Did a tasting of two 2011 Morgon. Daniel Bouland Corcelette and Jean-Paul Thévenet V.V. Similar. Tight. Dark berry. Heavier flavors, lacked the bright rich fruit of other recent bottles (e.g. the Foillard Côte du Py, which was terrific). Not crazy about either. The Thévenet had funkier nose. Smoky wooded notes then more barnyard.

Earthy funk and red fruit on the nose. Sour cherry on the mid-weight palate. Long finish. I dare say Burgundian. Drinking beautifully. Wish I bought more!!!

Pop and pour. Soft on the palate in terms of tannin but there is ample acidity to balance the juicy and slightly tart fruit. There was also a sappy quality to the fruit and some mineral notes to add depth. This is drinking really well right now.

Severe, concentrated, good bitters, firm body, elements you don't expect tasting a beaujolais. wait at least another three years and you will become rewarded (potential: 92/93 points). My friend Frans de Beer combined this beast with a perfectly prepared quail and it went very well.

Tight and brooding, with dark fruit, leather, and a little spice wrapped in a sheath of tannin. It became markedly less surly with air, but could still use time.

P 'n p. Fresh and pretty aromas of red fruit, flowers, earth, and fleeting hints of sappy green plants. Similar on the palate, delicate and pretty, with excellent acidity. Tart red fruit, hibiscus, a touch of sap, and underlying rocky, mineral earth. Light but discernible tannins. With air, some mouthwatering salinity develops. Light bodied, juicy, highly drinkable, good stuff.

A Lighter Session (Extra Space): Maybe I was too generous with the points previously or this bottle just didn't perform as well as my previous experience with it. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of perfumed flowers, bright red fruit (raspberries, red cherries), and light oak. Youthful. On the palate, high acidity, low alcohol, low tannins, medium- body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, floral essences, and sweet earth. Medium finish. Very bright and refreshing mouth-feel. Very good quality. Can drink now, but has he potential to age well over the next few years. Made biodynamically from two parcels of vines, one 45 years old and the other 110 years old (planted before World War I).

Gulp-able Beaujolais. This bottle had some of the funk on the nose, but the palate was clean. A slight sweet note to start and finish makes this alluring and difficult to stop drinking. 12.5% ABV

E&R's 4th Annual Beaujolais Weekend; 11/22/2013-11/23/2013 (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Soft aromas with nice spice and meaty, sulfurous notion. The palate is very exuberant on entry. Almost like cherry soda. Really yummy with mild structure. Awesome eruption of acid on the really pleasing finish. Really nice lingering presence with lots of structure.

Young and silky, minerally and fresh, bright red cherry fruit, granite and white flowers, violets, orange zest; medium weight, energetic, elegant, good tannic grip, very pure and natural, hints of red meat and spices, racy acidity, good length, slightly estery. Delicious young Morgon, wonderful now, years ahead.

Opened yesterday. Surprising deep purple. Slightly peppery, black cherry nose. Well constituted, serious dark red fruit and a bit of herb. This seems very close in both quality and style to the 2010. Well done.

Weekly tasting group #048; Beaujolais (@ CvR): Bouquet with some barnyard, medicine, flowers and raspberry. Friendly on the palate; ripe cherries, supple tannin. Slightly alcoholic in the finish.

The push towards elegant/light wines - The start of a new direction in our wine journey? (Amara Sanctuary Resort): Light soft nose with hints of wood and sweet earth. Good fresh sweet entry on the palate, with flavours of red cherries, floral essences, and mild citrus fruit. Sweet earth note resonates from nose to palate and start to medium finish. Great quality Beaujolais. Could develop over the next 3-4 years.
