On fire with a gorgeous classically Burgundy nose of mature dried cherry, cooked mushrooms, and spice. Elegant with terrific length and balance. Perfectly at peak. Exceptional value.

Fine mahogany browning red. Loads of dark fruits, earth and fungus. Some Asian spices. Cured meats. Great acidity. Savoury. Fine though not rich. Complexity and countryside.

Loaded. Intense aromatics of sandalwood, florals, tea and leather are also reflected on the palate after an hour decant. Give this air, it gains weight. Plenty of room to run.

Best bottle yet from the case I bought long ago. Guess I drank most of it too young! Lovely spicy and earth nose, but no funk. Color is fairly light and brick red. Still has ample acidity but it has softened a lot. Good length. Nice mature fruit. So many of the 96 burgundies have such hard edges, as this wine did, but it appears they are finally softening. And it ONLY took 17 years! An excellent food wine!

Subtle but amazingly complex brambly red fruit nose. As you'd expect from Bize, this is a beautifully restrained and taut wine. Sharp acidity, and a stern but approachable structure make this a serious wine for serious food.

A little dull when just opened, it blossomed with air. Elegant and rustic at the same time, stemmy with fresh strawberry and cherry. Plenty of energy, high acidity with a slightly smoky finish. A touch of oak that disappear with air.

Popped and poured. Good cork, slightly browned. Nose has a little stink going on. On the palate, light to medium body and tannins, and a bracing, sour acidity that dominates the flavor. Some aged notes and nice secondaries. Definitelty a food wine. Tasty but challenging with the sourness.

This wine is showing it's age. Rather surprisingly so given the vintage and producer. Was purchase at auction so perhaps it was not well store. The said it is still good. The fruit has faded some and the wine is somewhat soft, but good complexity with lots of secondary flavors.

Weekend Pinot - Brewer Clifton, Mortet, Bize: The nose on this is just brilliant, all ripe red summer fruit with some fantastic Burgundian stink - truffles, poo and earth. Can't get enough of that pong! The palate doesn't quite deliver; its a little lacking in the fruit department that advertised itself so brazenly in my nostrils, and the acidity compresses the whole taste experience. I think it just needs a little more time, and hope the acidity will fade by next year because if the palate ever lives up to what the perfume promises this will be great stuff. Wth Bize's track record I'm optimistic.

Lacking the fruit of earlier bottles, this one is all secondary and kind of a caramel note.

The wine is good, but the wine is old and not getting better. As it opened up, it quickly washed out on the pallet.
