Definitely past its considerable prime, but still some pleasure to be found. Any bright fruit is gone in 2022, but there's still some lively tartness underneath the older, dryer, savory aged characteristics.

Not going to score this wine. It was almost as if it had completely turned. I realize it's a 2011, but I've had other nine plus year old Sojourn pinots that were absolutely holding their own. We have three more bottles left in our cellar, so I will try another one soon to see how it is.
Candied cherries, earthy pine notes, hints of mushroom on the palate. Fairly long finish. Still drinking nicely. Medium fine tannins on the mid and back palate..

Wonderful Sonoma Pinot displaying the typical candied raspberries in a rich, full style with low and soft tannins and a rather mild acidity. There are some fresh cherry notes providing lift and freshness. All in all a very good drink in a somewhat beginner friendly style.

Earthy crunchy cherries and pomegranate. Excellent start. Some of the funk has blown off in the first 15 minutes, but I'm hoping it returns. Funk came and went for an hour plus. Delicious wine and a nice steak pairing.

Last bottle of this vintage and vineyard. These are consistently very good pinots, definite New World style, medium dark, with typical varietal aromas and flavors. Sweet berries, with some smoke and oak, some complexity. Mature, no significant tannin. Enjoy over the next couple of years. Ric

Opened and left to breathe in the bottle for an couple of hours. Fairly big for a Pinot with plenty of ripe fruit. Notes of dark cherry and baking spice. Added weight and evolved very nicely over the course of about 3 hours. Was drinking best at the end. Really nice wine that seems to have several more years left in its' drinking window.

Last of my 2011 from Sojourn, a real strong vintage from them. I enjoyed the Gap, Ridgetop, and the Sangicomo.
Still fairly dark garnet, no signs of bricking. Nose is ripe red fruit and baking spice. It's a flavorful wine, ripe strawberries and cherry with whittled sandalwood. Probably one of the riper wines from this vintage. Tiny tannins are still prevalent leading me to believe there's no rush to drink. This was fun.
Pop and pour, drank over 2 hours. Candied, big fruit, dark, quite deep. There is some nice minerality, but then it strays towards floozy Caly pinot. This is a "not my style but still better than average" 89.

Early on cola on the nose, that seemed to trail off later and was just the red fruit and some cooler forest notes. Tasted of cherry, plum, slight cola, and darker wood. Good balance and lingers well.

See 1/30/15 notes: spot on still. Big and full. "Classic" Cali pinot noir (if there is such a thing). So much flavor! Btw someone commented that it probably takes the taste 15-30 minutes to catch up to the bouquet. I agree. All I really should say is WOW!

Very dark, almost black amethyst color. Some cola and dark fruit on the nose. Both are also present on the palate. There is still some tannin and a pretty high alcohol "bite," but 2011 wasn't my favorite year for California Pinots.
While the alcohol is noted, it's not so overbearing that it interferes with the overall experience of the wine.

See my note of 6/18/2015: "raspberry, cherry, chocolate, herbs and sweet oak. Initially the nose comes across better than the flavors, but after about fifteen minutes the flavors catch up. In the mouth, rich and intense fruit. Decent structure. A medium finish. Drinking quite well now; the tannins seem fairly well resolved." This time though I didn't get much chocolate, but I did get some strawberry. Nice finish. Of course it paired well with baked salmon. Score 91-92.

a few years in the bottle did this wine some good. Still showing bright red fruit flavors; strawberry, cherry, but a bit more integrated now. Picked up a little bit of spice. Others have mentioned soft oak, I picked up a little cedar.

Medium garnet color, slightly cloudy. Cranberry, pomegranate, cherry, baking spices and a hint of sweet oak on the nose. Similar flavors on the palate with spicy red fruit dominating. Smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel. Good acidity. Very tasty and enjoyable pinot.

Juicy red cherries, raspberries, licorice along with black pepper, herbs and cocoa on the nose. The palate matches though the fruit is more pronounced than the other flavors. Medium acidity and light+ tannins. I'm writing my note on day three and this is drinking better today than the past two- that makes me think this will age well even if the structure isn't as full as what I'd normally expect would make a good aging wine.

Monthly Tasting Group: Blind Pinots Worldwide (The Dakota, Mpls, MN): Medium dark red to dark red color. Tasting pour, blind over an hour. Had this as Cali, Sonoma Coast, maybe RRV; very ripe, cola, cherry, earth, VERY ripe; big on the palate, cherry vanilla, rhubarb, cherry, full bodied, alcohol, slightly savory. This is another in a recent line of Sojourns that was underwhelming.

Pop and pour, then drank over three hours. Held back two glasses, one for day 2 and one for day 3. Overall a likeable wine that took some time to show its' best. I'd say slightly out of blance, though ony slightly - a good amount of grainy tannins were evidnet on the first day. The palate is strawberry and cotton-candy, a touch too fruity for me, though YMMV. Best on day 2 when the fruit calmed down a bit, still quite alive day 3. Perhaps a few years will elevate this, but the off-balance note remains a concern.

This was a surprisingly good bottle from the moment the cork was pulled - almost too drinkable. Perfect acidic balance allowed for pure palate of strawberry and flowers, with a little baking spice on the nose.

This is drinking so well right now, in a very natural way. It's a big, Cali Pinot, but it's doing that almost perfectly. Not Burgundian, and I think it never will be. Doesn't matter, because it simply tastes really good. WOW!

Fantastic. Earthy, slightly smoky, lots of fruit and savoury notes. A complete wine now with lots of texture and great balance. Dark cherry, raspberry, mineral/chalk, herbs, truffle, flowers, and Sonoma Coast earth. Drink it or wait to see what happens over the next few years. Could easily be a wine to open a bottle every year until you finish the case.

Ruby color; on the opaque side for a pinot noir but slight translucency. Pronounced and typical varietal aroma, with red fruits, smoke, nicely balanced oak. Burgundian-style nose. Full-bodied flavor, concentrated, very well balanced between fruit, tannin and acidity. Excellent rich fruit flavors which increased on the palate. Very long, smooth aftertaste. This, along with Walter Hansell North Slope, are probably our favorite American pinot noirs. I get much more nose, flavor, and complexity from this than from Kosta Browne, Martinelli, or Marcassin...and the 2012 should be even better! Ric

SO, SO GOOD! Maybe a touch hot, but that will lessen with age. And the Burgundian side will come forward. On the other hand, the Sangiacomo fruit is really tasty right now. A "Well Done!" to the folks at Sojourn.

Actually opened this by acident because Travis grabbed the wrong bottle (meant to open the Sonoma Coast). I thought it might be tight, however, after a hour and a half decant, this was singing. Cherry, cola, and a hint of earthy complexity on the nose. Medium weight, super smooth and great depth. Cherry, leather, and spice. The finish isn't heavy, but it is mouth coating with just a little bit of acidity at the end and the flavor lasts forever. I could drink this forever.

Wonderful. Sweet fruit forward nose, with classic Pinot notes. Black cherries, candied blueberries, strong mid palate with a lingering cedar and tobacco hint at the end. Big bang for the buck!!
Pop and pour and served without food. This is a crisp and light Pinot. Shows a bit of acidity along with raspberries and dried mint. There is a refreshing appeal to this wine.

2013 Family Winemakers of CA, San Diego Tasting: Don't see the PR 96 score here. In the nice category but missing something for me. Cherry, strawberry, somewhat restrained. Very similar in style to Gap's Crown imho. Guessing this will improve and develop more complexity.

Falltacular 2013 (FMIII in the OC): Color seems to be slightly lighter than the previous vintage but I quickly realized with such small pours and the lighting made it difficult to really assess accurately. The aromas of this wine were terrific with a mixture of lightly candied and dried fruits with toast. Palate is tart strawberry and nimble mouthfeel. The finish was graceful but slightly clipped. This was my favorite Sojourn PN, top 5 for the tasting, and glad I purchased again this year

Notes from Pasadena PinotFest: Earthy, red fruit, mineral and pine needle aromas. Bright and rich on the palate showing forward black cherry and earthy mineral complexity. Boldly styled but impressive in the way it keeps a light balance. Fine polished feel and a full finish. Nicely done.

Sangiacomo is just a half step below the Gap's Crown. A little spice to start. Drinkable on P 'n 'P. Usually wine takes a while to open up. This was drinking very well to start. This was a smooth and silky wine. After 2 hours, the wine got richer. A little heat at this time, but it disappeared. Can't wait to see the improvement in 2015.

nose of hibicus, rose pedal, dark cherry, and black tea. the deepest and richest pinot in the group. also the silkiest. medium body. good acid keeps everything in balance. dark red fruits, minerals, and tea leaves carry out on the finish. along with the rest of the line up there is more elegance this vintage compared to '09 and '10. while i love the sonoma coast for its sheer value, this is my favorite among the svds.

SO, SO GOOD! Maybe a touch hot, but that will lessen with age. And the Burgundian side will come forward. On the other hand, the Sangiacomo fruit is really tasty right now. A "Well Done!" to the folks at Sojourn.

Medium ruby in color. Nose of cherry, strawberry and earth. Flavors of cherry, strawberry, cola, mushroom and forest floor. Very well balance with well integrated tannins. Longish finish. Very nice.

Burgundian earthiness meets California sunshine. Mushroom, forest floor, eucalyptus and cloves with ripe strawberry, cherry, and raspberry. Maybe a hint of cola on the palate. Great balance. Smooth, light tannins. Nice finish.

Decanted 60 minutes. Very nicely made wine. Raspberry and cranberry notes over slight minerality. Medium weight that took on complexity in the glass. Much better than our last bottle 10 months ago.

Much brighter than I remember it from our spring trip to Sonoma. Really a lovely wine! Wish I had more!

Powerful, cranberries and sweet red berries, nice acid, mild but present tannin. I didn't spend much time analyzing. Too easy to just enjoy. Awesome.

So good, perfect color, great nose of earth and ripe strawcherries. Very good acidity and balance with tastes of strawberries, minerals and river stone.

Black cherry, strawberry, and a bit of earth. Never had a bad Sojourn pinot.

Decanted 30 minutes. Very nice ruby color. Bright red fruit in the nose. Berries and cranberries dominate the mouth. Nice acidity and brightness to the wine. Needs time.

A bit tight on day one (3 days after delivery). Glorious on day 2. Why these are not more popular I cannot explain.

Burgundian nose. Typical Sangiacomo flavor profile with typical good acid but atypically weaker fruit. Tasty but not big. The best of a bad crop.
