No formal note, as this was consumed yesterday and I was focused on enjoying it vs. making a mental note to post. I’ll just say this was fantastic and in great shape after a few hours in the decanter. Truly a great Napa cab that has at least 5-6 years of prime drinking ahead of it, maybe more.

Wow. Aromas of black berry, cedar, toast and expresso. Rich concentrated black fruits with a deep core and nuanced layers of beautiful spices. Well integrated structure that keeps this lively and fresh. In a gorgeous spot. I could see why the critics love it. Served blind most thought it was a very fine Bordeaux. Awesome wine, bravo. No rush here, but for me it’s at or near peak and close to perfection.

2024 New Year's Day Double Blind Tasting: Double-blind. I did not like this wine. It is waaaaayyyy too young and disjointed. High alcohol, viscous, hot, unidimensional. This is clearly in its awkward dumb phase. I would not open a bottle of this for at least another 10 years. Disappointing. .

Deep ruby colored. Seductive nose with lots of dark and ripe red berries. On the palate black currant, fresh plum, sweet red cherry, blackberries and some dried mint and espresso. Full bodied with a medium acidity. Velvety tannins, nicely integrated. Alcohol is integrated beautifully too. Powerful and elegant at the same time. Lots of fruit but not overdone, more on the precise and elegant side. Quite old world style in my opinion. Fantastic overall balance. Great structure and depth. Savory and super long finish. I can’t really see the 100 points here but it’s definitely an astonishing wine which might become even more interesting in the future. Luckily I have a few bottles left to see how it will evolve. Friday Wine Group - JL (Blind Lunch): Tasted blind - Deep red in the glass, nose of plumb/raisin, and dark fruit; In my limited experience, the typical Dominus style of deep, dark black and blue fruit, with high tannins. Could taste some oak, which I remember from other vintages. I discussed how this reminded me of a younger Dominus, but then called a syrah. I look forward to tasting more vintages to see how the style evolves.

wow, this was great over two nights... unlike my '08 magnum a week ago (which was totally shut down - at least I hope the was the problem), this had true depth, but with elegance -- a great pairing and hard to find... decanted three hours and I could tell it was already giving fruit and some elegant spices / wood spice, fruit was purple to dark side, next night really opened up with fruit more out to play, complex 'other flavors' swirling around, great lift and acidity... think this can go at least another 10 or maybe even 15 years... sadly my only bottle of the '10

Popped and tasted. Drank with a 6 hour decant. initial impression:Very tight with notes of blueberry and cherry, bright tannins, odd anise like finish.
Three hours in Blueberries with dark fruit. Slight hint of earth with kirsch and garrique with a moderately long finish.
Six hours: Dark fruit ( plum) with berry notes, chocolate and cedar on the finish. The finish was quite long.
Day two: notes are similar to 6 hours with noosing of decline!
Drinking very well now but needs air to develop. Will continue to improve with cellaring.

We opened our first bottle of Dominus Estate 2010 and it was dead. No flavor, no life. It was stored properly and there was no sign of damage to cork or seal. Any theories what might have happened to this bottle? We have one bottle left. Any suggestions about how to look for problems with it? Thanks!
big wine, currants, cassis, blackberries, spice, minimal secondary characteristics, firm tannins, much too young right now, will be much more enjoyable in 5-10 years, and then with years and years to go

Dominus Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL): An engaging combination of black plum and cherry with even more complex sweet and savory spice. Ripe while balanced with Old World character. Good weight to start, but bigger and more dense towards finish. So good now, with clear upside.

Charleston V - the wooden anniversary; 11/6/2019-11/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Of all of the younger vintage wines that we had this night this was one of my favorites. There's a nice restraint to it (at least compared to other new world). Very well set-up. Lots of plum notes. Fruit is not overripe but more moderate. This is going to be great, just needs more time to integrate.

Great voluptuous nose. Lots of dark berries on the palate, still too young in my opinion, a little closed in the moment. This definitely needs at least another 6 years in the cellar and long decanting time.

Served blind against 11 other top shelf 2010 Cabernet based wines from around the world and this was my favorite (group's #2 after Leoville Poyferre, my #4). Old world meets new wold. Dark rich dense blackberry aromas with coffee notes. A ripe velvety texture with deep pure dense dark fruit profile infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cocoa. Well integrated sweet tannin offers a very pretty frame and unusually long finish. So well made and offers tremendous hedonistic pleasure and elements to ponder. Long way to go with possible upside as just entering drinking window.

Nice, this came across as more old world compared to the Schrader which is not surprising. Graceful and elegant with a 20 minute decant. Moderate tannin integration and a redwood note at the finish. Nice.

QUIET LION and others have this spot on. Still young, after about an hour of decanting it turns over a melange of black and red fruit along with hints of mint chocolate and Harvey’s Bristol Cream. Super smooth and polished. The nose was somewhat reticent but offered an interesting evolution from stewed fruit to earth to bay leaf spice. What I thought particularly interesting was that while this is clearly a left bank styled wine/Cabernet dominated the polish and smoothness suggests hints of Pomerol (guess that is the Mouiex style?). 95-96+

Decanted over cocktails and served. This is the first time I've opened a Dominus so young and no regrets. It's a delicious swirl of primary notes including chocolate, Chambourd, new leather, and a touch of soy sauce. Room for improvement with age.
Nose this and you will have greats dreams. Great mouth feel. Silky and inky tannins. Starting to develop with a late sweetness. Very interesting. The acidity and complexity to last

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Eucalyptus, cassis, sexy oak, density on the nose, pencil lead, boxwood, dense black and purple fruit, young; good richness with solid acid, spicy, licorice, blackberry, cassis; really delicious now but needs time to get added complexity.

This bottle was brooding and jet black. Power and dry extract swirling just below the surface showing flashes but was held into near perfect check. Not a fruit bomb.. elegant, dark fruit, leather, a mineral streak that is ‘dry’. Epic wine, long life.

Vinetasters- Dominus from 1983-2014 (Holiday Inn, Skokie IL): Nose: The nose is rich and dense with dark red cherries, cranberries, red currants, cocoa powder, cedar, sweet tobacco, licorice, herbs, and violets. There is a lot of depth with a glossiness to the tones.
Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and chewy, high tannins. The tannins are very youthful and dominate while there is some alcohol sting on the back end. Though the structure is clearly youthful, there is a lot to like underneath with dark red cherries, cranberries, red currants, cocoa powder, cedar, tobacco, licorice, and violets.
Overall: This was my #6 and the group's #4. This is very young and I would really like to check in on it again with some more age on it. It just feels in an awkward stage at the moment.

Vinetaster's does Dominus 1983-2014 (Holiday Inn NorthShore): A big wine that retains very nice balance. Dark dense sweet aromas of red berries and lavender. Nicely extracted with red fruits and a hint of green peppers in a deeply rich pure style. A touch warm and not overly nuanced at this youngish age, but long sweet finish portends more ahead here with time. My #3/12 wines and groups #4.

Hard to rate this wine because it's so clearly an amazing wine but it's not drinking very well right now out of the bottle. It's very closed down but the quality of the bones here are tremendous. I actually put it back in the bottle and into the fridge to drink it tomorrow night in hopes that it opens up between now and then. UPDATE: After 2 full days of sitting in the fridge after being decanted for an hour and then put back into the bottle and corked, this improved a lot and is now wonderful. This wine is just really a baby at this stage and needs several more years or else a full day of air to show well.

Tough one to grade as it was basically torn apart by being served right after a stunning winner bottle of Montrose 1990 and a 2004 red label Giacosa. This was much more primary and simple and the malolactic notes extremely pronounced following the two more elegant wines. However, the wine was luxuriously rich, well balanced and in fact quite lively despite it's 15% abv and warm climate upbringing. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, dark and liqueured berries and the ripest tannins you could dream of in a 6yo full bodied cab. But all that diacetyl! Almost too much.

What a fantastic wine. It was clearly that it should have some time and after more than 60hours it was peeking. Very smooth and still with the right acid. But I guess it will be better to drink it without decanting in 60,h. by waiting 5-10 years at least. Anyway the best California Cab I have ever tried by far. Even though it's not that typical California. More like smooth Pomerol on fire. If that makes sense

Dark impenetrable purple. Charcoal, lead pencil, dark fruit and exotic spice on nose which is still quite subdued. Deep, luxuriant palate with long finish. PNP - this would certainly have benefited from a much longer aeration. Delicious and only hinting at its full potential.

Among the top 3 wines I have ever tasted. Way better than the '09 Dominus. Lush, powerful, perfectly balanced. As smooth a finish for a wine this big as one can imagine. 45 min decant, then had this with a filet-a slice of heaven. No way I could hold on to another bottle for the ten years in the cellar it deserves.

95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Gorgeous nose of black currant, plum, liquorice, and asphalt. Big and bold in the mouth, but not overripe, with ripe but significant tannins, nice acidity, and a lingering finish of dark fruit and spice. Good now through 2045+.

A Matter of Taste: London Edition (Saatchi Gallery, Chelsea): Perfection on the nose, an absolutely flawless combination of restrained fruit, mild herbs and cut flowers. I could not look away. Amazingly approachable, powerful yet in perfect balance. Plums, soy, grippy tannins. Such a baby but it should not take long. Menthol, herbs and tar on the finish. Easily the WOTF.

Dominus Master Class - A matter of taste (Singapore): Dark purple. Expressive nose of dark fruit, earthy notes and the typical mint and eucalyptus scents of Napa. On the palate this marries ripeness with structure, really squaring the circle. A really great Dominus, still young but if you can't resist decant for 2h and try a bottle. Otherwise wait until 10 years bottle age and something great is awaiting you. With 100 points and a Moueix (=Petrus) affiliation the price tag is quite high, but then again compared to the cult micro estates (Screaming Eagle, Harlan & Co.) is is almost a bargain...

"Matter of Taste" - Dominus Masterclass (Singapore Art Museum Glass House): Last wine of the masterclass. Apart from the '02, this was my other favourite wine. In fact, this was quite similar with the '02 on the nose - cedar, sandalwood; Except it was much bigger (with a bit of heat). Chocolates, currants... This was dense, intense and concentrated but still managed to come across as a "pretty" wine, perhaps due to the Petit Verdot which we were told was part of the cepage. Beautifully balanced, with good structure and tannins hiding behind the fruit. Long.

Dominus Master Class - A matter of taste (Singapore): On the nose this is clearly more oaky and herbal than the previous vintages. Starting to close down on the palate now? Very clearly dominated by the Cabernet Sauvignon here. According to EM a vintage of extremes with a cold start an a very hot summer. Confirming the unusually high CS share with 95% CS and 5% PV (the CF did not mature well as it had closed down due to extreme temperatures)

Dominus Masterclass (Robert Parker's Matter of Taste, Singapore) (Singapore Art Museum): Very restrained at this point of time. Tight and holding back. Lots of power and intensity. This will be a huge wine with beautiful full flavours and tannins in the future. It has a very large juicy tannic structure. Aging is definitely required. At least 10 years or more. Very promising future. Not worth the 100pts now but could be in time.

2014 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/14/2014-10/21/2014 (New York City, NY): This opaque crimson/ruby wine is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. It is a huge, masculine offering which screams for cellar time right from the get-go. Intense aromas and flavors of black currants, tar, pipe tobacco, dried herbs and graphite are followed by similar flavors wrapped in a full-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%) and massively tannic frame. There is nice purity of fruit which persists in the middle. The wine closes with a lengthy but astringent finish. All of the "raw materials" are here...this wine simply needs some time (and patience)! Drink 2022-2040.

First off, this is an epic wine that was not meant for immediate gratification. Deep blue violet core with a brilliant red violet rim. It's tight, a bit closed, but impeccable balance, very pure, dances across the palate like Nijinsky. The tannins are fine, but are firming up as it leads into a mouth full of complex goodness. An array of flavor burst into a super long finish that last what seems like for minutes. There's plenty of character, acidity, and stuffing built for the long haul. I would not try this one for another 5-7 years, and expect this wine to start strutting its stuff in 10-15+ years and hold for another 2-3 decades. I can still taste it. Epic

Very young and will age very nicely. Quite shocked at the low 90's reviews on here. Seems to be a case of "if Parker says its high, we'll say its low - just cause Parker said its high". Seems to be a lot of that on this site. Either way a great wine if you have that kind of palate. Will need quite a bit of cellaring to get to full potential, which will be fantastic.
Dark garnet colored, full bodied, firm, dense concentrated complex layers of black fruits, black tea, creosote and anise with hints cedar of spice and dark chocolate with firm tight but well integrated tannins on the finish.

I've tasted nearly every vintage of Dominus and drank cases and cases of it over the last 15 years. It is simply my favorite American wine by a substantial margin. Calling the 2010 a 100 pt wine is absolutely insane and I found no resemblance to the Dominus I know anywhere in the bottle(the '09 was similar, but still had some character). While this is a very nice wine that certainly deserves a mid-90s score when it develops, I'm just shocked it says Dominus on the label. I could talk about nice fruit and pretty balance, but I'll leave that to others... Sign Me, Profoundly Disappointed

Napa Valley Tour; 4/11/2014-4/15/2014 (French Laundry,Meadowood,Colgin,Araujo,Harlan....): Tasted at the Estate following our visit. Decanted for 3 hours and needs its time as the wine kept evolving. From a very difficult vintage, where the sun burned a lot of the crop and this is almost 95% Cab Sauv. Dark inky red in colour. Very young of course but not corse in any way. Mocha notes , light pepper, light herby at times. On the palate it is fresh and rich and vigorous sorting has kept away the cooked, stewed fruit this vintage should have had. Pretty solid wine but needs time.

Hedonistic for sure, but still has all the classic Dominus structure and complexity that (for me) makes this a cut above so many premium Napa Cabernets. Rich fruit, earth, cedar, oak. Already delicious but will be so much better with several more years of bottle age.

Cellarmasters Saturday Dominus vertical tasting: 1991, 1997, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009 & 2010. 2010 although young showed very well after a 5 hour decant. Fine sweet tannins that are surprisingly mellow. Beautiful palate of spice, dark chocolate, vanilla, black tea and a very primal notes. Long balanced finish that is drinking well now with a long decant, but will be fantastic with another 10+ years of cellaring. Great line up of wines. 2010 was in the top 3 best wines for almost everyone.

Structured, powerful, tanninc and crisp, there is a lot of earth, cassis, blackberry and earth in the character. This is a more, classic, structured style of Cabernet Sauvignon that will demand time in the cellar before popping a cork.
Due to the weather conditions, the Cabernet Franc grapes were not included in the blend which ended up as being 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. This explains why the wine lacks the same level of lushness found in 2009.

not blind, Best vintages of Dominus, all bottles perfectly stored (subcription) and decanted for 2 hours
Modern powerful style, A lot of extract and alcohol. Black currant. At the beginning too muscular but after half hour more elegant. Could be a giant. 95+

Thanks!
