Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL): From magnum. Surprisingly thinner than I would have expected at this point, this wine is dominated by its 2008 acidity and if I'm being totally honest, not much else. The magnum format has meant that this wine is aging at a slow pace, and this feels a little awkward at the moment, as much of the primary characteristics seem to have faded away, while the secondary characteristics have yet to develop.

Very simply, it's everything I want in a fine Champagne. Precisely focused, well-fruited, and equally well-lifted, with a range of flavors/aromas that speak to the mind, heart and soul - at once, and individually. Brilliant structure; understated gem. The profile of the aromas and flavors - citrus, mineral/stone, yellow and white fruits, seashell, etc., is my preferred melody (as opposed to brioche, butter, toffee, more brioche, etc.) Kudos to those that already have these, and many thanks to D & S for sharing. Great start to 2018; drink thru 2027. highly recommended+
PnP, enjoyed non-blind over 2 hours. Got better throughout the night; there's a lot of really stunning material here to do so.

Wine number four at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Beas River Country Club Boutique Mastery Champagne Dinner. Et voila, happiness finally arrived with this excellent bubble. Upon our first sniff, we (a) asked for a bigger glass and (b) cozied up to the staff to ensure generous pours ;-). Fairly dark yellow on the eye despite being relatively young. Toasty, nutty caramel on the nose with a hint of yeastiness sneaking up above the brekkie smells. Very, very pleasant. Fairly dry, a touch too acidic, but a luvly long finish that smoothed out very nicely. Fairly good QPR given the quality and anticipation this bubble will be offering happiness for another 10+ years...yummy.

Lovely 2008 class and complexity, with Hebrart's typical stylish balance. Characters of white flowers, and soft plummy pinot with gentle dark cherry overtones. This bottle showed mild bruised apple character, perhaps due to forward aging combined with Mareuil style, but the finish is lovely due to the Chouilly soft generosity and gentle crispness. The Mareuil old vine pinot noir is soft and rich, more welcoming than Ay power, and there is excellent length on the palate. A great wine for drinking pleasure, it has good potential for aging over 3 to 5 years.

Opened by M/M thelostverse who joined us for dinner to celebrate our eighth anniversary. This was a terrific bottle and drank much better than the Krug. Citrus, toasted vanilla, crème brûlée and apple. Wonderful creamy texture on the palate, with a fine bead and flavors of almond, apple, citrus, limestone and custard.

Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Disgorged December 3, 2012. This is crystalline and white. Mountain stream transparency, clarity, and linearity. The palate has an intense acidity that you get with tart fruits, and this has an absolutely phenomenal amount of focus.

Bottle 1 of 12. Lovely wine in a relatively un-complicated style, but still with lots of nerve and back-bone. Should last for a long time, but it's drinking really well now already. Richard Juhlin describes a characteristic and distinct element of apple-porridge often present on the nose; spot on! This to me is one of the best 'non acquired taste' bottles on the market. Quite simply delicious, and for some time now this Special Club-bottling has been one of our preferred champagnes, when it comes to sheer and simple drinking-pleasure. All the best from the 2006-version and them some. Excellent potential! (91-92 pts)

Opens with notes of almonds, green apple, citrus blossom and wet stone. There's an interesting vanilla custard thing going on as well. The coarse bead on softens across the midpalate lending a certain finesse to the wine. Almond, vanilla, pear and citrus with hints of ginger in the background. Has a short finish at the moment, but I anticipate that this will flesh out with some age. Too young now, hold this until 2018-2020.

Could not agree more with the last 3 notes on this Champagne. Terry Theise in his 2013 catalog says that this is the best young Champagne he tasted this yr. This wine is ethereal and along with being delicious is truly beautiful. To enjoy Champagne to the max it is always best to avoid the flute. If you need some vertical display of perlage then treat yourself to some Riedel vinum extreme Champagne glasses with a wide opening. Otherwise just drink em in a white Bordeaux glass. And yes decanting only adds to the expressiveness and you don't lose the bubbles if done gently.

Wow! This is probably my favorite bottle of champagne that I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Yellow citrus flavors of lemon and a bit of grapefruit predominate the palate with some almond notes to add complexity. Abundant fine beads provided a wonderful mouthfeel. Finish was moderately long with a bit of minerality. The wine had good depth but remained very light on its feet, a pleasure to drink.
Crazy good and will improve with age, but buy a bunch because it's delicious in its youth. Many, many thanks to Doug who graciously gifted me this bottle.
