brvino Wine Tasting #5 - Rosé (brvino Undergraduate Wine Club at UCLA): Much more interesting on the nose with white pepper, strawberry jam, lavender, and toast (maybe cheese?). Cherry shows again and maybe watermelon, too. There is a lot of energy and juiciness on the nose. On the palate, it’s fun and exciting. Grapefruit, honey, and even a little bit of ginger. I like this one. 8-/18

Color is a golden orange. Lovely nose of strawberry, green apple, pear. Fresh and bright. Large bubbles, not super refined. Palate is a bit flat, but a nice mix of strawberry, red fruit, and orchard fruit, decent acidity. Definitely an enjoyable pour.

Very nice, if modest, pinot noir-based Crémant d'Alsace. Bubbles are relatively large compared to a quality Champagne or Crémant de Bourgignon, but that's because, according to the Lucien Albrecht website, the wine has spent just a year in the bottle on the secondary fermentation lees. The result is a quality sparkler for the price — certainly one for more everyday drinking than saving for a special occasion.

Appearance: Salmon pink Nose: Nearly all strawberry, with a little bit of peach thrown in Palate: Bright tasting and fizzy, with a medium finish for the end.

Salmon pink. Smelled strawberry, ruby red grapefruit or maybe orange, brioche, and yeastiness; tasted the same. The mousse persists pretty well, the body is light, the finish is refreshing with fruitiness fading to dry with medium length. Could use a touch more acid, but in the whole one to come back to especially at the price.

QPR is off the charts with this fabulous Cremant rose. Intense mousse, lively acidity, minerality. Strawberries on the nose and palate, very refreshing. At a third of the cost of a NV Rose Champagne, this is an amazing value and a wine to be purchased in quantity. A very enjoyable drink.

Retail $24. 100% Pinot Noir. I really should drink more of this wine; I find it for about $16 at my local grocery store and it is certainly a bargain at that price. Bright red fruit, fantastic tartness, and a lengthy finish. It might be a tad sweet, but only a tad, but it works well with all the fruit and acidity. Excellent.
Retail $24. 100% Pinot Noir. I put the Crémants from Alsace right up there with those from the Jura as the the best French sparkling wines outside of Champagne. And I have long considered Albrecht as one of the top producers of bubbles in the region. It has been a couple of years since I have tried the rosé and I remain a fan. Bright red fruit, fantastic tartness, above-average length. Excellent.
Pleasant enough. Starts with lovely purity of strawberry, quince, and apple. Acidity gives way to Alsatian sugar and ends with just a touch of gasoline. New to us so fun and different. But not to be taken too seriously.

Gift of partial bottle - 12.0% abv. Served at Lunch by a friend who gave us the remaining bottle. Served well-chilled (6c/43f). 100% Pinot Noir. Bright pale pink in the glass. Red fruit floral notes and hints of Strawberry on the nose, carrying over to the palate. Crisp and refreshing. An excellent example of a French Sparkling Wine from a producer that was a co-founder of the AOC Crémant d’Alsace designation.

Pale salmon color with red berry, rosehips, orange zest and subtle chalk aromas. On the palate it's medium-bodied, dry and very fresh with a creamy mousse. It shows ripe strawberry, dried Morello cherry, raspberry, and rosehip flavors accented with a low-key savory herbaceous notes. 100% Pinot Noir|ABV - 12%|SRP - $23

Pale salmon color. The nose is crisp and floral with raspberry and red apples peel, along with chalk dust, wildflowers and perfume. Crisp and zesty on the palate with tight bubbles and flavors of raspberry, red apple peel and orange zest. Nervy and fresh, a light feel but not shy, and has some complex floral perfume, chalk and talc notes. This is reliable and delicious stuff and so reasonably priced. All Pinot Noir aged 12-18 months on the lees, 12 g/l dosage.

Retail $24. 100% Pinot Noir. I have little hesitation in saying that this is my favorite French sparkling wine outside of Champagne. Lovely pinkish-orange in the glass with strawberry, melon, and a touch floral. The palate suggests a touch of sweetness, but the tartness quickly balances it out. Fruity, tart, lovely. thedrunkencyclist.com
seasonal allergies prevented me from assessing the bouquet, but on the palate ? very nice; watermelon, peach, strawberry; relative high acidity makes this a summertime hit ! clean, long finish. I bought at $18 last year; now has shot up to $24 on wine.com

50% of what they produce is Cramant. And when the French don't buy Champagne, apparently they buy Lucien Albrecht. To the tune of 50% of their purchases.
And I am being told Alsace is actually quite dry, meaning no rain.
The is crisp and tight.
When they use Pinot Noir in Cremant in Alsace they have to do 100% Pinot Noir apparently.
6-12 hours skin contact. And all free run Pinot Noir.
8 to 12 g/L of sugar.
Pretty good.

These go down so easily. An abundance of strawberry on the attack and sweet basil on the finish. The mousse is lively but not roiling. The acidity is bracing but not sharp. Between the bubbles and acidity, the fattiness of the ribeye is stripped away and mouth cleansing. A bit lean on the mid-palate and definitely not as yeasty as Champagne, but then ... what is? Certainly nothing else can touch this for $17.00! 12% alc. With leftover beef ribeyes on Sunday (leftover birthday dinner) and then the balance on Monday with crab and shrimp salad on my actual birthday. Monday birthdays are a drag. 08.04-05.19. Recommended.

Impressed. I find it hard to find a sparkling wine at a decent price that I like, and this one actually tinkled my fancy. I think I’ve forgotten how I reference the wine in these notes. Is the ‘16 a reference to when I purchased the case or when I first began making notes on the case? Dunno. In any event, made of 100% Pinot Noir, the framboise in the glass and on the nose is unmistakable. Even now “[t]he mousse still roils with activity even though poured this time into” our trusty Reidel rosé glasses. “... as always, the bubbles are a touch coarse...” At this point the flavors are all strawberries, cream and basil. 12% alc. The season of lights continues with this mercurial Cremant d’Alsace from Lucien Albrecht. Glinting copper and rose gold in the glass, it’s an expressive wine, trimmed with apricot and quince, red berries and spice—notes that rise and tumble through an alluvion of cascading bubbles. In the mouth, this 100% Alsatian Pinot Noir is fresh and vivid, with concentrated layers of fruit. Highly recommended. Sample

Because this wine is so reliable and so much of a “grab-and-go” wine for us, I rarely write it up any more, but at the first wine of the newest of new years for us, it deserves a note. Made of 100% Pinot Noir, the framboise in the glass and on the nose is unmistakable. The mousse roils with activity and is always a touch coarse. Yet the flavors remain consistently true to strawberries and cranberries from the attack to the decent mid-palate. On the finish, yeah ... basil. No one ever says, “Hey, tell me about this wine!” until after the bottle is empty. No one ever says at the first sip, “Ooo, what is this all about!” until after they realize it’s gone, yet it always gets a nod. 12% alc. "Sparkling Wines from around the World (blind)"-Series, Wine 1: The wine was pale salmon in colour, with fine, medium intense perlage. It offered apple, some red fruit, biscuit and smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine tasted off-dry and fruity, with red fruit, strawberry and biscuit flavours, medium-level acidity and average length of the slightly bitter finish. The mousse was slightly aggressive, with rather big bubbles and the wine tasted off-dry even if the label stated “Brut”. This fruity, easy-drinking if a little boring sparkling wine is easy to like and I can see this appealing to many palates. It did not pair well with food though.

Coming back to this wine again now that Calvert & Woodley was able to source it again. We also attempted it in burgundy glasses to sort out its profile better. Let’s just say that with this bottling it may be best not to sort out its profile too closely. In the Riedel Vinum burgundy glass, it comes off with a bitter, almost astringent finish. But back in the traditional flute for sparklers, it showcases more of a strawberry and watermelon profile, but lacks the creaminess that we so loved from earlier bottlings. In both glass styles, the mousse is aggressive and lively with a continuous stream of fine bubbles. 12% alc. With sunny side up eggs over salad; not the best pairing, but very fun nonetheless. WSET DIPLOMA TASTING NOTE Appereance: the wine is clear, it has pale intensity of light orange colour, with fine and small bubbles. The bubbles are persistent.
Nose: it is a clean wine, it has medium+ intensity of strawberry and raspeberry aromas. It has hints of bread. It is youthful.
Palate: It is a off-dry wine, with medium acidity , it has medium alcohol (12%) and it has medium- body. It has medium intensity of strawberry, raspberry aromas and a certain minerality on the palate. The lenght is medium
Assessment of quality: It is a good wine, because it has a good balance between sweetness, flavours, acidity and alcohol. It shows the characteristics of its grape variety (Pinot noir) , but it lacks of complexity on the nose and the lenght on the palate is not long
Readiness for drinking/potential for ageing: drink now, not intended for ageing
Approximate retail price:high priced
Method of production: traditional
Region of origin Alsace, France
Predominant grape variety: Pinot Noir

Not a bad bottle of sparkling wine, at all, and it's dirt-cheap. More pleasant than a good many grande marque Champagnes I've had, costing ten or twenty times the price. Has it all, pleasant aroma, good body, tasty, not too acidic, good mousse. Perfect for serving at large parties, far better than the recently-tasted and sickeningly-sweet Ariston Aspasie, and the Albrecht is half to one-third the price, no less! Very nice and very useful resource for entertaining.

Too fizzy for me, though I think it's a well-made wine. You want some *sparkle* in your rose, it's right here. Light pink fruits on the nose, pleasing, restrained and fruity palate. I confess - and some will regard it as blasphemy - that I shook the bottle to get rid of some of the carbonation. Better, after that, in my opinion.

Rose Wine Dinner at Meritage (Meritage, St. Paul): Light orange salmon solor. Nose is red berries, mineral, yeast. The palate is consistent, criisp refreshing, strawberry, mineral, a touch of bitterness. Very tasty, I always enjoy this rose sparkler, great QPR and a crowd pleaser.

Wow, for the price this is fantastic. Extremely clean, and has a touch of sweet although it's not off-dry. Lots of strawberry and some wet rocks. Medium length finish, extremely refreshing. Hard to beat under $20.

My second ever Sabrage. I used the back of a too-sharp cleaver. Piece of cake. So fun. And the wine? 100% Pinot. Such strawberry and cream and salt and mineral. Is there a better $20 sparkling wine on the planet? This stuff is not complex but stunningly clean and pure. I really need a lot of this in the cellar. So pretty!

Much the same as noted last July & December: “Strawberries and cream; cream and strawberries: that is what this is all about. The acidity is rather crisp, commanding food to accompany a pour of this sparkler, but that’s ok. As noted seven months ago this is 100% Pinot Noir, and works with both food and as an aperitif. However, it works best with food.” 12% alc. With cheeses, DeFlorio’s sundried tomato and cheese bread thingies and onion and ham quiches along with Mark and Marcy on the second bottle of the 4 bottle evening to kick off spring. Recommended.

Enticing watermelon hue with light copper tinges; aromas of cherry and strawberry fruit are traced with brioche and floral notes. The palate comes across as a bit course, with an ebullient mouthfeel that errs towards rusticity.

Again, a really nice value. Refreshing, with medium intensity to the fruit flavors, buttressed by a nice bit of flinty earth that recalls Burgundy in a way, and lively acidity. At $11-13, Albrecht and Alsace are knocking one out of the park with this rosé. 89-90

We loved this wine. We had it with some dry rubbed BBQ pork chops. A great complement! This bubbly has an aroma of pastry and red berries. It tastes like strawberries and raspberries with a wonderful amount of dryness. If this is priced so low because people just don't drink roses, then take advantage and buy this stuff up!

I do not have much experience with bobblies but I thought that it had decent fruit and taste. It was nut as intense as Krug but very nice and noticeable flavor profile (cherries and strawberries).

We drank our 3rd bottle with grilled pork chops on 7/20/10. This time, the bouquet had fresh strawberry, cherry, mineral and yeast aromas. The palate followed with clean, fresh flavors of strawberry, mineral and a little pink grapefruit.

That point of course has taken price into consideration. It is sweet, careml sweet with nice nose of rasberry. Color is wonderful. However, the buddle died pretty quickly and it does not give you this mouth busting buddle feel in your mouth - espeically after opening it for 30 mins. Overall still a steal because the taste is wonderful.

We drank this with grilled Salmon on 5/31/10. It had strawberry, biscuit and mineral aromas followed by light crisp strawberry and mineral flavors on the palate. It had a very pleasant mousse, was a little simple and a little bitter on the finish. It was delicious.

Honestly, it is not top class Rose. However, taking into the account of the price - you are getting a lot for your dollars. The color is light pink, the bubble is weak, but silky. The nose is pleasnt and taste of lemon and little little bit of caramel. Pleasent.

Lovely pale pink color, fine bead, and a very nice strawberry/cherry nose. On the palate, very good mousse combined with nice strawberry flavors. Good acidity and tension, with a long finish.

From its very fine mousse and continuous stream of tiny bubbles to its bronze tinted color and its flavors of strawberries and cream, this sparkler delivers in every respect. That it can do so for $17 is rather astounding. While it will never be confused with Fourny Rosé or Billecart Salmon Rosé at one half and one quarter of the cost respectively, it makes a good run at it. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, this has the stuffing to pair well with food and the pleasing grace to stand alone as an aperitif. While the mid-palate and finish may be short, it finishes with a touch of yeasty goodness. 12% alc. With country ham (pork) and Coleman’s mustard sauce, brie with bourbon-cranberry sauce, Triple cream Bourgogne cheese, Gorgonzola Dolce and Montenbro, crusty bread and blue cheese wafers. Served chilled. Ripe peach and nectarine on the nose. On the palate: a sweet effervescence with predominate pear juice that ends with a dry citrus finish. There is also a tiny bit of corkiness to the wine, so little that I go in and out of deciding whether or not it's flawed. Fair to Good. .

If drinking this in a line-up of sparkling wines, taste this one first. It's fresh, crisp and fruity, if you drink this behind a rich, yeasty Champagne or sparkling wine the freshness gets lost and comes across sour. My initial reaction is to do roses last if drinking a bunch of different wines, this one should be explored first.

Pale strawberry hue. Nose of strawberries and blueberries. Bright red & blue fruit forward with some crisp apple notes. A minerality and tannins late in the palate. Wonderful tiny bubble for a smooth creamy mouthfeel and a wonderful long balanced finish.

Beautiful at the price point. Less yeasty, more fruity with delicious red fruit on the mid-palate. I could see many people who don't like wine liking this a lot because of that really easy, delicious red fruit in the mid-palate. Very clean throughout, balanced acidity carries this along. Delicious.

At below $20 this is a steal and was a hit at our dinner party where we served it with appetizers. We'll get more. It's a light colored rose and it is very dry. Not as much fruit in the middle as I'd like, but not bitter at all with a medium finish. Very light and dry. Great starter.

smells like an herbal side of a strawberry, quite nice, mouthfeel firm, tiniest bit heavy, taste dark cherry, dirt, and fresh herbs, acidity quite good and very versatile, great match for salmon, sauteed squash and mushrooms, a delight at the table, if a bit cheaper, it might be welcome there more often, likable, refreshing and interesting

When opened this sprayed all over everything almost 1/2 a bottle; it had not been shaken up. I suspect secondary fermentation. The cork was completely shredded after it was removed. One of my fingers is in the next county.

Had in a restaurant and was surprised by the QPR so I went out and bought a half case. Fine for summer quaffing and nothing to be ashamed about, as long as you don't expect something profound. A nice aperitif, and an honest bottle. Fun for a big crowd in warm weather.

This is the 20th bottle of this wine that my wife and I have had but the first of a new non-vintage bottling. All of the rest were purchased in a case order at the same time and it took quite a while to work through them all and they were also all very similar, as one would expect them to be. I would even expect subsequent new non-vintages releases of the same wine to be quite similar but in this particular case, that's not entirely true. The biggest, and most obvious difference between this bottle and all of the others is the color. The others were very much what one would expect as a "proper" rosé color with a slight pinkish hue. However, this time the color was quite a bit different, leaning towards more of a golden, salmon tinted color. Scents and flavors remained pretty much the same, with lots of creamy strawberries and bright fruits. At around $18, this is still one of the absolute best QPR sparking wines you can get and is easily our favorite.

V. good cheap sparkler; hard to beat this QPR for a v. faintly salmon-colored rose that completely pleasant to drink; not bone dry, but seems to have v. little r.s.; lingering finish with slight minerality and absolutely none of that manufactured overtones that mar most cheap bubblies; will buy more and make it a staple

Has a pale pink/orange'ish' hue. Very fine bubbles in the glass. The nose is very ... bland. Possibly a hint of red fruit. First taste, however, is delightful! Defintitely a burst of strawberries and then moves into green apples. The mousse is wonderful. It just engorges your mouth with the wonderful effervescence. It does have some 'smooth' acidity. Nothing too harsh for me. Nice finish, around 20 seconds. Awesome QPR for a sparkler. Will definitely look for this one again.

fine bubbles, with crisp acidity and flavors of watermelon and strawberry. fresh and lively, but lacking in any sort of complexity. i'd pass on this and go for their blanc de blancs. 100% pinot noir. 12% alc. this wine stayed on its lees for nine months following the secondary fermentation.

Light pinkish color. This is shy on the nose with notes of strawberries and a bit of nuts. Harsh finish, out of balance. I left about a glass in the fridge with a champagne stopper on it. Much better 3 days later! Everything was integrated and I wish I had saved more or I had another bottle. I'm changing my score from 86 to 90 easily.

Really amazing mousse - almost like drinking bubbles. Soft and velvety. I don't get a lot from the nose other than a sort of delicate cheese-rind smell. On the palate it's okay, but honestly I would have liked a deeper, richer flavor to it.

What a lovely bottle for under $20. The bubble float to the top of the mouth in a fun display of efferescence. There's some weight to this, and a nuttiness, giving this wine more complexity then expected for the price. But it's really about how enjoyable it is to drink. The fruit and bubbles, the acidity and finish, everything works together to create a wine that makes you take another sip. A very impressive sparkler that proves the old saying true. "One can drink too much champagne, but one can never drink enough."

Subdued nose shows some apple and strawberry with white flowers. Simple, and a bit too carbonated for me. Lots of acidity on the palate that isn't quite kept in check; still, a value at $15, and certainly the equal of a number of sparklers at the price point.

Retail $24. 100% Pinot Noir.

Sample

Recommended.

WSET DIPLOMA TASTING NOTE
Appereance: the wine is clear, it has pale intensity of light orange colour, with fine and small bubbles.

Drink Alsace - Wines of Pure Expression (TasteLive.com): (12%) 100% Pinot Noir – Salmon pink with an orange hue. Fine bubbles with (yeasty) strawberry fields forever with bright acidity and creamy bubbles (and a nice mousse) that are a touch sweet and a hint salty through a tart, clean and persistent finish. Beautiful, elegant and delightful. At $19 this sparkler from the Alsace certainly impresses. I see many more of these in my future…

Strawberries and cream; cream and strawberries: that is what this is all about. The acidity is rather crisp, commanding food to accompany a pour of this sparkler, but that’s ok. As noted seven months ago this is 100% Pinot Noir, and works with both food and as an aperitif. However, it works best with food. 12% alc. With grilled King salmon. Recommended.

Honestly, it is not top class Rose. However, taking into the account of the price - you are getting a lot for your dollars. The color is light pink, the bubble is weak, but silky. The nose is pleasnt and taste of lemon and little little bit of caramel. Pleasent.

Recommended.

If drinking this in a line-up of sparkling wines, taste this one first. It's fresh, crisp and fruity, if you drink this behind a rich, yeasty Champagne or sparkling wine the freshness gets lost and comes across sour. Beautiful at the price point. Less yeasty, more fruity with delicious red fruit on the mid-palate. I could see many people who don't like wine liking this a lot because of that really easy, delicious red fruit in the mid-palate. Very clean throughout, balanced acidity carries this along. Delicious.
