Has developed nicely. Tannins have softened but still there. Nice acidity…structure to support further aging. Starts to open up after a couple of hours…decant would be helpful at this point. Should easily see its 20th birthday.

On the nose surprisingly fresh and vibrant, gorgeous florals and baking spices. More black than red fruit, excellent integration. Subtle tertiary aromas of truffle, leather, and cigar box. A powerhouse but refined and elegant. I only wished the finish was a bit longer. These beautiful flavours disappeared quite quickly on the tongue.

Very dark red color. Decanted for 30 minutes and drank a glass over 3 hours plus. The nose is showing better than the palate tonight. The nose has plenty of fruit , blackberry, mulberry, almost juicy fruits, wood, damp; the palate still shows the black and blue fruits, but the dried wood and tannins seem to be overtaking the fruit at this point. I've still got one too, so we will see if this was variation or if it is time to drink up. Will likely open over the next year or so.

This has evolved beautifully since I tried it last in 2018. The tannins are partially resolved, but add structure to the dark fruit body. Similar blue fruit and tobacco notes to the nose Added class to our lasagna !
Decanted and drank over an hour. Pretty tight upfront. Developed some mushroom but SO young. We gifted to wait staff. Certainly continued to improve and they would provide best assessment.

Splash decanted, enjoyed with grilled beef and sides.
Minimal bricking.
The wine commanded attention from the outset and improved with air. Old World to its core. Blue and purple berries, violets, sweet and savory herbs, black tea, tobacco, fruit and herbal liqueurs, menthol, and impressive Tuscan terroir.
Concentrated yet lifted, powerful yet impressively seamless. Extraordinary mid palate, delightfully chewy. Knee-weakening notes of Crème de cassis. In its wheelhouse with the sumptuous fare. The only minor drawback: alcohol, which it wears fairly well and the food helped tame.
Young for a robust Super Tuscan at its age. Improvement, however, seems unlikely. Drink or hold for a decade or so. 94-95.

This wine is Exhibit A why my favorite $50-$100 Bordeaux blends come from Italy, not France or the US. It's clean, elegant, and balanced. In comparison with a Howell Mtn cab we're drinking alongside it, the Howell Mtn is extracted, jammy, and top-heavy. The American is still enjoyable, but in comparison, the Italian crushes it. What I like about Sette Ponti and other great Super Tuscan cabs is their purity. They lack the extracted fruit jam of American cabs and the heavy earth/tannin of Bordeaux. The Bordeaux can become better with even more time, but it's best in act two, whereas this shines in act one. This is my final bottle of a half-case of this vintage. I think it's peaking now. Yes, it can last longer, but I love it now.
Brought a magnum of this to share with my 2 cousins and their husband’s for our annual cousins night, no parents, no kids. First time trying the 2010 vintage and I had really enjoyed the 07 and 08 vintages so wanted to share a nice bottle. I was pretty underwhelmed by this bottle. No chance to decant so it might have needed some air time but it was hard to tell the difference in this wine from a $15 Cabernet that my cousin had brought. We got our glasses mixed up a few times and this wine should’ve stood out.
From the perfect 2010 vintage, this wine is still a baby. Very intense deep ruby in the glass. Youthful. Powerful, young, oak dominant nose. Unlike other vintages of Oreno, there is a strong vanilla note. Warm chocolate fondue. Some mint but more of a mint chocolate. Blackberry and blueberry jam with cherries jubilee and vanilla ice cream. Tannins are again very fine and less firm than the 2006 tasted alongside. Powerful acidity. As seems to be common with Oreno, slightly hot. Flavours of burnt cedar, milk chocolate, black cherry and blueberry. Very good length. Hints of heat and tart of the finish. Needs a couple of years and will last for at least a decade
Italian QPR's (Ciao Bella patio): I'D RATHER BE DRINKING WINE's bottle. It's a really well done bordeaux blend, that kind of leans toward the dark side. This wine has always seemed a little too dense for me, and this was the case here. Lots of earth and tobacco, just a touch jammy or extracted.

Double decant to remove sediment (BTW, there wasn't any!), then back in the bottle with no cork and sat in the cellar (54 degrees) for 7 hours - That much time in the cellar was likely not necessary, as this wine probably came together after a couple hours, but I don't think it hurt the wine either, as there was virtually no change throughout the night. This wine was drinking quite well...it showed plenty of red fruit and spice, along with leather and earthy notes, smooth tannins and a rich mouthfeel with acidity balanced out by the fruit and tannin. Very nice wine that drinks remarkably well with a 2+ hour decant, and definitely has a long life ahead of it. 94 with ease today!

Reticent throughout, including on the second day, other than the last glass. The wine has held its unique combination of compact precision and massive structure in ways that most SuperTuscans of this quality and style tend to lose after a decade or so, often turning muddled. (In my opinion, Oreno can go toe to toe with Tig, Orn, Sass (pardon the disrespectful abbreviations), etc., and hold its own. Rock solid! It really needs food, as the listed 14.5 abv, while not overpowering, certainly makes its presence felt. Likely to continue its evolution for several years and hold form for several years thereafter. Recommend drinking by 2030-2032.
Overall, while an exceptional wine, I am less impressed than previous experiences. Here is why: The longer I drink wine, the more I dislike bitterness, whether imparted by oak, excessive pressing or extraction, or under ripe fruit. Bitterness is noteworthy at the back with this, seemingly because of excessive oak treatment and somewhat heavy extraction. The oak imparted bitterness will continue to ingrate, so long as the wine holds form, which should be for no less than five years, but the extraction derived bitterness will likely remain.
Both heavy oak treatment and extraction are part of the international - modern style of wine making, and to express my view mildly, both practices suck! Less is more!
Fourth time I've drunk and rated this wine, and I really think it's smoking good right now. Very smooth and long after just an hour of opening. Hints of secondary flavor development that add complexity to, but don't overshadow, the mature primary fruit. I think this is in the bullseye of its drinking window and encourage owners to open and enjoy it.

PnP immediately after polishing a 1988 Dunn Howell Mountain. Big credit to the Oreno, whose depth and complexity held strong relative to the funk of the older cab. Maybe the comparison is what compels me to believe the Oreno would get even better with more time, as its tannins stood out relative to old Dunn. I previously rated a bottle of 2010 Oreno 92, but whatever the variation (bottles, context, and/or me), I'm bumping this score up.
Follow-up: still going strong on night two. Nice performance for the $.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This opens with some anise and subtle damp earth, and build to reveal a pure streak of cassis, crushed stones, and oregano. The nose gradually pulls everything together in a fine perfume. The palate is velvety, dense, yet feels lighter, just on the lighter side of full bodied. The purity to the cassis fruit is noticeable, racy acidity, prominent graphite, crushed rock minerality, earth, and polished tannins that have a little grip. This is a very solid Bordeaux blend, and it may get a little better with a couple years. 92+(+?)pts.

Dark ruby turning garnet at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off perfumed notes of smoky violets, dried herbs and black currants. The palate is full bodied, divinely balanced with just enough ripe fruit and savory, vibrant acidity. Flavors of black currants, black olives, oregano, bay leaf, seared meat, tobacco and pencil shavings. Such gracefulness and elegance for this cuvée on a great vintage. Finishes long with a hint of eucalyptus and basil. Drinking very well now until 2035.

Decanted. Nose was quite earthy/funky for at least 5 hours in the decanter. After about 5 hours, the nose changed from earth to mild fruit. Taste of dark berries, dusty tannins - enjoyed with pasta. Not the same experience as last encounter 5 years ago.

Solid wine, but nothing that really stood out. I have leaned away from super tuscans lately so that may play a factor. Nice weight, well integrated. Just not that complex or any great flavors popping. Maybe in a slightly shut down/dumb phase

Drinking really well. Dark purple. Nose OK. Full bodied lush ripe bold purple, blue, and red (guess that makes purple) fruit. Tannins and alcohol pretty much gone. Very good finish.
Getting better with age. Last time I tried this was 4 years ago, it’s come together since then but still drinking like a very young wine. Lots of drying tannins on the finish, but approachable and probably best with food. Definitely some room left for improvement in the years to come.

Four hour decant. A little bricking. I have a couple cases of mixed vintages of this wine in the cellar. I’ve tried about four vintages and they rang the bell here. This pops with black cherry, blue fruit and sizzling spice. This bounced around a lot. Opened, tightened, and then blew wide open again. Finishes dry and slightly tight. This will run for years. 91

Dark purple nose of plum and dark fruits some spice. Not too many secondary bouquets. For 50% merlot this is still quite tannic Comparrd to the Capture Harmonie drunk next to it. Body is cassis and dark fruits. Some chocolate notes. Good finish. Wait a few more years for the next bottle.

Off putting taste and nose prior to decanting. I was concerned something was off. Much better after a few hours decanting and even better on day 2 and 3. Dark opaque purple, very tannic and extracted black and purple fruit. 14.5% abv.

Spectacular wine, not nearly at peak. Powerful tannins, scorched earth, smoke, with a distinctively volcanic feeling going on. Deep and dark and black fruited, dark cherry too. There is a sense of bordeaux here but also a bit of new world. Really a nice blend of the two. I think both camps may like this. I loved it, and probably the best qpr of the super Tuscans (not saying a whole lot though).

Decanted for 2 hours. Good on day 1 and day 2. Big. Did I say big? Tons of dark purple and black fruits, tar, licoric, smoke and oak. The tannins are surprisingly balanced. Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Versot. Drinking well now, has years ahead of it too.

Part of a 5 year Oreno vertical(09-13). Opened and tasted over 5 hours. Initially very tight, it fleshed out and got softer after 3 hours. Powerful and dark, lots of potential here. The most potent of the 5. This and the '13 were tough to rate. Needs time.

Tasted over three days. Deep purple with no bricking. This has gone back to sleep. All the components remain, including blackcurrant, blackberry, pomegranate, pepper, peppers, graphite, cured meats, dust, and metallic ores. High acid and medium plus tannins as well. On the third day the bouquet sprang to life, emanating seductive violets and blackberry perfume. Remarkably seamless given its power. These should age gracefully for another fifteen to twenty years and last beyond 2045. The consistently highest quality, most affordable 'Super Tuscan' that can be had, which belongs among the most expensive examples.

Not yet ready! The wine is close and resisting to open. After 6 hours decanting, I barely can detect fruit but cedar and only a hint of blue berry. However, on the palate, it is so complex. Dark berry, licorice, and cocoa powder are found. The ripen tannin makes a good and long lasting. The wine is still too young now, but it will hit a higher score in five or more years (probably to 92~93). This wine should be able to survive for 2 decades.

Drank over three days, alongside a 2010 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nouva Brunello di Montalcino and a 2010 Grand-Puy-Lacoste. Focused bouquet of Italian and red plum, blackberry, blackcurrant, pomegranate, peppers, graphite, Italian herbs, Tuscan dust, ink, charcuterie, tomatoes, and meatiness upon opening. The wine has opened considerably since March 2014. Richness on the attack transitions to a highly appealing texture, backed by powerful weight and structure at the middle and back. The focused and layered finish does not quit.
On the second and third days the wine also added tobacco, thyme, rosemary, sanguinity, and intense minerality. These and all the elements from the first day melded into a pure, harmonious elixir of exceptional depth and complexity, each phase revealing intriguing nuance. Powerful acid, refined tannins, and exquisite balance given its power. Beautiful now, better in time. This is likely a twenty five to thirty year wine from today. If scoring for right now, 97, 98-99 in time. Worth seeking out.
Had to re-try after tasting at room temp in the Emirates lounge a week ago. PnP'd as this was the first wine opened at dinner. Served at cellar temp ~ 60 degrees. A much more approachable & smoother wine, dark blackberries on the nose & palate, with a silky finish. Terrific wine & a solid QPR.

Emirates lounge and served too warm. Dark garnet with translucent rim. This is a big wine almost of new world Shiraz size. There must be plenty of Merlot in the blend with some Cab or perhaps Sangiovese providing the backbone. Lush and round, medium tannins (and some remaining oak) are almost entirely covered. Heat comes through a bit at room temperature (14.5% alc). Good length. Very good wine if not necessarily my preferred style. 93

Tasted in Dubai, in the Emirates lounge. Served at room temperature, still a young wine - but worth a try if you have multiple bottles in your cellar. Dark berry flavors. Slightly chewy, but had a long finish that rewards. Looking forward to tasting again with a proper decant and at the appropriate temperature.

Corvin taste alongside 2010 Saffredi. The nose on this is more new-world compared to the Saffredi, but it does have a nice nuance of forest floor. On the palate, this has good red fruit balanced by nice acidity and has a medium weight profile overall. The tannins have a bit of bite, but it is not drinking badly even though quite young. Not quite as much complexity as the Saffredi. No problems with over oaking or heat. This should be very nice as it ages. Potential for 93-94 points.

A youthful-looking dark, semi-opaque magenta in color. Very pretty aromas of ripe dark fruits, flowers and spice. Full-bodied, rich and very plush in texture. The mouth feel here is akin to liquid velvet. There's impressive depth and concentration to its tangy blackberry and dark currant fruit. Displays wonderful balance too, with a moderate acidity that deftly complements its dense fruit. Prominent notes of smoke, vanilla and violets provide ample complexity to the long, lip-smacking finish. Very nicely crafted and surprisingly approachable for such a young Oreno - though still just a bit tannic. With a few years of cellar time this should develop into one of the best Orenos of the last five vintages. 50+5+12+17+8=92

This wine was very young and showed some youthful exuberance. The color of the wine was very inky and dark purple and on the palate, there were lots of dark purple fruits that were present but slightly muted. This will be a fabulous wine with time. Although this is enjoyable now, I would strongly suggest holding off for another 4-5 years.

LOVELY. A meaningless descriptor, I know, but you have to understand that I was sitting there with a soulless Guado al Tasso (also a '10) that tasted and smelled of nothing but oak so the Tuscan perfume and lithe palate presence of the Oreno was especially welcome and impressive. Must buy me some.

Possibly the blackest wine i recall having from tuscany. Not a good start. However the nose comes alive - black fruit and distinct wild herbs that transport you to tuscany. No native grapes, but lots of tuscany anyway here. On palate the oak is still present, with blackberry and again that tuscan earth and herbs. A serious wine, not like some flabby vintages of past Orenos. The best Oreno ever (but I have rarely loved it so take that praise with a pinch of salt). 93+
Tenuta Sette Ponti Wine Tasting and Seminar (Specs Austin, TX (Brodie Lane)): Enjoyed at a winery sponsored tasting event with the property owner. Blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. Expressive nose of black currants, black fruits, violets, expresso, and earthiness. Absolutely gorgeous, balanced, and structured. Long, long finish. Equal to the 2006, but not quite as good as the 2004.
Drank over two days; dark purple in color. Opened mid afternoon, poured off a couple of ounces, lingered over the glass, and let the bottle sit for a few hours. Reticent nose and incredibly tight from the outset, the 2005 Pavie was open by comparison. By late evening, the nose began to reveal bay leaf, savory elements, Mediterranean herbs, Tuscan terroir, and red meats. The palate showed exceptional richness and depth. Loads of fine dusty tannins dance gracefully across the tongue, clamp down at the back, and hold on through a generous finish. The wine was equally tight on the second day, though it showed more sanguinity and put on more weight.
I sampled the 2007 vintage last year, compliments of Bam_Man, and that wine was sleek, elegant, and sexy by comparison. This vintage is built for the long haul; it is massively concentrated and made in weighty, almost muddy style. If rating for right now, 94-95 points all day...but I expect this will score 96-97 points in several years. 94-97.
Beautiful aromas of dark fruit are the first thing that greets you from the glass. This wine is dense and rich with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still way too young though, as the oak is still very prominent and the palate is dominated by tannins. There is considerable depth of flavors benath those tannins. This should have a promising future but patience is required. My best guess is don't open one of these anytime in the next 5yrs.

Decanted for two hours. Dense and chewy, there's an angelic end that floats and is effervescent. Blackberry, truffle, basil, olive and brick. Layered in a precise and Masonic way, then there's an infinite reach to the finish. Destined to observe for many years. Similar to the '06; there's this Tuscan ending that shows a true sense of place. Drink 2018 - 2033.
VERY!!! closed off but enormous complexity/potential when you imagine what’s under the bitter tannic surface. Wait at least 5 years otherwise you’re just wasting money. We decanted this Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot for 6 hours.

Scorched earth. Did not decant and it needed a few hours to open up. Not as complex as I hoped. Try again in two years and decant.

Nice wine, but this still needs more time in the cellar or a long decant.
Drank this over 2 days, with an initial hour decant. Smoothed out on the second day, but tannins still present.
Dark fruits with Sour cherry, spices and herbal flavors. Still has strong tannins and youthful profile.
Will give this another 3 - 5 years in the cellar before I try another one.
