Decanted over an hour. Rich and spicy. A little much for me and the finish seemed to be a little disjointed. Definitely a bolder style which is less my cup of tea these days. Jill enjoyed it.

A great Napa "valley floor" cab. Much more balanced than the last one we had -- maybe improved with age? Good fruit -- tons of life left -- unfortunately, our last bottle!

Slow Oed for sev hours prior to dinner. Dark in glass. New world napa cab. Still young. Aging might cont to develop this. Nice now without flaws. Drank alongside some old world wines tonight. Good contrast.

continue to find this overly aggressive in the mouth. Sweet tobacco, oak and bitter tannin. Creosote and burnt blueberry on the nose. Decanted and drank over 7 hours with little improvement. Long finish that isn't necessarily pleasant.

Pnp. Did this no favors since I could not decant. Was definitely improving with air in the glass. Fruit driven, dark blue color, rich wine. Nose of chocolate covered blueberries. Some tobacco, cocoa, dustiness on the palate. Finish was shorter than hoped.

Could be in rest mode. Took 3+ days to wake up. Tannins more evident than I remember. Nevertheless, can see evidence of great structure and balance. Decant or wait.

The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis). The body is medium/full. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. Overall, very nice.

Very solid Cab with excellent QPR. Expressive aromas of dark macerated cherry, mocha, and soil. Full and lush on the palate. Relatively sweet and integrated tannins on a PNP. Solid value and drinks like cabs costing twice this price point.

3 - 2009 Napa Cabs: Drank over two days. On opening, this is dark purple. The nose has cassis, black raspberries, smoke, and a slight earthiness. Great lush texture. On the palate, much deeper and took some time to open. On Day 2, this is better with black fruits leading the way. Lovely texture. Starting to show some nice complexity. Long finish. No hurry here.

Great wine. Enjoyed with dinner tonight after a 30 minute decant and WOW. Lewelling Ranch! YEAH! This wine was uncorked to a lighter stain than I expected. The nose was rather intoxicating from 2 inches away. This reminded me, in nose, to the 2009 Lewelling Cab. The palate was a little crushed rock in the background along with a very dense, full bodied blackberry and leather. The mid-palate was again a little bit mineral dense in the background, but on the forefront was a wine that showed a little caramel, blackberry spice that was starting to show and some black earth. The finish was not quite as peppery as I expected, but was full bodied. Wonderful wine, and probably a bit of an overpairing with the dinner choice tonight (Margherita pizza). Although it went nicely, it really did kind of compete just a bit. Still a great wine. Very young, and will age beautifully over the next 7 years or so. Drink now with about an hours' decant.

Oh my! Great Juice! Typical cab fruit nose. Dark and inky in the glass. Smooth entry that is complex as well on palate. Finish that lingers for 40+ seconds. Outstanding value. Will continue to purchase future vintages.

Great fruit forward Napa cab. Nice thick consistency with a slight oak that dissipates after a couple of hours in the decanter. Very dark red to purple in color that coats the mouth with a definite "jammy-ness." An excellent QPR.

Drank during the February 2013 blizzard. This is classy stuff. Full bodied & dark violet in color. Sweet tannins and not overly oaked. Plenty of fruit with a hint of earthiness on the medium length finish.

Birthday Dinner for S2 (Chez S1): Semi-slow ox for 2 hours. Bright Napa dark fruits are really forward because of its youth. Gripping tannins with a cedar/charcoal smoke with green mint and menthol and a little alcohol heat. Later some tasty tart red fruits emerge. Haley picked a couple of days before her uncle at Lewelling and it shows. A beautiful wine.

Black currant and leather on the nose, with some smoke and pepper in the middle, and a little cherry, vanilla, and chocolate at the end. Rich and juice on the palate, with black currant and leather, some chocolate and spice on the mid-palate, and a nice cherry and vanilla finish.

Winery Tasting with Hayfork at the Lewelling Ranch which offered a fun and beautiful setting at the Lewelling Ranch. With that said, I thought this was another great rendition of Lewelling grapes. Fruit forward darker berry dominant, balanced sweetness and earth tones throughout the midpate, finish has very good legs. Low 90s but it needs more time to brighten. Good longer term potential. -S

Really delicious wine with plenty of years left. Tannins still present but mellow. Acidity still there with dark plum fruit and cedar.
