Lovely wine. Fine sweetness, very fresh still, hints of sous bois, clean and focused. The fruit is New World, of course - as it should be. Plenty of time left here ... #Kandestederne

Opened around two hours before dinner. Red fruit on the nose. The palate was cherry, cranberry, cedar and some baked apple. The finish was moderate and smooth. Served alongside a platter of over roasted Mediterranean black bass.

Deep Crimson. Rich nose, black cherry, cassis, alcohol. Smooth, strong savory elements. Spice. Rich mouthfeel, slightly lacking sweet fruit balance but very good.

This one is better - definitely fully matured and no room for improvement but quite deep and complex and the colour only has a tint of brown. Overall quite nice but I wont buy a Te Muna Pinot any older than 6-7 years in the future - especially at auction where providence is unclear...

Really singing now! Fruit is ripe and sweet but not overly so. Acidity is the framework for the fruit and it lingers into a long finish. A nice spiciness kicks in just after the acidity. Nice voluptuous mouthfeel (glycerin?) that is still medium bodied.

some mature fruit but too much of a spritz acidity on the edge and a slightly confected bubblegum element to the fruit on the finish - I find many NZ Pinot's are like this, so maybe just not my cup of tea

Chilled in fridge for 1/2 hour then PnP. Bright clear crimson slightly orange at the rim. Spicy nose with oak and cinnamon notes undr pining Bing and sour cherry rhubarb and cranberry. Light weight with crunchy fruit skin tannins. Silky on the palate with bright Bing cherry and cranberry with a touch of cinnamon earth and tobacco. Refreshing acidity on a lingering minerally finish. At its peak glad I did not wait any longer. Delicious with grilled salmon marinated with soy, rice vinegar, ginger, scallions and sesame oil.

Floral, and wild berry notes on the nose, with some darker green notes and a wisp of volatility. Mellow tannins mingle with ripe fruit and mineral tones on the palate with a hot and slightly acidic finish pulling attention from the smoother fruit notes on the fore-palate. Not likely to improve much in the coming years, this is a drink now through 2015 wine.

Looking back at my previous note I would say this bottle was a slight improvement but a distinct thin acidity on the finish - looking at other reviews it would seem that this style of NZ Pinot is not my cup of tea

Decidedly low tone Pinot fruit, with a streak of red rhubarby brightness, bordering on redcurrant. This is fresh, nervy, structured and very expressive. Never descending into bland earthiness, this is very fine, with real personality and some remaining potential. Among the ranks of the very best NZ Pinot Noir.

Consistent with previous notes but was more integrated. Lovely tension between the big red fruit and that refreshing acidity that Craggy Range does amazingly well. Will wait a year to finish my last bottle.

This is an example of the lighter style of NZ Pinot - all cherry cola and slightly thin but with the acidity in check. I prefer the more full-bodied style of Fromm or Felton Road but this wine would score a little higher if not for the poor QPR - at this price I can buy village Cote D'or of a significantly better quality

Medium transparent, vibrant colour. Clean nose if cherries, beetroot, earth & smokiness. Not as exuberant as Burgundy pinot noir. Medium to high alcohol, medium length, well made wine, a bit high on price vs its quality.

A nice new world Pinot from NZ. Not particularly my style--no one will ever think this baby's from anywhere in France--but still a very nice wine. Big, racy and fruity and chewy, with lots of cherries on the nose and palatte. A nice expression of NZ pinot

Lovely deep garnet. Tons of black fruits, also warm spices. Plenty of rasp and cranberry notes also. Some smoked meats and smoked beetroot too. Lovely smooth tannins but real structure. Good length. Not just a primary fruit fest by any means. Fairly big wine but carries it well. Good length and clean finish.

Yet again another blah blah blah New Zealand Pinot Noir. I like Craggy Range in general as a producer, but I just find Pinot Noir from this part of the world horribly predictable. It is a decent enough wine, but blah blah sweet fruit blah blah low tannins, blah blah cherries. I really would not want to find myself in a tasting room of 150 New Zealand Pinot Noirs - they just seem to all be veering towards such a bland uniformity that they are becoming a caricature of themselves. This was okay in a "well, it is slightly better than a lot of stuff from New Zealand" kind of way. Yawn.

(14.5%) A single vineyard Pinot hailing from the North Island near Wellington. Bright & clear ruby-ish red in the glass to clearer at the edges with a nose of cranberry, currant and violet. This one is pure and vibrant with rich, focused fruit from the get go. From there you get some subdued earthy undercurrent and a nice touch of pepper spice with a dollop of well managed oak on a lengthy finish. While not necessarily complex but if you like pure, bright fruit this is your wine. Newer world in style and perfectly made. If the above sounds up your alley and ~$35 bones is in your price range you should check this one out.

Took forever to open up, but eventually blossomed into a solid NZ pinot for the money ($25 at Costco). In my opinion, though, the citrus notes clashed with the minty notes, so it wasn't my favorite NZ pinot of all time. The abundant cherry helped break up the fight, though.

Very nice. This is the second time I have given a highly rated pinot from NZ that I found at Costco a shot. This is the second time it has gone very well. If pinots of this caliber are routinely coming out of NZ sign me up. I found this to be considerably cheaper ($32.00) than many of the OR pinots that I like (price escalation in good pinot from OR has been a major pain in the past decade to the point where good 20-30 $$$ bottles of OR pinot are hard to find) and really feel that the balance on this wine is excellent. Great fruit, great acidity, and a surprisingly long finish. I'll definitely grab a few more of these if costco doesnt sell out before I get back.

Strawberry, lingonberry, raspberry and some more strawberry, with a hint of oak on the nose. Dry with awesome acid and a loong fruity aftertaste that matches the nose, however taste better than it smells. Will last for 3-5 years (no probs!) and will most likely become a bit more complex. Now it is all about fruit and oak, very nice all the same!

I am still looking for a bit more from this wine and have come to accept that I probably won't find it. I tend to favor the Central Otago NZ Pinot's and keep looking for more complexity than I am finding in this bottle. Don't get me wrong, nothing really lacking here and well made, but I was expecting a bit more earth and exotic quality. Some nice dark cherries and elements of spice but was looking for more as stated.

Ruby color with lighter rim. Nose: strawberry reduction and redcurrant with damp pine forest, orange peel, clove, and a little white chocolate. Medium body on the palate: intense core of strawberry and redcurrant with damp pine, candied orange peel, and a touch of potpourri spice. Vibrant, juicy orange-laced acidity. Lighter fine-grain tannins. Lingering orange peel, potpourri spice, and a nudge of caramelized oak on the moderate/long finish. Very expressive and refined.

Big sign at Costco saying someone had rated this as 94 and a friend who is quite knowledgeable about wine gave it a strong recommendation, but I was not that impressed. A nice bottle, but had a bit a harshness that I could not identify. A bit more of a restrained nose than I anticipated from a NZ pinot, mainly red berries and a bit of cherry. The body was medium to lighter in nature and I picked up some spiciness and initial tartness to the fruit. Seemed to mellow out a bit but seemed one-dimensional and had a fairly moderate finish. Not sure it will improve much more but still not a bad bottle. Good QPR and nice overall balance.

Great bottle and much better in comparison to the 06 of the same wine we opened a few weeks ago. Medium length finish. Pretty good value for $29.

Big fan of Craggy Range in general, but this was missing something. It was a little too simple. Had some fruit up front, a little bit of spice, but then nothing. Tasty just not memorable. Had the Gimblett Gravels merlot from this winery last week and it was delicious.

Interesting pinot - tight, with sharply delineated features. Nose is reticent, with red fruit and not much else. Fills the mouth with sharp red fruit - slightly underipe strawberries, raspberries - tangy/tart/sour with a mineral undertone that runs runs right through to the somewhat short finish. Needs a year or two to mellow the tart edge into balance. It will drink fine then - could become country squire elegant, could be just above average.

Nice. Red cherry and some stawberry on nose. Some earthy, mushroom notes. Sweet but fresh fruit on palate. Alcohol (14.5%) not too out of balance. A little bit cordial like - but this was helped by a slightly cooler serving temperature than first glass. Overall, silky, sweet and enjoyable.

drink nicely over the next 5 years or so. Wine Spectator Grand Tasting -Las
Vegas.

Decanter new world Pinot noir masterclass (Landmark hotel London): Dark and deep purple colour. Dark cherry and a little vanilla nose. Good mouthfeel, quite deep and complex, dark cherry fruit although a little light on the attack, good acidity and nice length

Decanted for an hour. Very light colour. Cherries and pronounced smoke on the nose. Full body with very smooth and integrated tannins and the right level of acidity. Slightly sweet finish. A little bit short. Overall very good but I feel it could do with a few more years.

Purchased at Costco Santa Rosa for $29.95. Very nice berry accents and delicious fruit. Great balance. Worth repeating.

Two vinturi passes. Deep ruby with moderate legs. Spices and cherries on the nose. Blackberries and black cherries on the palate with a touch of anise and earth on the finish. Quite a fine showing.

Popped and poured. For about an hour, it had an off taste of petrol and sea funk. Eventually, it settled down. Tart cranberries with lots of acid. I plan to wait before opening another.

PnP. Dark for pinot but not suspiciously so. Nice big earthy flavours with red fruits and a bit of earthiness. Really nice stuff.
