I too thought this wine is a bit modern in style, but very enjoyable. I also found it a bit reserved on the nose, fruit hidden behind slightly damp forest floor. Lots of fruit comes at you on the palate, and then minerality and well-integrated tannins dominate the finish.

93 pts
91 AM: Tasting note: A lightly spiced nose evidences a hint of smoke as well as plenty of minerality on the ripe cassis, plum and violet infused nose. There is excellent richness and mid-palate concentration to the suave, round and mouth coating flavors that possess fine delineation before terminating in a mineral-inflected, dusty and impressively persistent finish. Lovely

Wonderful attractive complex savoury (brambles in a forest, mushrooms, beets) aroma. Fresh, rich palate. Oak plays an important flavour role, but it’s integrated.
Seriously good wine.
Drink over the next 5 years. No reason to wait. No rush either.

Équilibré et long. Boire d'ici 2025.

Belle longueur. Un Volnay atypique mais franchement délicieux. 92-93 pts

Richer on the 2nd night, on the first night I was impressed by the acid core, still am but now it’s put on some weight. This isn’t instantly recognisable as Volnay but nor is it likely to ever turn into fruitcake Pinot.
Good stuff.

Wow. Absolutely gorgeous and still a baby. Open about 2 hours. Fragrant rose petals and freshly cut cherries and pomegranate. Light touches of peppery truffles and moist earth. Gorgeous slightly darker fruit on the palate. Feminine and delicate. Very much an Old World light skinned grape. Lush but fresh finish. Very floral again. Lovely wine with some tannin still left to integrate. Try back in about 5-7 years and this can go for 10-15 more easily.

A Survey of Volnay (Chicago, IL): A mild bit of reduction, but with some beautiful red fruit on the nose here. This is definitely a wine with a slightly heftier composition on the nose. That shows on the palate, with a slight bit of burnt rubber, but the overall fruit composition in this wine is outstanding. It’s so cheerful and bright, and the red berries are absolutely compelling. I think at the end of the day, this is a wine that needs more time resolve. My 9th, group’s 4th.

Alcohol comes on a big strong today, but clearly has the stuffing to age for years. A little bit of sauvage today, with a long finish of red berries. Wishing i had held it for a few more years.

Tight at first, then started to loosen up to show Florals and red berries, with lots of fine grained tannins and lift. Young but approachable with lots of upside potential

This was excellent and surprisingly approachable at this early age. Very bright and elegant with pure red cherry and florals. I'd call this a benchmark, young Volnay.

Strawberry, rose petals, mineral, and bright red cherry, with some baking spice notes on top. Still very youthful, this has a racy acidic backbone. As the fruit evolves, this should continue to impress.

A unimpressive 2010 Burgundy and shockingly wide open. A soft round wine that is obviously less vibrant/structured today with a green note that spreads across the palate.

Do all roads lead to Burgundy? Yes they do! While this wine still has many years to go, it is drinking beautifully now. I love the earth, mineral, mushroom, and spice on the nose. Very expressive in the glass. The finish contains bright red berry fruit with great purity. A slight citrus, orange rind grippy finish that will no doubt mellow out with some time in the cellar. Love it!
Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Bin 75): Ruby core with reddish maroon rim; new and fresh nose, sweet tart red fruit, some sulfur, rock underneath; very tart on the palate, sour dark red fruit, a certain leanness, very rocky, sappy, lingering sour cherry on the finish; delicious; 91+.

Double Blind $80 - $100 (Bin 75): Bright maroon to rim; Burg, medicinal, cherry, sour, plum skin, sweet, juicy, limestone; some clay, harder on the palate, cherry pit but sweeter, concentrated, almost closed, masculine; good, would like to see it unwind a bit.

PnP. Brilliant, if tightly coiled aromatics of sappy strawberry/raspberry, minerals, and spice.
Flavors repeat on the palate with good freshness, and the tannins are obviously young but moderate enough to enjoy now. Just a hint of underlying green notes which adds to its freshness and complexity. Finishes medium plus, with good persistence. Balances masculine and feminine qualities very well. An excellent Caillerets.

Big floral nose. Good balance and medium weight palate of violets, tart cranberry/cherry fruit, and subtle oak framing toward the back. Actually really loved the oak level and overall tannin level of this wine. Very judicious and synergistic.

Rubinrot. Sehr rotfruchtig, extrem floraler Vertreter seiner Zunft.

A deeply coloured Volnay with real depth and concentration. Its loaded with sweet black cherry fruits and has a creaminess a la 2009 but with more supportive structure and a big lick of spicy oak. There are notes of liquorice and violets and it is stony on the finish and possesses great length.
