A bit closed upon opening. Would recommend a two hour decant. Dark berries on the nose with cedar and saddle leather that continue on the palate. Smooth sweet tannins lead to a long dusty finish. Drink Now-2025.
Wonderful wine with good time left. COS65 notes are spot on. This has a savory quality too it, with smoked wood, bay leaf, anise, dark blue and black fruits and wonderful tannins on a long finish. No fruit bomb here.
Liquor like nose of oak and red licorice that needs to blow off with decanting. Afterwards, its well balanced, elegant, with a long, drying red fruit finish. Has the structure to age very nicely for another 3 to 5 years. But....this quite nice right now. I like the power of the tannins right where they are and would sip and smack like Joe Pecci in "gone finishing".
A very good Cabernet, pleasant, and smooth with a good mouthfeel. This 07 is soft and has a more feminine profile with modest fruit. My opinion is basically the same as previous notes. Decant and enjoy as this wine is drinking nicely right now. I score this wine a conservative 90.5+ Even better on day 2.
California Wine Fair - Toronto, ON (Fairmont Royal York): The nose brings some nice complexity yet I'm still hesitant whether I love the style. Regardless it is quite high quality. Nose of plastic, smoked meat, powdered candy, old wood, and brown spice. Palate enters on sweet fruit but finishes on very savoury notes. Medium plus finish. Should age well.
A balanced, elegant and smooth cabernet. Earthy, Rutherford dust, musk leather and modest dark fruit. This is a lovely, medium bodied cabernet that is drinking very well right now, and I believe for some time to come. This is a solid 91 points and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Tasting this alongside the 2004 martha's made it difficult to fully appreciate this old world style cab - earth, pine, dark fruit, tobacco, black pepper, creme de cassis, ripe tannins, medium plus structure. this was very nice - give this at least 4 more years. 91+
Enjoyed this wine with a large group at a private tasting. Our consensus rating was 92 for this wine. Double decanted and left in open bottle for a additional hour before serving. Tasted in a flight with 09 Hewitt and 2010 Forman. Both of these had a bigger mouth feel ad finish. Heitz was a more classical flavor graceful. More women liked the Heitz and the men preferred the Hewitt.
Medium bodied with restrained substance and elegance. Bright red fruit, oak, chocolate, earthy elements of ‘Rutherford Dust’ funk (not in a bad way), black olives, smooth integrated tannins. A pleasant and smooth wine with a good mouthfeel. Decant and enjoy, this wine is drinking nicely right now. I score this wine a conservative 90.4+ and a liberal 91.4 A very good Cabernet. Even better on day 2.
Tasted at Vintages Napa Valley Rocks seminar. Nose was closed off for some reason. But it was a rich, chewy mouthful with prominent sweet red fruit and a fair bit of oak. Good acidity, and dusty, drying tannins on the finish. A solid bottle, but not as interesting as others we tasted, including the Heitz Martha's.
Medium-high aromatics with oak and barnyard leading the way, underlying black fruits. It's full-bodied with a plush mouthfeel and mouth-watering acids. Complex earthy flavours on the palate, along with spice, licorice, eucalypt, and hints of raisin. Velvety tannins. Long, earthy finish.
This was the biggest oak bomb of all the cabs from Heitz, but the big red fruit made up for that, with earthen soils and gravel, cedar from the oak and a touch of plumb and figgy pudding. This has big tannins, but somehow the are manageable. The 2007 was the most polished with the least noticeable heat. I think Plumpjack may be a better choice for the $80 price tag, but this is a pretty nice single vineyard. This is the only non organic of their vineyards. Long drying tannin finish with some residual fruit. Classic old style cab.
Very nice wine. Right away picked up a lot of cinnamon, clove, Christmas cake aspect, as well as red licorice, ripe cherries - bit of dark fruit on the strong and quite rich finish. A fairly big wine, great structure and texture all around. Very tasty cabernet.
Nice richness on the front, bit of camphor and bark. Not so fruit driven but more exotically flavored. Good tannin structure and can easily age for several more years. This is a nice wine in a more classic style that bucks the trend of new world wine making.
Bigger, more structured, more energetic than the '05, this is proving what I've heard about 07 napa. Hasn't even entered that phase where it opens up a bit before shutting down. Oak much less noticeable than normal with this label, which I'm taking to mean that there is more wine in the wine, so to speak.
