  • Single piece cork, no sign of seepage, minimal saturation.
Slight cloudiness at the bottom of the bottle.

This is the wine that i tasted with my then girlfriend, now wife, on our first date.
I purchased a few of these on the night and tucked them away wondering what the future would hold.

Fast forward almost 8 years later.
We just made our first house purchase offer and cracked this one just a few days ago.
The wine has aged splendidly, just as i suspected. The impression of slight sweetness gets more convincing as the wine warms to room temperature. We've noticed this more on later vintages. The savoury, floral dichotomy in this wine still captivates me and i stand by my chance meetings of both this wine and my now wife.

I have a slight preference for the Radikon Oslavje with a decade of age. Both are quite compelling wines.

    Happy days
Drink up, or hold short term. Limited upside anticipated.

  • This being my first Slatnik, I really don't know how to rate it - but it was enjoyable. It looks like beer in the glass but it's distinct, somewhat funky on the first notes but then has a fruity and tropical finish that lingers and is very much wine. This was enjoyed as a 10 year old bottle - unsure what a younger version would be like or what 'over the hill' is for this bottling but it is certainly a wine geek's wine at the very least, and an enjoyable beverage for the rest of us.

  • watermelon, cantaloupe, and the rinds on opening. Herbal undertones with a meatiness. maybe prosciutto and melon?! slight tannic grip, med+ acid. great balance. med+ intensity. wow, very fun and serious wine.

  • World Cup Final (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): Was really into this wine. Some marmalade, orange rind, minerals, and floral notes. Lots of zippy acidity on the finish that kept this really fresh and engaging.

  • Getting Wine Geeky for the World Cup Final (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: Just like a few months ago, the nose is extremely intriguing and savory with marmalade, red apples, spiced pears, oranges, some bruised peaches, and a touch of funk.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with high acidity and some tannins as well. The structure is very noticeable with marmalade, red apples, oranges, bruised peaches and some wild spices.

Overall: Yet again this is a very intriguing and savory wine. This is spot on for the style and scratches the geek side in a big way.

  • Thanks to Lars for bringing this unusual and fascinating wine. Gorgeous, luminous orange hue. On the palate, all sorts of navel orange rind, faint marmalade adding thickness to the palate, and some chromatic tones of noisette and cashew. A real pleasure for after dinner sipping.

    Encépagement: 80% Chardonnay, 20% Tocai
Élevage: 3 weeks of skin maceration. Aged in barrel one year, then bottled and released.

  • I absolutely love this wine. It is perfect, and if I could only drink one wine for the rest of my life, in 2014, I am of the opinion this would be it. I can't even describe it beyond the perfect blend of savoury and fruitiness.

    Well done, amazing wine.

  • Nose: Very pungent and introspective with red apples, vinegary notes, citrus, spiced pears, herbs, and funky tones. The nose favors the savory side as it draws you in with excellent depth.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with high acidity and some noticeable tannins too. The acidity is certainly on the high side and slightly volatile with red apples, citrus, vinegar notes, herbs, and a touch of funk on the back end.

Overall: This is a gorgeous and savory wine. It certainly hits the wine geek quotient and it isn't for everyone. But, for those that enjoy this style, this hits all the right spots.

  • another interesting wine from Radikon. Not surprisingly, there is elevated volatile acidity here, but it's not quite enough to bother me, and I'm fairly sensitive. Aromas include very ripe pear, savory spices, lots of steely minerality, apple cider, lemonade, and a hint of barnyard funk. It smells somewhat like a sour beer. Flavor is more of the same, but a bit more vinous in that it doesn't taste like a sour beer. Tannins are noticeable but well integrated. Overall, this is a very interesting wine, but I far prefer the Pinot Grigio from the same line. I wonder if Chardonnay is just not aromatic enough to shine when made in this style. only good quality, but very good nerd factor.

  • Peach Farm. Pretty interesting. Definitely would have called it red if tasted blind, with a tobacco component. I liked it, others less enthusiastic.

  • Rootstock (Sydney, Australia): Cherry and stems with some orange peel on the nose. Palate is nicely balanced with good tangy acidity. Good length and plenty of character.
