Last bottle, drinking quite well now. Largely unchanged from my previous note except cherry has taken over for rhubarb and the structural elements have integrated. Not sure if it will improve with more time but should drink well for several more years.

CA Trousseau Fest (AP Milwaukee): Light hue, like a rosé. Refrained nose of dried flowers, spice, and plummy fruits. Light body, with flavors of root vegetables and cranberry fruits tinged with herbaceous green notes. Although this became more lively with food, overall it lacked expression and seemed to be a bit closed (or perhaps just reflective of the vintage).

Translucent pink/rose color. Strong cranberry and orange scents. Tastes like cranberries. Light bodied. Lacks a bit of intensity for me. I could use more acid. Turns cranberry juice-ish with time. Pleasant and pretty, though.

Deep, cloudy rosé color. Bright and enticing nose of sweet melon and red berries, very pinot-like. A bit watery and fumy on the palate, growing surprisingly tannic through the finish. Not scored. Bob H brought to WB at Tornado.

Tart cherry, rose petals, reticent nose. Perfumy and velvety. Finish is long but drying. Some left over on day three and the fruit is much more front and center--tart strawberry, nice acidity.

Almost a dark rose' in color, this has an enticing nose of cranberry, red raspberry, rhubarb, fennel and spice. The palate shows rhubarb, raspberry, spice & garrigue. Medium acidity/tannins, pleasantly surprising for a wine of this color. Really curious to see how this ages, open one now if you have more than one but no rush.

PopnPour, tasted over 3 hrs and Day 2 -semi-translucent brickish red, almost looks like an old Burg -gorgeous aromatics of raspberry, rhubarb pie, pomegranate, baking spices -med+ acidity, lightweight frame with substantial mid-palate sap, fairly complex red fruits/spice/medicinal with a crystalline purity and decent length, med tannins sneak in after an hour of air -delicate but substantial, a WIN for fans of aromatically-driven lighter weight reds, very good now but will also be interesting to see how this develops over a few years, more interesting than the 2010 tasted on release 2 years ago

Last bottle was flawed. Not this one. An alluring cranberry color introduces this wine to the eye of the drinker, setting the tone for the goodness to come. Aromas of red fruit greet the nose followed by a palate of strawberry, cranberry and just the right amount of bitterness, mounted on a frame of the perfect amount of acid and a quality mouthfeel. Fruit flavors became more enhanced as the wine opened up. Paired well with salmon with sesame oil, soy sauce and honey. This is a quality rose-red hybrid of sorts. Count us as A-N fans.

onion skin appearance, dusty herbal at first, intriguing and subtle, with crushed rock red strawberry and porcini mushrooms. med+ acid and med+ tannin. medium minus body, honestly if not for the med+alcohol, a dead ringer for young barbaresco. should have waited longer, only thing it lacked was a certain concentration and intensity to match its complexity

First time drinking Trousseau and I found the wine very enjoyable. It's a wine that startles the red and white wine worlds without being a rose. Overall, this red wine is light and refreshing rather than heavy or ponderous.
Arnot-Roberts's treatment of this wine is lovely. Some fine sediment in bottle after several months of rest; light in color and expressing a delicate, but intriguing hue, somewhere between rose and very old Pinot Noir. Nose of strawberry and light flowers. The palate had a tiny bit of spritz just for a second when first opened, which blew off very quickly. The palate is delicate, with pronounced wild strawberry flavors. Balanced with good acidity and no meaningful RS; it reminds me of a combination of strawberries served in Beaujolais. Also, a bit of watermelon rind. Quite enjoyable. Sever slightly chilled. Would purchase more next time if offered.

Served lightly chilled. Bright red in color, darker than a Rose. Looking almost like a fruit punch. Aromas of fresh strawberry and cranberry, yet also a bit floral. Flavors of strawberry and cranberry at the front, but with a strong acidity, crisp tannins and a long, dry finish. Very nice.

Popped and poured. Outstanding nose of wild strawberry, rose petal, tart cherry juice, and plum skin. It took a while for the bouquet to fully develop, perhaps about an hour. This wine tastes electric, the acidity is so vibrant and carries along a current of strawberry and tart cherry, red apple, grape stem, and subtle herbaceous notes. We were all enthralled with this wine. The finish is a burst of red fruit, very appropriate.

Dark for a rose. Moderately aromatic nose of strawberry. Fresh strawberry entrance gives way to good acidity and much more tannin than one would normally find in a rose. Pepper on the finish. I agree with previous reviewers that this wine really shone when paired - in our case with quinoa and asparagus. Typical for the Arnot-Roberts profile.
Cherry and almond paste on the nose. Lots of acid on the palate along with dusty tannins on the finish. The discrepancy between the sweet-ish, slightly confected nose and the tart palate gave me pause. Once paired with food, though, the wine really shone. Paired wonderfully with a very saffrony chicken paella

Is it a red? Is it a rosé? Not really sure, so let's call it a very light red. Lots of crisp cranberry and strawberry fruit, some spicy notes and a finishing bitterness that was kept in check by food. Overall a tasty wine that could work very well in the right weather/cuisine context.

Lovely rose color; the rest? Not sure what all the singing is about. On the first day the nose had a chemical structure superimposed on a soft fruity almost strawberry fragrance with a palate which was not well integrated. Came together somewhat on the second day with a palate almost of flat champagne and a prolonged bitterness that lasted well after the glass was done. None of the brightness described below. Flawed? Will hold my second bottle for 6 to 12 mos and retry.

Taste: Lighter bodied with medium/high acidity. There is a slight bit of lacking on the palate, but there are very nice tones of red fruits, cherries, and floral tones.
Overall: This was a pretty wine. There is good balance on both the nose and palate with it playing to the lighter side.

Saturday with David White (Domaine Wine Storage & Sun Wah - Chicago, IL): A really nice wine. Had that light berry, floral and brambly nose that Trousseau can have. The palate was juicy and energetic with great acidity, a nice earthy component and then vibrant red fruit. The fruit was more vivid that most of the Trousseau I've had from the Jura, but the fruit an airy coolness that was quite nice.

A transparent pinkish-orange color, beautiful like a sunset, with a delicate nose of fresh-picked strawberries. The wine seems as fragile as spider's silk but matches it in strength with an acid tang that brings water to the mouth. Strawberries a day before ripeness start the palate, which moves to earth, and finishes with a lingering acidity and pleasant bitterness. A fantastic wine were it from California or the Jura!

Cantaloupe colored when you hold a glass up to a light. Dry, particularly on the mid-palate. Some acid with a little bit of almost strawberry. Looks like a sturdy rosé in color and has some of the fresh strawberry/raspberry aromas you would expect in rosé but with more earth and depth. I get some of the funk I would expect from Sancerre rouge and a bit of black pepper on the finish. I would prefer a bit more acid but overall the balance is pretty good with only 12% alcohol. Served with crêpes of leftover Thanksgiving turkey, caramelized onion and garlic and cave-aged Gruyère--good pairing.

12.3% alcohol. Tasted slightly chilled. Light, transparent ruby red. Wonderful, floral aromas redolent of rose petals. On the palate, this wine is light and vibrant with a sweet red fruit (strawberries?) core. Excellent balance, surprisingly lingering aftertaste.
So what is Trousseau? Robinson ("Wine Grapes") states that Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc are siblings. Jura (France) is its primary home. I was introduced to this variety a month or so ago with through a Copain version. I like this variety from both producers and will continue to explore it.

Day 2 and still very refreshing. And yes, I have seen darker rosé. Ripe cherry palate. Baked cherry. Very easy balance for such light body. More fruit driven than not, but a touch of spiced cherry. A little bit of a waxy note on the palate.

While I applaud Duncan and Nathan for their efforts to promote obscure French varietals such as Trousseau in California (I am only aware of two CA wineries that produce a trousseau, with the other being Copain), I found this to be disappointing. A beautiful light ruby color, akin to a dark rosé with an alluring nose of wild strawberries, rose petals, and fall foliage. On the palate, however, this is quite light bodied, with some moderate acidity and mild tannin, seeming quite dilute in the midpalate. This unfortunately lacks the nerve and energy, as well as the appealing mineral qualities, of its peers from the Jura. An interesting experiment, but I prefer to stick with the original, especially when top examples from Puffeney and Tissot (even Ganevat) sell for less.
