Tasted blind, this wine had a medium deep red center with light orang/tan rims. The medium+ intensity nose put forth sour cherries, cola, minerals, plum, and anise.
This got better and better with air and was the best at the end of the night despite being open 7 hours. It was ripe and rich with great acidity and length. The complexity kept building in the glass.
This bottle was certainly in its prime, especially after extended decanting. It will last 10 years if well stored.

This wine is sheer perfection. It so seamlessly integrates fruit, structure and aromatics that it is difficult to disentangle. The color profile is bright, luminescent and alive with no turbidity. The red forest fruit bursts from the glass with rose petals and peony floral notes, exotic spice and tea leaves add tonality with a seductive soft licorice base note. The mouthfeel is precise with fresh tannic grip yet simultaneously unctuous - likewise the long finish has a crisp acidic high. There is plenty of complexity and muscularity yet it is weightless and crystalline - in fact its aromatics simply levitate and burst from the glass. This wine has plenty of life left in it but is at such an apogee that it should be savored.

Very generously shared by a friend. Every aspect of this wine belies its age. It is so damn good and filled with Vosne baking spice for days that is interlaced with still fresh and maturely flavored black cherry. Pin point balance. A rare treat.

Tasted blind, this wine had a medium red center with tawny/tan rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed cherries, roasted meat, tan spices, and soil.
In the mouth, this wine had a medium body, light tannin, solid acidity, and excellent length. It developed quite well in the glass, despite many hours in a decanter, which suggests it will last. The balance and complexity were top notch.
While, this wine seemed robust, the color suggested it was at its peak. Drink over the next 10 years.

World's Greatest, Hong Kong - Night III (8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Macau): This has that beautifully mature softness and elegance, roses, light red cherry, teas. So soft and pure but with a lot of power lurking in the background. Very expressive. This has a La Turque bacon fat, scorched earth, and white flower combination to it. On the palate this is light and zippy. Cherry strikes up front. About peak performance here and outstanding, even from the '80 and '90 La Tâche next in line.

Paris Club dinner with JK (Chicago): This started out a little subdued and slightly funky, but over a couple hours kept getting better. My last sip was the best. Once it opened, elegant red fruit, dried roses, spice and a potpourri of other nuances on the nose. Fresh and lively on the palate with nice energy and grip on the finish. The complex delicacy of this wine was quite an intellectual experience.

Eight (Not Angry) Men Drinking Great Wine (Paris Club - Chicago IL): Great color, 2cm ullage. Open 1 hour before serving. Cork ever-so-slightly protruded, very soaked through (thank you, Durand). Started slightly musty and almost a little muddy. Within 15 minutes, fruit started getting more fresh, baking spice emerged with depth and an intensity that expanded over the next couple of hours. Kept getting better. My very last taste (at 2+ hours in glass) seemed slightly muddy, but I think I had just poured myself the dregs from the last of the bottle.

Rich and dark. The most powerful of the wines with deeper tannins, aromatic intensity, a longer / longest palate feel. The Richebourg terroir shows through.

Grand Cru Burgundy 1920-1971 (University Club - Chicago IL): From jeroboam. Incredible nose of rose petals, cinnamon, nutmeg, and concentrated mushrooms along with persistent red fruit. Red fruit leads the charge on the palate, equally matched with classic sous bois and good spice. Everything seems in perfect harmony with this wine right now. Crisp acidity comes out on the very long finish adding even more texture. Certainly my favorite wine tonight in an amazing lineup. Quite possibly the best wine I have ever had.

Legends Dinner at La Paulee de San Francisco (Napa Valley Reserve - St. Helena CA): Nose starts with great red fruit, then Asian spice, followed by fresh mushroom aromas. Similar on palate with a great combination of flavors, supported wonderfully by lots of structure. Long and textured. This is an incredibly elegant wine.
