Riesling and Some Reds: Beautiful medium deep gold color. 2.5oz pour over 40 minutes. Almost a little spritzy, honey, nectarine, stone minerals, light fusil on the nose. The palate is energized, nectarine, honey, fusil, round, lighter body, balanced and long. Really hitting the sweet spot. Tied for my WWOTN.
NOSE: strong diesel; hint of botrytis; honey and pineapple; assertive, but not brash.
BODY: rich golden yellow color; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: moderately powerful flavor; woodsy spice; ripe tropical fruits; a bit of botrytis; light for an Auslese, but has incredible focus, and is well-balanced with wonderful acidity; not nearly as lively now, 44 hours after opening, as it was the first couple hours after popping the cork; very short finish; 7.5% alc.; certainly not a whack-you-over-the-head Auslese, but I enjoyed this wine a lot. Gut impression score: low 90's.
Others liked this better than me tonight -the wine was very shut down aromatically and while the flavors were good overall, my impression was more of a fat wine lacking some of the verve and precision i get from this wine in other vintages. I wanted to try it again but the bottle was empty.
Excellent wine. The nose has nice peach ntoes and the petroleum is starting to set in. This seems a little lighter than the 2005 in some ways, and the rich flavors are a little more subtle. However, there is still excellent apricot and citrus flavor along with wonderful acidity. The finish is clean with lingering fruit and a slight dusty flavor. The finish didn't last quite as long as I expected, but it's still very nice.
Very nice. Sweet nose with bountiful peach, fig, and botrytis. Thick, juicy body with a bit of a mineral edge to it. Nice acidity balances the sweet peach fuzz, pineapple, mango, and almond. Very enjoyable and probably will be even better 10 years down the road. I will be on the lookout for more.
