Classic Chianti + - Eminently likable and completely satisfying with some bucatini all'amatriciana - earth, fruit and structure for days. God bless la conca d'oro!

Blind tasted. Nose showed dried cherry, dried raspberry, forest floor, black cherry, mushroom. Palette same with medium plus body, medium tannins, med plus acidity. Considered Cote de Nuits, but tannins were too high and it has a clearly Italian feel. Correctly guessed Sangiovese. Wine is blended with 10% Cannialo and 10% Cabernet.

Good, not very good; nicely acidic, crisp; matched with food better than the super-Tuscan, Dogajolo, we compared it to; purchased on sale, at full price this would not be a good deal.

No problems. Cherry flavors but no herb or forest on nose. OK acidity. No green or stem notes. Shortish finish. No flaws or issues but not a standout. QPR is only OK. Still OK fir daily rotation.

Ruby appearance. Unlike past vintages the 2009 is mellow, thin, and a touch green. There are notes of cherries, black plums, and licorice, with touches of cola and chocolate, but it feels diluted and disjointed. Serviceable at best, it tastes more like a vino de tavola.

Nothing too special about this Chianti. Decent fruit and flavor but I would not seek it out. It is a perfectly passable bottle of red with pasta or pizza, but there are many others that are significantly better in the same price range.

i really like this bottle at this price point. not terribly complex, but nice fruit and mineral mix. went very well with homemade spaghetti and meatballs. this is a good standby.

13 pabv., bottled by Banfi SaSrl, Montalcino, Italy. Importer Banfi Vineyards, Old Brookville, NY. $19/750 ml.
Cork finished; teary when tasted from Riedel Chianti. Deeper, duskier for type than usual; brick with purple overlay.
Upon opening and immediate double-decant: A cherry/plum juice nose and mouthful, with a full blast of tannin. Very popular with the Vestry Dinner crowd at Trinity, Troy, OH--went throught 2 bottles.
At 72 hours: Plum and dried sweet-sour cherry, mineralic, with bakeshop aromas.
Full in texture, well extracted, sour cherry and slight matchstick minerality; supple tannins and cherry/European oak notes on finish, but not at all overdone. Great with the strong cheeses I brought along, especially the fine Reggiano. I'd drink it now for the fruit, but the minerality gives promise for another 3 to 5 years. Drink now-2017.

This medium garnet wine was Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours. The nose shows moderately intense aromas of cherry, balsamic and earth. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, light supple tannins and well-integrated alcohol (which is listed as 13%). The flavors mirror the nose, although the dirt/earth component steps to the forefront. The middle palate is lacking and the short-to-medium finish lacks intensity. This wine was certainly "serviceable" when served with pasta Bolognese, but in no way will it be memorable. Drink now-12/15.

A little too thin and almost watered down taste. Nose was good, but palate and body lacked in this bottle.

An acceptable table wine, but nothing to write home about. Could get the same for fewer pennies.

Not balanced; too savory; reticent fruit and acid; lacking punch and pizzazz; ameliorated with food, but wouldn't buy again.

Perfectly acceptable chianti that tastes of the terroir. Real wine, though without any particular distinction.

Chianti Classico tasting- the black rooster crows at the dawn of a new age (Allerton Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: Nice and balanced nose with tones of licorice, herbs, cherries, and spice tones.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and silky tannins. There is nice balance to the tones of dark red fruits, herbs, cherries, and spice tones.
Overall: This is lacking depth that I would expect from a riserva. It's a nice enough wine and has good balance on both the nose and palate.

Riserva is slightly darker than the regular Classico. This is a good but somewhat uni-dimensional Chianti Classico.
