A Super Sunday (Atlanta): Fun to taste alongside 94 Tondonia. This was more open. Floral. Clean and pure. Fruit is more background here. Leathery. Textbook aged Rioja. As it should be. Really excellent wine. LDH is tough to beat.

There are nuanced and delicate aromas of spring air and ripe fruit. Palate is packed with seemingly primary red fruit that coats the palate. More fruit presence than I'm expecting; yet, it's delicate, silky, and weightless and buffered with a acid streak that keep things focused. Long finish. No rush to drink. Beautiful wine.

Excellent wine. The highlight is the scent. Flowers. Dried fruit. Very good. On the palate, as expected, reasonable acidity and light body. Asks for food.

Beautiful nose of flowers, spice, wet leaves. Palate shows slightly ripe red fruit with a brilliantly silky texture that is marked by earthiness and hints of tobacco. Acidity is lively, the wine tastes young; yet it's also ready. Love the wine and glad to ave more to watch...

A bit riper on the nose than I'm used to, ripe on the palate too but within classic parameters, very fine, very very rusty, just faint oxidation, meaty, herbal. Not my favorite vintage of this wine overall though it is extremely delicious right now.

Lopez's wines are usually released with quite a bit of age on them so they tend to be at least knocking on the door of maturity when you open them. But this seems on the young side for a Gran Reserva release so the result is something I don't think I've ever seen before, a Lopez that's pretty much totally shut down. It's not showing any of the earthy tertiary flavors or textural suavity you normally get from these, just flavors that feel vaguely Rioja-like, c'est tout. If this bottle is representative (admittedly not generally a safe assumption with this producer) it's not to be opened for at least another decade.

Nose of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, mushrooms, truffles, chocolate, baking spices, dried flowers, smoke. Beautiful balanced palate of red and black fruits with bay anf licorice and thyme and spices. Very dry. Simply wonderful.

Fantastic wine. Still young, but so polished and classy.
