Rich ripe apricot, sweet peaches, and caramel . It is dense and sweet but slightly balanced with good acidity..overall quite dense structure. Probably still quite young to consume, offering long ageing potential ahead. In 1993 the 33 hectare estate was bought by a Spanish consortium headed by owner of Vega Sicilia.
https://www.bowlerwine.com/producer/oremus “The vineyards at Oremus are mostly on hillsides that rise steeply above the village of Tolcsva in the heart of the Tokaj-Hegyalja appellation. They are close enough to the Bodrog River to benefit from the particular climatic conditions that generate noble rot. All the Oremus vineyards are classified ‘First Growth’, according to the historic Szirmay classification of 1803. The cellars themselves are found under the village Tolcsva, in a labyrinth of hand-hewn cellars dating back to the 12th century.”

Vin tranquille blanc de couleur or orangé clair.

Nose: Clean nose with a pronounced intensity. This wine is developed.
Hugely aromatic wine. Dried Apricot and Orange at the fore with honey, vanilla and marmalade blending to create a real ensemble. Very pleasant and complex.
Palate: Sweet Alcohol: Medium Acidity: High Body: Medium+ Intensity: Pronounced Finish: Long finish
On the palate this wine opens up even further, expressing toffee and caramel on top of the dried Apricot, Orange and even banana. Honey and baked fruits compliment to create a wine with real beauty and a long, long finish.
Outstanding quality. Despite being fully developed you could potentially age this wine, although I couldn't say whether it would improve it. Definitely ready to be drunk now. Premium priced Hungarian Tokaji.

Another bottle to celebrate International Sweet Wine Day.... The nose was focused on orange, apricot, lemon rind and stone aromas with a hint of honey. Sharp, tannic, acidic and mineral driven, there was a distinctive sweet, tart and stony note, along with the citrus fruits in the finishand quite a bit of acid, that some tasters are going to like much more than others. I think I'm in the others group.

Nydelig! 94p

Vega Sicilia Tasting (Wine World, Seattle, WA): Great nose: Honey, apricot, nuts. Rich and dense, with more honey and apricot on the palate. Great acidity, almost mouthwatering, with a very clean finish.

Napa Valley Tour; 4/11/2014-4/15/2014 (French Laundry,Meadowood,Colgin,Araujo,Harlan....): Tasted single blind as part of a challenge/game with the sommelier at the FL. Quite a lot of depth here that led us believe this was Sauternes from a light year. Good, elegant and balanced, good ripe fruits, light botrytis and overall a solid desert wine. We should have gotten this one right! 91

The 2005 Oremus Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos is dark orange gold in colour with a nose of pronounced marmalade, dried orange peels, dried apricots and nectarine. On the palate, the wine enters with flavours of marmalade before progressing to dried fruit notes. Very pleasant and pleasurable and marks a perfect of every meal indeed. There's a good acidity that gives the wine a fresh finish instead of a lingering sweetness that might be too mouth coating. Nice medium (+) finish. High quality 5 puttonyos indeed.

Expressive nose quite in your face with wet wool, oa and dried apricots. Lifted leading to a rich and ripe palate that is well balanced however by bright acidity. Residual sugars are 150 g per lt while finish is long with caramel undertones.

Try as hard as we might we still did not manage to make it through 1.5 liters of this Tokaji.
Smokin' acidity right now but the sweetness carries it. A very clean style. I'd hold off drinking for a decade.
