming deal. If I had a shot at a case of it, I would buy in a heartbeat. Nothing distasteful or unpleasant. Remarkable QPR.

PnP consumed over 2 nights, served non-blind. Night #1, fresh, like a barrel sample. Flavors are somewhat closed, simple. Night #2, bang!, greatly outweighs the $13 price-tag. Plum, fig, stone. On the medium-bodied palate, less complex than the nose. Nonetheless, impressive structure and composure for such a modestly priced bottle. As honest and traditional as it gets. Superb food wine. 13% abv, drink thru 2016

This is a fine weeknight drinking wine, good value, but definitely improves on the second night. Tight initially, with some astringency; light on palate. By the second night, the flavors have coalesced and deepened, astringency and tightness mostly gone. Earth, light fruit, and pepper.

Lighter than expected, almost Burgundian. Interesting wine. With air, I think this smells like cherries and herbs, fruitcake, pine, and raspberry, ruby red grapefruit, and other red fruit. Transparent on the palate, thin and razor-sharp. Nice acid, flat back-end. Lingering dry-fruit notes.

Wow, this wine really is a homerun for the price. Starts out a bit awkward on the finish, but after an hour in the glass this is beautifully smooth and delicious. The aromas are on the lighter end of the spectrum, showing plenty of graphite, meaty cherry pit, minerality, and cranberry. A very lithe notion on the nose, but things are beautifully balanced and it still feels like its exerting its presence. The palate is light in body with soft texture and very light acidity. Tart, lean fruit flavors, but they're a bit creamy. Nice smooth elegant fruit on the finish, with mild acidity and a smooth texture. The finish still shows some off balanced acidity and slight astringency, but overall it's offering some really nice pleasing minerals and tartness. Pretty nice and smooth right now, but will be better in 6 months to a year. 89+, but it may do the 91 point thing in its future. One of the top values in Valpolicella.

Agree with the smoky cherry notes both on the nose and palate, also found a little cinnamon on the nose and definitely got the bitterness on the palate. No better on day 2, it actually took a step back I thought. Maybe a solid house wine at a restaurant but didn't get much pleasure from this bottle.

Very enjoyable Valpolicella with a harmonious acidity that balances the red fruit and cherry making it a perfect food wine. Got better as the evening progressed suggesting that old father time may improve it further.

Excellent QPR! Delivers exactly what it's supposed to as a perfect example of a really well balanced valpolicella. Cherry and almond nose, light mid palate, and a refreshing finish with plenty of acidity. Very versatile food wine.

This is a good, solid wine for the money, but it leaves things to be desired. Fairly straightforward and lacking complexity, this is a good wine to drink with a simple dinner. Dark cherry fruit and tree bark with some hints of violets and earth. Unfortunately, this won't be for everyone as it has a texture more akin to Burgundy than that of Valpolicella. This is a wine that I will not be re-purchasing.

While I think IWC was thinking of another wine when they gave it that score, this is really very good, even perfect, for a <20usd Italian red. Cool, cherry fruit with a sense (yeah, not much more than a sense) of spices. It's so perfect for tomato dishes that I almost think I can taste a tomato note here. Classic stuff.

Drank this one slightly chilled as per John Szabo's recommendation, what a mistake. Nose was flat as was the taste. Tried it again after it warmed up to room temp, didn't make much of a difference. A complete let down.

Hard to say how much the IWC’s 91 point score had in the power of suggestion here, but this really was a surprisingly well made wine. Very bright and full red fruit zip and snap, great back side of fresh herbs. Perfect for casual tomato based dishes.

Ruby color, nice weight in the mouth. A bit of currant or blackberry on the nose. Moderate tannins and oak (I think - got to go check Jon Rimmerman's notes to see if this saw oak). Moderately long finish. We are 25% of the way through the case already - may not get to see how this evolves with bottle age!

At first I thought I knew what to expect when I ordered a glass of this wine, but I was incorrect. A touch lighter than some of the recent Valpos I have had, but some spice and plums came through on the nose. On the palate the plums and dark cherries came through but as the wine transitioned to the finish I received a delicious floral smack on the face. I think it was flowers and it was a nice surprise. Would like to have another glass and see if the same experience is had.

I was a huge fan of the 2009, though now unsure about the 2010 vintage. It open with aromas and flavors reminiscent of a light, inexpensive Chilean Cab... with pronounced green nuances :( After two hours, some ripe fruit did emerge, though the green earthy component still lingered in the background. Maybe it's just going through a phase or this bottle is off... the texture was pleasant, with medium body, balanced acid and light, dusty tannins... very different from the 2009... just my opinion though, maybe some will like this better... I'm undecided at this point... time will tell... maybe it just needs some serious air to come together at this point? ... the last glass was best, with mineral and lead pencil emerging...

I'm not quite as excited about this as Ian D'Agata, but that may come with some more bottle rest as it's obvious this has a lot to offer. Still quite primary, this shows a high degree of barnyard-like qualities for the first few minutes before it slowly moves to the fruit and red floral components. Tasted with the winemaker's son on his US Summer tour, nice young man. I'll make it a point to try another bottle before summer lets out because this is mostly likely going to be something I'll want (read: buy a case or two) as a mid-week table wine come autumn. The QPR is superb. Upside noted.

Made with grape varietals Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Cork was dry. Licorice, black cherry, plum, pepper and hints of smoked meat aromas. Lots of red cherries on the palate. Spicy core with good acidity throughout. Light- to medium-bodied. Dry with well-balanced ripe tannins. Perfect for chicken lasagna. Very good wine.

Excellent QPR! Delivers exactly what it's supposed to as a perfect example of a really well balanced valpolicella. Cherry and almond nose, light mid palate, and a refreshing finish with plenty of acidity. Very versatile food wine.

Ruby color, dark fruit nose. Medium body and tannins with red fruits, green pepper, and herb with a medium finish and lingering tannins. On day 2 everything came together a bit more cohesively. Quite tasty for sub-$12... great value.

While I think IWC was thinking of another wine when they gave it that score, this is really very good, even perfect, for a <20usd Italian red. Cool, cherry fruit with a sense (yeah, not much more than a sense) of spices. It's so perfect for tomato dishes that I almost think I can taste a tomato note here. Classic stuff.

Drank this one slightly chilled as per John Szabo's recommendation, what a mistake. Nose was flat as was the taste. Tried it again after it warmed up to room temp, didn't make much of a difference. A complete let down.

Hard to say how much the IWC’s 91 point score had in the power of suggestion here, but this really was a surprisingly well made wine. Very bright and full red fruit zip and snap, great back side of fresh herbs. Perfect for casual tomato based dishes.

Ruby color, nice weight in the mouth. A bit of currant or blackberry on the nose. Moderate tannins and oak (I think - got to go check Jon Rimmerman's notes to see if this saw oak). Moderately long finish. We are 25% of the way through the case already - may not get to see how this evolves with bottle age!

On the palate the plums and dark cherries came through but as the wine transitioned to the finish I received a delicious floral smack on the face. I think it was flowers and it was a nice surprise. Would like to have another glass and see if the same experience is had.

I was a huge fan of the 2009, though now unsure about the 2010 vintage. It open with aromas and flavors reminiscent of a light, inexpensive Chilean Cab... with pronounced green nuances :( After two hours, some ripe fruit did emerge, though the green earthy component still lingered in the background. Maybe it's just going through a phase or this bottle is off... the texture was pleasant, with medium body, balanced acid and light, dusty tannins... very different from the 2009... just my opinion though, maybe some will like this better... I'm undecided at this point... time will tell... maybe it just needs some serious air to come together at this point? ... the last glass was best, with mineral and lead pencil emerging...

I'm not quite as excited about this as Ian D'Agata, but that may come with some more bottle rest as it's obvious this has a lot to offer. Still quite primary, this shows a high degree of barnyard-like qualities for the first few minutes before it slowly moves to the fruit and red floral components. Tasted with the winemaker's son on his US Summer tour, nice young man. I'll make it a point to try another bottle before summer lets out because this is mostly likely going to be something I'll want (read: buy a case or two) as a mid-week table wine come autumn. The QPR is superb. Upside noted.

Made with grape varietals Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Cork was dry. Licorice, black cherry, plum, pepper and hints of smoked meat aromas. Lots of red cherries on the palate. Spicy core with good acidity throughout. Light- to medium-bodied. Dry with well-balanced ripe tannins. Perfect for chicken lasagna. Very good wine.
