  • Earthly, light cherry notes. Generally pretty light / delicate, no strong profiles

  • This should get more subtle and suggestive with further cellar time but, courtesy the tough vintage, this has already entered its drinking plateau. Smooth, dense, and grippy texture, with the signature (to me) fresh orange liquor notes of mature NSG in general and Chevillon wines in particular. At once dense and delicate—perhaps a tad homogeneous for now, an impression which should dissipate with time—and a very long finish. 93-94

  • Hints of plum and 止咳糖浆。 light and elegant, not the best vintage.

  • Airy and precise perfumes of plums, blue and red pinot fruits and the chalky aroma typical of Premeaux. Lush, sweet flavors of plum in the mouth, given by the clay component, and a slight bitterness provided by ferrous oxyde in the Vaucrains soil. There is perfect grape maturity in 2011 for this wine, but in a lighter density, this is similar to the wine made in 2017. Very good mineral kick in the end with still slightly dry tannins, and good lenght. This is impressive for the vintage, and I like how Chevillon manages to do very well in cold years, it always outperforms.

After ten years of cellar time this wine can be drunk now, but it's still primary, and will develop in many years down the road. I've had the Chevillon Vaucrains 2000 recently- After 20 years in the cellar the wine was in athletic shape, so my guess for the 2011 is more complexity and finer in the years ahead.

  • 2011 Robert Chevillon Nuits - Saint - Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru 13.5%

Pale and gently evolved color. Rather sweet on the nose with hints of grenadine, amaro, rhubarb, underbrush along with small red berry fruit. Smooth, rich and fairly polished with rather intense and pure earthy, forest floor, and seashell laced pinot fruit that turns focused and mineral ont he moderately long finish. Very pleasant, weather elegant, but still a bit tight with beautiful, fine grained tannins lending support and hints of caramel and carob lending detail on the backend. 89

    2 hours in:

The fruit, slightly stewy yet fresh cherry, has come a bit to the fore, with added definition to the quinine, dried herb, anf sweet spice notes. Rather relaxed in the mouth with attractive freshness, crisp little tannins, good acidic balance, and a decent finish. This is lovely tonight but only the finish shows hints of 1er cru quality. With some emerging length and a bit of richness. Gains a touch of marshmallow sweetness on the finale along with fine red berry fruit. Pleasant but unassuming. 88pts

4 hours in: The aromatic complexity here has shown some marked improvement, slightly exotic floral notes of jasmine and iris have added complexity along with a hint of dried powdered ginger. The palate is showing more grip and better focus now as well with a hint of mushroom emerging on the backend with a longer and more structured finish. Definitely gained a gear over the evening. 90

    24 hours later:

Perhaps a tough more intense today with lovely aromas of quinine, underbrush, vitamins, and wild red berried fruits. There’s a layer of fat, almost sweetness here that was missing yesterday and all the structural element are better defined, particularly the acidity which is very juicy today. It’s a lovely wine, fresher today than yesterday though shorter as well. Very pleasant. 88pts

  • Ruby red colour with a slight bricking on the edge.
The nose is dominated initially by strawberries with a touch of forest floor and autumnal leaves. The aromas evolved in a more floral way with predominantly rose petals.
The palate is juicy with red fruit - both red cherries and strawberries, suave tannins and dry extract. Medium bodied. This is in a good place now.

  • Encouraged by recent CT notes, we decided to open this. Darker translucent ruby color. Nose of billowing floral notes, acrid damp cellar, fresh berry, plum pits, earth. Layers of raspberry, pulpy iodine, craggy fine dirt, and a hint of creaminess on the honed palate. Freshening acidity and firm, structured tannin. Longer finish of earth, dark berry, granite, and grip. Surprisingly accessible, this wine is setting a very fine standard already.

  • P&P’ed and decided it didn’t need extra air. Intense nose shows its midlife status, combining notes of decay (sous bois, dried prune) and vividness (orange peel, tobacco leaves). Lots of actions on the palate with a seductive round sweetness, red fruit acidity and soothing ripe tannins. Medium long finish. Although the “Les Vaucrains” 1C is said to be the “male” counterpart to the more feminine “Les Cailles”, with age this wine definitely starts to reveal its softer, seductive side.

  • This wine has gotten better since the last time I had it. Enjoyed it but wished it had more earthiness.

  • Slightly earthy with dark fruit. Really well made wine but not sure it matches the price point.

  • On the nose, it starts off with candied fruit, brown sugar, raspberries, stewed fruit, before gradually giving way to some violets, cinnamon, clove, and baking spice. On the palate, very juicy, with lots of red cherries, raspberries, stewed fruit, wild strawberries, red fruits, candied fruit almost like eating dessert, with its elegant sweetness. Good mid palate and very fruit forward.

  • Good burgundy but not special in any way. Lots of cherry flavors and missing earthiness.

  • Opened three days ago then left in the cellar in the open bottle. Attractive deep dark ruby color with some big legs. Excellent black cherry and minerals in the nose. Rich mouthful. Smooth texture, big ripe black fruit, and tremendous grip. Excellent read burgundy, and quite a value. 5-12-17-9: 93/100.

  • Raspberry, blackberry, cherry; medium bodied, good presence, some minerality, good sustained length; certainly not penetrating or profound but quite good

  • Confirming my tasting note from 3 years ago. Very elegant and complete wine with red fruit, musk. Well done for this vintage.

  • My third bottle of this over the last year and all three have been highly satisfying, on a par with a minor grand cru. It's open and generous, the fruit is sweet and substantial (I don't notice marked greenness) but balanced by fine tannins and acid, the smell complex with leather, pepper, black fruits, forest floor.

  • Rocky notes providing needed minerality to the typical Chevillon fruit and soil tones. 90+

  • Fresh clean and herbal, spicy leaner leaning fruit, but a bit of a chemical / cleaner type element that added to some leanness. Refreshing in many ways, but definitely not a marquee vintage.

  • Dark ruby. Fine complex nose of earth, black cherries, tobacco, violets. Smooth deep core of fruit on the palate, firm acidic grip with gentle tannins, long and precisely articulated evolving finish. Soul-satisfying wine of great power and elegance. 50 + 18 + 18 + 9.

  • Bright red fruit, cool earth tones. Clean but deep for such a young wine. Soft acids. More minerality here than I recall from a previous bottle. A long life ahead of this one. A great success for the vintage for Chevillon 92+

  • Red cherry, red plum with hints of black raspberry. Notes of decaying leaves and earth. Light tannic grip at present with rather firm acids on the backpalate. A rather tense wine in its current state. Lots of good raw material here, although to my palate not overly enjoyable at this young age. This is one to bury in the back of the cellar and come back to much later. Will check in on progress periodically. Paired with wild sockeye. 92+

  • A beautiful example. Fresh and linear red berry, mineralogy, slightly savoury and pure finish

  • Tasting at a friend’s home. Medium-light garnet. Expressive nose of red berries, sweet spices with some minerals and earth, quite open and forthcoming. On the palate medium-light bodied with excellent fruit, freshness and soft tannins. This is a beautiful, elegant Pinot. Can be consumed now but will certainly improve.

  • Tasted at private wine tasting. Opened 1 hour before tasting. Medium-light garnet color. Surprisingly open nose of sweet red cherries, strawberries, cinnamon, stony minerality and some white pepper. Similar notes on palate. It's medium+ bodied with medium-high fresh acidity and medium+ tannin that is very silky. Very long finish. A great showing for Les Vaucrains which is usually a little less approachable when young. I love the freshness and finesse here.

  • MASTER BORGOGNA AIS; 10/15/2013-6/28/2014 (HOTEL WESTIN PALACE MILANO): Vigne molto vecchie ( tra il 1898 e il 1934)
    30% legno nuovo. 100% diraspato.
In bocca è molto secco, mineralissimo, pietroso e asciugante. C' è poco frutto, vino austero, longevo e molto particolare.
Bel finale amarognolo di the rosso.
    piaciuto assai!!

  • Rich, floral aromas of red currant and rose petal. Suave and richly mouth-filling on the palate with excellent body and structure. Flavors of strawberry jam and wood spice with hints of flowers and stone. Ripe, juicy tannins appear on the lengthy finish. Tannins may mellow in the relatively short term but I expect this wine will continue to develop for many years in the cellar.

  • Really young and tight. Lots of red fruit and extract. 3 hrs in a decanter let this unfurl a little but in reality this needs 10 years. Not showing the texture or depth of Vaucrains at this point but I think time will help.

  • Nuits St. Georges-Mostly Chevillon and Mugnier (Beltramo's, Menlo Park): Perfumed blue and red fruit. Berryish quality, slightly fuller than the Cailles but more penetrating acidity and great impact on the palate. Smooth, round, generous and long. Rich, sappy, serious black fruit and excellent punch at the end. Lots of buried tannin. A complete young wine with tremendous potential.

  • Color: Dark and concentrated for a pinot, but still see-through.

Nose: At first very tight but opens up after a couple of hours decanting. Classic pinot-spice, cherries, lingonberries, cranberries, leather and hint of cinnamon on the back end.

Palate: Slender, powerful and restrained. Packed with dark fruit, high acidity, smooth and nice tannins. Some green notes on the finish but fresh cherries and herbs are the dominating aromas. Relatively long finish.

Very powerful bourgogne that will develop very nicely. The score is based on what the wine did perform this day.

  • 2011 Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Deepest, darkest color of the line up. Brooding, sweaty nose, very different from any of the other wines. Black and blue fruits, a minimal bit of green, much less than the Cailles. Roundest, most concentrated wine of the bunch but not the least bit chunky or overextracted. Excellent acidity, round tannins. A big boy but not fearsome. This has great potential, and I feel it is much more of a sure thing than the Cailles.
