Red, beginning brownish in rim, precipitate, high intensity. Developed, medium intensity, nuanced nose. Spicy with black pepper, dark fruit and some meaty notes. Dry, medium(+) acidity, medium(+), medium(+) body, 12,5%. Fruitiness and all aromas found in nose. Add some charcuterie and juniper. Velvet tannins. Very good length with juniper smoked sausage. Perfect, just as a Graillot should be!

Totally in the zone now after an hour’s decant - the “right” maturity level for me, for this wine, to get the secondary softness and kinder tannins, some fruit coming to the forefront, and still get a touch of the brine the wine exhibited in earlier years.

Dark fruit notes, black olives, meat, violets, and iron on the super classic Northern Rhône nose. Medium-high tannins with more dark fruit and berries, as well as savory herbs on the palate. Nice finish. Quite young still, but drinking well. Lovely wine! 92-93

Deep opaque red to the rim. A: very strong game, peppered jerky, olive, and ash. F: iron, blood, graphite, red plum and cherry in a smoldering fire. This is at once deep and concentrated yet not weighty. The tannins are present but integrated. Everything is hitting on all cylinders here. Go for it and crack one open. And bring it by if you’re in the neighborhood!

Wonderful nose typical for cool climate syrah. Creamy blueberries, black pepper and loads of bacon. A little bit thin and tight in the mouth, at least compared to what was expected from the nose. Don’t drink that much from Graillot, should probably do it more often.

Dark plums, cherries on the nose. The palate is all black olives on the attack, transitioning to a velvety cherry cake, before a slightly acid finish balanced by very fine tannins. A very refined drink with only 13% alcohol that simply invites good, simple food.

This wine provokes mixed reactions. Some of us think this is too much barnyard, and a "cooked" feeling, while I view this as a wine with personality. Compared to my note some years ago this is so much better now. The acidity is not dominating, rather balancing the ripening fruit, providing a good backbone.

Retailer tasting (@ O in H): Dark fruits, leather and minerals in the bouquet. On the palate the same impressions, cassis, a lot of acidity and sticky tannin. A mouth full. Note extremely refined, but a few years of ageing will do the wine good. Around 2018+? 87 - 88?

Big smoky, stemsy lift to the aroma. You get some menthol and tar with air. It is dense and chewy but quite compact and linear. Fresh berry fruits are nicely tempered by the wine's savoury elements. The finish is dry and chewy. Terrific with a spicy, slow cooked lamb dish.

Haskell Vineyards Tasting Session (Haskell Vineyards): (Tasted Blind): Mid to deep garnet colour the nose presents black pepper, tobacco, cigarette ash and wood smoke. A chalky texture on entry, but the fruit appears slightly compromised (bruised), suggesting oxidation. There is also a stemmy carbonic element which help but I found a mousy undertones. Short finish with nutty notes.

Popped and poured and consumed over two days. Perhaps this is closing up or entering an awkward phase. More tannin and acid than my last bottle earlier this year. Still showing bacon fat and smokiness but not as much fruit and harmony. Maybe it's time to forget about for a while.

Popped and let sit in the glass for around 30 minutes with occasional swirling. Quintessential french syrah in the best possible way. Bacon fat, smoked blackberries, maybe a little whole cluster-ness. Maybe a hair tight but the porkiness, dark fruit, and tannin formed an excellent balance that heightened with each 30 minutes of time. Glad I have one more bottle. 92pts.

Really lovely Crozes-Hermitage. Very dark purple with a nose of black raspberry, black currant, lavender, white pepper, hints of olive. The palate is beautifully balanced with lovely depth and nice acidity to keep it fresh. Definitely one of the better wines I've had from Crozes-Hermitage. For the price, a good value Northern Rhone Syrah.

Bad. Not cellarable. I would have been more cautious with this verdict, but this is now the second consecutive wine from this producer I had that is clearly past its prime, and prematurely so. The first one was a 2008, which I thought was cooked. But this one is from my own cellar, the 2nd of 3. The first one (consumed April 2013) was ok, a bit heavy-handed, but clearly Crozes-Hermitage syrah. This one tasted like the 2008, and it is from my own cellar. No more Alain Graillot for me. I have a third bottle, good for cooking wine.

Day 1: initially marked by oak and very high acidity. Mineral and fruit. A youngster that needs air. Can't believe bad notes for this wine... Consistancy as always remain a major importance for a vineyard like that, ok the season could play his game and change very much the grapes, but i did enjoy a LOT this wine.

Organic. Nice, complex nose. The 100% stems show up in the palate. As it stands, this is not really drinkable, as it's just too green and stemmy. Will surely be worth more in the future. 87-90.

Blind, I would have sworn this was a Chinon. Dark, deep purple. Lots of barnyard on the nose, some cab-franc-y green notes and lots of acid. Highly tannic. I opened this way too early, and will put my remaining bottle away for a few years.

Beautiful deep purple. Appealing violet florality of Syrah. Medium weight, raspy feel due to prominent cranberry acidity. Is this acid adjusted? At any rate, better scents than flavors as it seems overbalanced to acidity.
Dark red colour with purple. Nose with blackberries, some liquroice, slightly flowery with violets, cloves, some animal notes including meat juices, and something that feels a bit like iron filings. Rather typical Northern Rhône Syrah nose. Medium bodied, dark berries with tart berry notes, good acidity, medium tannins, some tannic bite in the aftertaste. Rather young, but drinks rather well now, 86 p.

The 2011 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage is medium purple in colour with a slightly savoury nose of black currants and slight rosemary. On the palate, tannins are rather smooth with underlying dirty wet soil, dark chocolate; and black Chinese tea (Oolong tea) is quite evident on the mid to end palate. The palate finishes on rather distinct black currants with a slight acidity.
Pleasant and easy drinking but over time, the wine gains more dirt and barnyard flavours and the acidity also begins to broaden, particularly towards the finish.

Good Croze Hermitage from Graillot once again. It is more approachable than other vintage at this stage, but still a lot of material, nice olive/fruit , animal and round broad palate. Will be better with some time, but not a crime to check it out.

Blind tasting. Nose aggressiv with animal notes, leather, jammy blackberries, and ink. An obvious french syrrah. Mouth less fine and more rustic, big toccabo, huge tannins, menthol, unripe blueberries. Still a good wine but lacking finesse at this stage. Keep in cellar or try with a fatty sauce dish.

Terrific! Less pepper on the nose than I remember from the 2010, but a nice leather/animal note to go along with fruit and olive. Very lively palate. Approachable and fruity, but with some nice rustic tannins on the finish. Very enjoyable.

Good Croze Hermitage from Graillot once again. It is more approachable than other vintage at this stage, but still a lot of material, nice olive/fruit , animal and round broad palate. Will be better with some time, but not a crime to check it out.

belle couleur intense, violette, poivre et cassis au nez, belle syrah … en bouche des tanins polis , une matière fine et fraiche, avec juste ce qu il faut de pusisance . tres bon vin gourmand

2/26/2013 - dead puddle Does not like this wine:
Blind tasting. Nose aggressiv with animal notes, leather, jammy blackberries, and ink. An obvious french syrrah. Mouth less fine and more rustic, big toccabo, huge tannins, menthol, unripe blueberries. Still a good wine but lacking finesse at this stage. Keep in cellar or try with a fatty sauce dish.

Artisans vignerons du Rhône (Lavinia, Paris, France): Vinifié en vendanges entières, voilà un Crozes dense, trop jeune pour être vraiment apprécié, concentration bien supérieure au domaine des Lises, une autre image du terroir.
