Wow, over 5 years since my last btl? This was stunning, and notes from day 2 open. A harmonious blend of sweet red apple, a touch of cranberry, nutty notes, honeyed density and a lovely blend of lift and richness. On the palate: excellent acidity, dark red apple, wet stone, a hint of cranberry and grapefruit pith. Excellent density, soft mousse and a long finish. Still excellent on Day 2.

One of the most complex champagnes of the night showing very differently after a few hours open. Lost the red apple it shows at first to show more brioche and loads of mint and spice. Great acidity and very good finish.

Golden yellow in color. Great nose with loads of red apple, a touch of roasted nuts, meyer lemon, very bright; brioche in the background and just a soft touch. On the palate, vibrant acidity, keeping things very bright; a touch of cranberry and loads of apples. Fine bead, and very delicate effervescence adding great lift. Paired well with raw hamachi with red pepper ponzu.

Mature Rioja (The Medlar, London): Pale straw. Quite fresh with a touch of rounding that accentuates with air. Initially feels quite Chardonnay rich, though it opens and rounds in the glass. Served blind this feels like 02 or possibly a fuller 04. Surprisingly approachable for Lanson. Works nicely as an aperitif but could carry in to food. ****

Just sat and enjoyed listening to Vivaldi so no notes other than nice vintage expressing age, texture, full mouth feel, brioche and citrus flavors. Very nice. Sometimes I just have to sit back relax and enjoy the forest beyond the trees.

NobleRottersSydney - Christmas Lunch 2012 (Geoffrey's place): [cork, 12.5%] Developing, yeasty nose. Bright toasty flavours, plenty of yeast influence; a touch cheesy in its flavours; seems very chardonnay dominant. Medium bodied, with plenty of acid still, it has medium-sized bubbles and a medium length finish. Good, if not quite to the standard I recall of the 1999 and 1996.

A golden yellow in colour, with brioche, savoury peach and a slight hint of blue cheese complexity on the nose.
The wine has an incredibly fine bead, with citrus stained peach integrating with the more leesy, rich brioche characters on the palate.
The acidity is wonderfully precise and clean, tapering the rich mid to back palate.
A well priced vintage champagne.
