Drank at a friend's house with bbq ribs, and alongside a bottle of 2010 La Dame de Montrose which I brought. Served from decanter. My first glass was after a couple glasses of the Bordeaux. The length of the St Estephe persisted even thru the first sips of the St. Joseph. Softer, rounder fruit profile with lower tannins and acidity. Earthy and lightly peppered, well balanced with a medium length finish. Very pleasurable but somewhat overshadowed by the bigger wine.

More floral and honeyed this time on the nose than our last bottle, with blueberries and black olives again on the palate. A very good bottle, if not quite as deep or compelling as the previous one. Will finish our last few bottles over the coming couple of years I think.

This syrah is drinking beautifully now (and was very tight and hard to read soon after release). The purest blueberry liqueur, with black olives, rosemary and cream on the nose. Tannins almost fully resolved. Nice with steak and mushrooms, but would be even better with venison and blueberry sauce (note to self). I'll give my remaining bottles a few more years. Wonderful stuff!

bramble berries, dark cherries, hints of roasted wood. all in perfect balance. International style, but elegant, not jammy, with nice acid and pretty good length. Not great, but very, very good. Scored 91-92 Decent QPR at 20-25 Euros. Perfect now but no hurry to drink.

Nice wine, certainly fits the profile. Lots of earth and black olives along with iron and meaty flavors before restrained dark black cherry fruit emerges mid-palate and carries through the finish. Texture is silky with tannins fully resolved.
Fully mature, drink now-2023.

Once again, I'm an outlier. Nice nose that just screams "Rhone" - a hint of herbs and a ton of minerals. On the palate, a big disappointment. To intentionally misquote Clara Peller, "Where's the fruit?". I suppose there was some, but not enough to identify it. Very good structure, which made it serviceable with grilled lamb chops, but... Spectator gave this a 93, and most of the notes in CellarTracker are positive, so maybe this one was an off bottle.

PnP, served with dinner, finished later same evening; followed over 3 hours. Really felt this over delivered. Huge amounts of pepper with olive juice, soy, blackberry and boysenberry. At this point the tannins are nicely integrated and everything is nicely balanced. Wish I had bought more than one back in the day. Strong recommendation on this.

Saline, black cherry, soy, tobacco & black olives on nose. Medium body, medium acidity, high tannins with a long finish. Black fruits primarily on palate. Much better with airtime - decant for 1-2 hours if drinking now. 92+

Tuesday Night Double Blind <$40 (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Dark core with cloudy maroon rim; oak, black and white pepper, fuller richer dark fruit; chocolate, fatter, richer mouthfeel, still grippy, black pepper finish; good.

Northern Rhone Reds (Seattle, WA): Tasted blind. Cotton candy, dense fruit, smoke, and paint thinner. Some VA? Darker and more brooding on the palate. Mouthcoating dry tannins. Smoke, leather, and licorice. Chewy tannins. This is still pretty tight.

Drinking very well currently; The nose has lovely tones of dark fruits, olive tapenade and pepper, while the palate is fairly concentrated but with excellent acidity and balance; An hour of air definitely wakens this up, suggesting this will improve over the next 5+ years

Served with steak au poivre. Decanted 1 hour. Lovely to look at, breathe in and sip. Rich dark purple in glass, as Mzimberg noted. Nose brings pepper, earth, layered fresh red and purple fruits with aged backdrop. Pnwskibum described this well. Continued to open and deepen during meal. Very nice on palate, from front to back with length and effortless tannin. I was particularly struck by how it evolved in the mouth in this way. Layered with fruit, earth, herbs. Simultaneously deep and fresh. Drinking very well. Was perfect with the steak & sauce--thoroughly enjoyable and delightfully intoxicating complement to the meal.

Gorgeous dark purple. Plums, figs, cherry juice, and scorched earth aromas. Lithe, especially given it is a syrah. Understated bacon fat, rare char grilled steak, and cracked peppercorn. Very fine tannins in an impeccable and long finish.

Dark purple color. Great nose that hits you with a strong cracked black pepper element. Its a little tangy on the palate but has a nice soft profile of blackberries and meat. Its not overly sweet or long but clearly well made. This is so distinctively a northern Rhone Syrah. Fun and a great QPR.

Very earthy nose. Medium bodied on initial introduction to the mouth. Flavors seem to match earthiness of the nose. I can’t think of a single fruit flavor that I might use to describe this. As a stretch I might suggest vegetative hints like bell pepper or asparagus. Quite tart as it passes towards the back of the palate.
Nose - slightly floral. Lots of stoniness. Black fruits. Palate - black fruits. Meatiness. Slight baking spice. Black pepper on the finish. High acid. Medium bodied. Tar and black licorice. Taut with nice tension. Color - dense and dark. Completely opaque.

Very dark and quite dense in the glass. Just lovely and very traditional on the nose: blackberry, damp earth, meat, smoke and iron with hints of brett and vegetal aromas. Really dark toned, thick and brooding nose, and a really good one at that. On the palate fairly full bodied and fleshy with quite considerable yet fine-grained tannins. Quite a structure, but with easily enough ripe yet savoury dark fruit to match. Unfortunately I still have a very fresh recollection of drinking Allemand Cornas Chaillot in Paris last week and I keep on comparing this wine to that one, which really is not fair at all. That beind said the fruit, while typical and pure, seems a bit hollow (especially towards the finish) at this point, greatly reducing the appeal of this wine when drunk on its own. That and the currently somewhat aggressive tannin structure could improve with more bottle age though. Anyway this is really good now with beef tenderloin and on the other hand years away from its peak and thus I would not mind having several bottles more to age.

Black pepper, black olives and a little bit of tar on the nose. Blackberry fruit with nice acidity and minerality. Probably good for another 4-6 years, but drinking well now. Needs food; was great with bbq'd chicken.

Should have bought 6 bottles rather than 3! Decanted for 1 hour and served with grilled chicken. Dark black / purple color. Beautiful nose - iron / meat / black cherry. On palate, cherry, black cherry, iron with full body but very silky palate feel leading into a long finish with a nice tannic backbone. 93-94 range. What wines does Saint-Cosme make that are not good? Rebuy.

This is a very nice Saint Joseph. Floral aromas of violets and jasmin with underlying blackberry and raspberry, minerality, and earth. The palate is bright with fruit and flora notes and has a nice balance of tannin and acidity. The finish is all together. This is definitely young and could age another 3-5 years easily, but is quite pleasant now.

Small Coravin session @ home. Dark purple color. When I put my nose into the glass I immediatly shouted "YES"! Amazing textbook Northern Rhône Syrah nose of tons of ground pepper, black olives, cassis/black currant and some smokey minerality. On the palate there are again plenty of peppery notes, dark fruits, minerals, but also some animalic flavors (beef blood, raw meat). Full-bodied and dense (especially for a wine in this price range) with refreshing medium-high acidity and medium tannin adding structure and grip. Long and balanced finish. This is a very beautiful St-Joseph and probably one of the best values I have ever had from the Northern Rhône ($33). It combines beautiful aromatics with the freshness of the vintage. I love all of Saint-Cosme's Southern Rhône cuvées, especially their different Gigondas, but this is an absolutely stunning wine and it really blew me away!
