Nose: Spicy and very of-the-earth. Not earthy in the sense of funk or barnyard, but just very natural smelling. Fresh cut flowers and forest undergrowth, rain, cedar box, and chopped herbs. There's also a cragginess to it, like rocks and moss. It's difficult to describe this wine in concrete terms; it's mysterious, and I like it.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and incredibly supple. Like cool silk.
Palate: Exactly what the nose promises. Juicy and fresh, but savory too, with fascinating flavors of evergreen, tree sap, and juniper alongside tart cranberry and sour cherry fruit, a touch of floral bitterness like eating a rose petal, and a hint of pepper. And so pure. The finish is remarkable: the wine, which has a sappy presence while in the mouth, seems to vanish completely, leaving the palate clean and refreshed, with just a lingering taste of fruit and flower and the slightest brush of tannin.
This is fabulous wine, in my opinion. Distinctive, authentic, complex, refreshing, and just so expressive and pure. Seamless, too---from the first whiff to the finish, nothing trips you up. The value here is tremendous, as well, which is no small feat for Austrian wine. Bravo. I will be seeking out other Rosi Schuster wines very soon.

My first Austrian red. Pop and pour. A really intriguing wine. An interesting floral and earthy nose and hints of sweetness. The nose might cause you to mistake it for a classic burgundy with at least 10 years under its belt. On the palate a much more acidic profile with lots of interesting semi-ripe red fruit notes and some semi-funky forest soil. Only 12% alcohol, it makes for a great food wine, particularly for those with a jaded palate. If you like Ch. Musar, try this.
