Black cherry, spice and leather on the nose. Medium plus bodied, with nice dark black cherry and sweet red fruit. Nice dryness to the tannins, which lead into a medium length finish with a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Plum and ether on the nose; on the palate, tart cherry, plum, and notes of anise and vanilla, with moderate acidity and a medium finish. Good, but nothing special, and average value at $20.

Dark purple, opaque in the glass. Nose of plum and ETOH. Palate repeats plums, cherry, licorice on the finish. Fine grained tannins. Even a hint of ripe strawberry. Nice accompaniment to paste (cheese ravioli) with plenty of acidity for the food and tomato sauce.

The wine is clear and bright with a deep garnet colour and presence of dense slow-falling legs. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium+ intensity aromas of ripe dark plums, sour cherries, lavender, liquorice, vanilla and cedar. The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium+ acidity. It has medium+ fine-grained tannins and a high warm alcohol. It has a medium body and medium+ intensity flavours of dark plums, sour cherries, lavender, liquorice and cedar. The finish is medium+.
It is a very good quality wine with a nice fruit concentration well-balanced by the refreshing acidity, a decent finish and a moderate degree of complexity provided by floral and oaky notes. However it could be even more complex. Can drink now, but it has enough acidity, tannins and fruit concentration to develop more complex tertiary aromas in the next 3-5 years.

Powerful - needed aeration just to smooth it out a little. The wine could easily last a couple more years, and probably benefit from it, but the cork didn't look like it would go the distance. Great with spicy Italian pasta.

Classic Barbera-nose with dark cherry, sage, licorice, raspberries, violets and some coffee beans. Medium+ intensity of aromas and the nose is developing.
Dry, full-bodied on the palate with med+ acidity, tannin and alcohol. I get flavors of dark cherry, violets, dark chocolate and fresh herbs. Finish is medium with medium intensity of flavors.
Very typical Barbera and surprisingly light on the oak for being one of Spinettas wines. Drinking ok today but I would give it more time for the tannins to settles down and get some dirty/leathery aromas. Perfect for rich dishes from the Italian kitchen.

Lots of herbs and cherry fruit on the nose and it sees new wood although I don't get that quite yet on the nose. I guess that is buried in the cherry fruit of the nose. Palate is vibrant and jumpy, lots of drive on the back end. Big, yet also moves it along and is thirst quenching.

Just what you look for in a d'asti and the price makes it a deal. Cherry and a touch of strawberry, alcohol burns thru a bit much. Drink up, it isn't going to get better.

Restaurant bottle; popped and poured. Initially, very closed on the nose and fizzy on the palate and very dry. After several hours (brought half home), a very pleasant nose - floral, leather, chocolate and cherry. Medium to slightly heavy body with a nice balance of red fruit and acidity. Lots of fine tannin, but a nice, long finish. No fizz. A heavier wine that one does not need to rush opening yet.

Second last Barbera of our collection, as part of our full immersion in to this grape. Goal: to feel confident enough to pick it at blind tastings. However, we find this grape bland or ... slick. No coherent aroma-handles for us. The expressions in Piemonte ranges from Beaujolais to massive Napa Cab and the aromas range from tiny, bashful red fruits to dark and massive, chocolatey aromas via roses and violets...
This btl has a quality of rather matured, rasiny, berries on the palate. Slight percieved sweetness. Strong acidic structure, hollow mid-palate, and ending short. Tannins are M- and don't add to this wine's structure. A bland wine speaking Italian, for sure, but... I always expect a lot from La Spinetta, and this btl doesn't deliver.
Blinded, this one has so many more markers for a Corvina Ripasso than for a Barbera...
I don't (yet) get it with his grape. One last try for tomorrow's lunch.
There was a stewed prunes flavor on this finish of this that wasn't typical of Barbera. No obvious damage to the wine (cork OK, etc.) but maybe this was not a good bottle. No obvious flaws so I won't buy this again.
Definetely needs a lot of air to give everything. First very harsh and sharp but rounds a lot in the glass. Nice sweet fruits, a bit acid, round, chewy finish.

Dark - earth, smoke and coffee. Smooth on the palate with dark tar and licorice. Inky, earth, cassis.Nose: 4/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 4/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5-1/2 = 13-13.5/20.

Woody spice and some forest floor/umani , followed by some dark red fruit, almost feel like a Rhone wine. The palate is a bit thin, and mineral, almost salty aftertaste with wood influence, but then it delivers a beautiful ripe fruit finish. A very characterful Barbera, better served around 14 celsius for the fruit.

Light red colour with a brick-red hue. (Half bottle) The nose shows maturity with hints of leather, earth and forest and a nice mineral tone mixed with cherry. The palate is round and with soft tannines with a lot of fruit and with a fresh taste with herbs.

One year in used barrique. Black fruits, blackberries, cassis, earth, graphite and spicy spices. Overall cool impression, medium concentration, ripe fruits and a little bitter finish.
