Fresh and vivacious Sangiovese based blend with 5% Canaiolo & 5% Colorino, aged for 2 years in Slavonian & FR oak barrels. Medium pale ruby garnet. Intense complex aroma of roses, cherries, tobacco, char, tar, spices, black tea, tree bark, medicinal hints. Medium body, bright and vibrant with slender elegant structure and concentrated fruity flavours tobacco hints with mild dustiness. Tannins are high, so is the acidity, still feels too wild and vibrant, will try to wait till 2030 before opening next bottle.

Classic profile, with cherry, cranberry, orange, cinnamon, and fresh herbs. Extraordinarily intense and well proportioned. Lots of fruit, but balanced by excellent acidity and silky tannins. Long, moreish, and interesting, with real "personality". Should not have opened a single bottle until now, and yet this is, regretfully, my last one of a full case... Drink now - 2034.

double-decanted to travel, penultimate bottle from a case that has provided absolute pleasure throughout; great aromatics, elegant & expressive as always, with the tangy red candy acids that have always defined it; so sangiovese & so enjoyable.
not entirely sure why I bought it, but have a 3.0 litre also; I think that will be extra fun in 2 - 3, or more years.

Tasted along with a 2010 Le Boncie Le Trame Chianti. Did not take detailed notes while tasting but I recall this being light in color (ruby), elegant and quite floral. No sign of heavy oak. Delicious.

I was wrong. My note in late 2018 said it was past prime and it clearly was not. Very nice aged sango, almost crossing over to secondary flavors, but still retaining fruit and acidity. Not particularly light as I had mentioned in 2018 note.
Who knew that 8 years after vintage was too soon but 10 years put it in a sweet spot? How could I have known this unless I had deep knowledge of producer's performance in an excellent vintage? Glad to be wrong.

High quality cherries dominates the nose. Gravel road, herbs such as salvia, black tea, worn leather, liquorice. Needs air and delivers far more perfume after 2 hours compared to when opened. The palate is thinner and more about structure, sandy and drying tannins. Good acidity. Powerful structure which overpowers the fruit. My guess this is a bottle that underperformed, seems very uncharacteristic if it starts to fade already, especially in such a good vintage.

I'm sure you can find a Sangiovese out there "worth" more Parker points. But I'm not sure you can find one this lovely, this transparent, this ethereal, this pure or this seductive. Drinking this, only my good manners stopped me from getting up from my seat at the dinner table to perform a war dance.

Sinuoso frutto perfettamente maturo ma non cotto; bocca slanciata, di medio corpo, sorretta da un'acidità viva e vibrante (è sangiovese); tannini finissimi che riempono il palato senza graffiare. Elegante e sussurrato, in perfetto stile Montevertine.

Delicious. Classic sangiovese, orange, flowers, hints of leather, and cherry. had it PnP on night one, got even better on night 2, and then was still good even after sitting corked in the fridge for a few days on night 5. hold or give this a good decant

I ought to drink more of this as it's a really elegant and Burgundian expression of Sangio. Bright and lifted aromatics with loads of sour red cherry, florals and sweet earth. Refined and silky on the palate. More bright red cherry and floral notes. Not the most complex or intense, but an effortless and tasty wine on it's own and with food.

Drank stand alone but this would have benefited with food. Not a Super Tuscan at all, as someone else alluded to...90% sangiovese, 5% canaiolo, 5% colorino.
Totally fine, lighter than I expected, probably should have drank a few years ago.

Dinner at Pizzeria Bebu (Chicago, IL): The nose here shows some beautiful red fruit, a touch of florals, and a fairly powerful hit of dried herbs. This is clean, but there's also a really lovely earthiness on the nose. The palate isn't the most complex, but there's a gentle softness here that makes this easy to drink. The acidity here gives this lift and maintains the freshness; the tannins are a little chalky.

This was a big surprise and quite a compliment to Montevertine's Le Pergola Torte! Luxurious and velvety after 1 hour decant. Strong, dominant Sangiovese with a rush of fruit on the mid palate. A great value for a terrific Super Tuscan.

Had at New Years-dinner and didn't take any notes so this one is solely from my memory.
Clear, pale intensity, ruby color.
A bit tight upon opening but some time and swirling in the glass really gets this wine going. Gorgeous nose with all classic Sangiovese markers one could wish for. Bright red cherry, black tea, dry gravel, sage, basil, violet, cypress tree and slight paint bucket.
Medium(+) body with high acidity and medium(+) tannins. Slender and silky mouthfeel with pronounced intensity of flavors. Sour cherry, cranberry, gravel dust, sage, black tea, violet, tobacco and dry soil. The acidity really breaks through on the long finish and the wine ends really refreshing and you just want another sip.
I often find great Sangiovese to be much alike great Nebbiolo but this one tastes more like really great Bourgogne. I prefer both "styles" but I'm going to stick my neck out and say that this may be the ultimate expression of Sangiovese/Chianti Classico.
Just like Gargantua said; this wine is just entering it's drinking phase and will go on for a really long time. A classic! Bought at a Enoteca in Greve for €25. Ridiculous QPR...

Great wine beginning it's joyous window. Sweet rich Italian red nose that gets to a minty place occasionally, some leather, tannins are present but feel like "Ceylan tea-level" bite--quite manageable. A wine that gets your heart moving a bit when you're in the mood for an Italian red on a blustery day. Has a long life ahead but is already giving a great deal of pleasure.

Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): This is a really, really nice example of sangiovese. Perhaps one of the best examples I've had in a while. Despite its youth, it's drinking beautifully now, with its accessibly pretty red fruit and dusty earth. There's a bit of licorice and other herbs on the palate as well, that add interest to it, but it's really the bright red fruit and pleasant acids that stand out for me in this bottle. I had originally bought a bottle to try, but now that I don't have to open mine, I plan on letting mine rest for a few years.

Had a small sample through Coravin. Same bottle as LILJA.
Clear, pale intensity, ruby color.
Youthful, muted nose with hints of the purest red berries, dried violets, orange peel and earth. I'm sure that the nose would've opened up if it got some aeration but we tasted it directly from the bottle.
It's on the palate where it really reveals it's high quality. Dry, high acid, medium bodied with medium(+), very silky, tannins. Smooth and seamless with high intensity of flavors. Long, fresh, silky finish.
A well respected wine blogger once described Montevertine as if Sangiovese was grown in Chambolle Musigny. I truly understand that now.

Not the most expressive nose. Absolutely fabulous on the palate though. Slender and light bodied with fresh, but round acidity. Very juicy, intense and with a long, dry finish.

Decanted for 5-6 hours. Pretty dark colours, beautiful appearance in the glass. Cherries, wet stones, gravel road and leather, stunning nose, very much what you expect and hope for in a Montevertine. Racing acidity in front of the gorgeous fruit, hint of stem and that gravel road again. Very solid wine, and very young, this will last and develop for a long time and I would recommend to wait atleast 4-5 years, if you can. Easier said than done...

The wine is aromatic, oaky with red fruits, tannic and medium bodied. Significant smoky flavor. Lack acidity to balance the wine. Overall it's a good wine for dinner, it has to be decanted for 1 hours before serving
Klar, dyp rød med mild kant. Parfymert nese med moreller, tyttebær, lakris og hint av roser. Sursøt og saftig frukt med mild sødme. Moderat intensitet, men godt munngrep. Spisset syre. Godt modnet frukt, med mild sødme. Tørr utgang med milde, lett tørrende tanniner med hint av bitterhet og lett pepper. God lengde.

PnP and drank over a couple hours. Drinking better than I hoped but still miles to go. This has wonderful balance with the purest of sangiovese flavors. This is much more interesting and more complex than most Chiantis. Already expansive with weightless power of expression. Young and still a couple ticks away from being really impressive. Just needs time to really rock. Unfortunately, with the price jump I only grabbed one at $50. Not the no brainer value it used to be at $35-$40 but, worth its $50 price tag. I may still grab a couple more to age out. Had a left over glass and 2 hours later, this is better still. Tannins have softened and the wine has fleshed out more. 92+ now.... So, probably a good idea to give this a decant.

Translucent ruby. A more serious wine than i anticipated, albeit on a medium-bodied and elegant frame. Decanted and followed for 3 hours, and i do agree with others that this probably needs 3-5 more years to really shine. Quite impressive despite its humbe price tag. Red cherry, spice, leather, dusty and gravelly on the nose. Sharp and pitched on the palate with savoury red fruited notes displying very pure radiant fruit, very classic and traditional sangiovese. Could have fooled me as a brunello
Decanted for 3 hours. The nose had some bright cranberries and cinnamon. It's a medium body wine. The palate was round and smooth but it did not have the depth and complexity. I do not think the wine is too young to drink now. It's actually in a good drinking window. 2 hours of decanting is optimal.

On some level probably too young! That said it is a great Tuscan wine with a splash each of Canaiolo and Colorino to bring additional regional character to the Sangiovese. Again, a hold more than a drink now!

Really good potential but only a 90-pointer for now as it's way too young. Super pure, long cherry flavors and great acid portends a long future, but for now it's a little closed. Try again in 3-5 years.

Good but too young for my taste. The fruit is a bit shut down and the overall impression almost austere. However, all the components seems to be in place and I'm sure it will drink well in a few years time (let's say from 2018) and last for considerably longer.

Decanted 2 hours and served rather cool. Classic Montevertine with blueberry fragrance, dusty aromas and high acidity which works well with food. Sweeter than I remembered Montevertine to be. Lovely now, presumably with a long future ahead.

2010 sure seems to be yet another lovely vintage at Montevertine. I have very little new to say about this wine. The red fruit (cranberries, red cassis) mix with discreet and delicate herbs, acidity is just perfect, tannins are ripe and helps keep the taste alive for a long time, a chalky minerality keeps your mouth fresh and wanting. Bottle is gone far too quick - again.

Herbs and mineral are on the fore tonight - sagebrush and black tea, soil and tobacco. Faint acetic volatility and big botti. Sour cherries, with a hint of strawberries. Very sangiovese, and quite stern. It's the palate that really captures us this time. So grippy! Slender body and bright acidity, densely knit tannins, athletic sinewy build, vigour and sustain. No make-up, only elegance. We'll have to wait a long time for development in this vintage. (92-93)

Compared to the 2011 Sesti, this cut from a different cloth. Deep ruby. Blacker fruit and anise. Denser, more brooding and tannic, not nearly as sweet and open right. Built for the cellar rather than early pleasure, but should be very good once it relaxes. Looking back at my one previous note, not much change over the past half year, not that this is a surprise given its formidable structure.

With its dusty red fruit profile, piercing acidity, and granular tannin, this is pretty much textbook Chianti, but reminds me why I don't buy Montevertine as often as I'd like, because it's textbook Chianti at twice the price of everyone else's textbook Chianti.
Family dinner with Le Francophile (Stockholm): It's not an easy task for a light-bodied cool-grown chianti to follow up on a powerful Serralunga barolo, but Montevertine does a good job at it. The nose is floral and fresh, with beautiful aromas of violets, tart red berries and earth. We get some understated versions of cherry cores, cranberries, redcurrants, black tea, dusty gravel and tree bark. On the palate it's pure and slender, with cool and focused red berry flavours, fresh red-currant acidity, light black-tea tannins, and a small but very precise bitter bite. The finish is transparent, pure and perfectly cleansing. As several times before, this wine conveys an almost burgundian impression. Imagine a chalky chambolle-musigny made with sangiovese in big barrels. Anyway, another great version of Montevertine. Still very young, this will go for decades.

Attack is more olive tapenade than the Pian del Ciampolo, leather, tar, milk chocolate, almost sweet lamb fat on finish. Opens into a very tasty tamarind, puckering acid wine that obviously needs time but is already soon devoured with food.

Just a quick Coravin taste.
Not the most expressive nose. Absolutely fabulous on the palate though. Slender and light bodied with fresh, but round acidity. Very juicy, intense and with a long, dry finish.
Really impressive!

God lengde.

Nice, but not as good as the 2011, which was as good as the 2004, which I really loved.

I keep thinking that it has more growth ahead of it in the bottle! Nice nice, but wait.

Note from memory. Two hour decant. Excellent. Medium bodied, perfectly balanced, poised and elegant. Aromas of flowers, cherry, cherry liquor and a bouquet of herbs. Had enough stuffing to match pappardelle with chicken liver... perfectly!

Ej besviken denna gång heller. Fruktigt, rent och läskande. Stor njutning. Perfekt något sval till en ost och charkbricka. (Oj vad priset gått upp sedan 2007...).
