Drank with rosemary-garlic grilled Heritage Farms pork chops, gnocchi with Cremini mushrooms, a lovely salad topped with 7 Dec-picked green beans from the garden. I post the foods because the freshly ground pepper in the wine played really well with the garlic and the green herbal quality was great with the rosemary. There is a nicely retained dark red fruit component and a little menthol. The wine is not very complex, but certainly "correct." I don't get any heat despite the 14.5 ABV. All in all I would say that this is a fun drink once per year.

Similar notes as 4/18/2012, except a bit drier, acidic this time around. Definite flavors of woods, almost distracting. Cigar smoke. Overall though, a nice syrah but at $30 not a great QPR.

Willamette Valley - Tasted at winery: Dark purple color. Nose of cloves, spices, dark berries. On the palate woodsy, berries, mouth-filling tannins, spices. Reminiscent of a good Australian Shiraz.

A new world syrah without much distinction. Not bad, but nothing remarkable either.
